The Secret Garden has been a beloved classic since it was first published in 1911. This charming story is retold for beginning readers with full-color illustrations throughout.
I appreciate this rendition of this classic story at a more digestible reading level and language. I remember trying to read this original novel in elementary school and felt defeated as I tried to understand the language and vocabulary used. If wanting to introduce classics at a lower level, I recommend this novel or styles of this type of novel.
A nice abridged version of The Secret Garden great for young readers. The illustrations are just lovely! So glad this classic story is being made accessible to children of all reading levels!
The secret garden is a tale of a young, spoiled, sickly girl who, through a series of unfortunate events, loses her family and way of life, to be shipped off to live with her maternal uncle whom she has never met. The uncle has a similar personality, and has been heart broken ever since his wife passed away. Mary Lennox, the little girl, is encouraged to play outside, but also to stay away from one of the locked gardens. As the story unfolds, Mary finds herself healing from her ailments, more pleasant to be around, and helps unfold a relationship between the sickly boy in the yard, and her once miserable uncle.
The secret garden is a fantasy book in that it uses extraordinary worlds.
This book is more of a fun read, and while I don't know what subject it could be integrated in to, I would read this to my class in the morning/afternoon for a fun read.
