This book is a highly detailed, comprehensive narrative of the Eighth Air Force's Mission 376 of May 28, 1944, when over 1,000 B-17's and B-24's, along with hundreds of escort fighters, bombed a number of targets, mainly synthetic oil refineries, deep in Germany. It was also the first attempt to glide bomb a target, in this case, the marshalling yards in Cologne, which turned out to be a dismal failure, despite no aircraft losses.
Excellent resource for students of the Strategic Bombing Campaign in WWII. The author describes in detail the preparation and execution of several bombing missions of the Eighth Air Force from the view of both bomber crews and escorting fighter pilots. He includes much first person descriptions of the events of the day by participants in the air and on the ground.
