ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I was born and raised in Russia (former Soviet Union), and had lived half of my life there, until I moved to United States 20 years ago, following the love of my life, my one and only. Reading was always my passion, especially science fiction, fantasy, and related genres. I grew up spending hours and hours in a public library, reading amazing novels created by Asimov and Bradbury, King and Tolkien, Verne and Stephenson, or any other Si-Fi book I could get my hands on. I was writing stories in my head, inspired by those great books. I was adding my own characters and coming up with their new adventures. Of course, most of those stories had a girl hero, a main character that I loved to associate myself with; and of course, all the stories had some romance added to them as well. Even though I was always strong in math and later in computer science, and picked those subjects as my career, I kept holding on to all the ideas in my head. Years later I found courage to transition those stories from my thoughts onto the paper. "The Queen of Nordern" is my first attempt at creating an entertaining novel. I really hope that the adventures of my heroine will capture readers as much as they captured my own interest.

The protagonist of the story is Alissa. Her friends, Tina and Mary are way more outgoing than she is. They loved good parties and all-night fun. Alissa, on the other hand, preferred the gym or a good book to a loud club. They became friends at college and stayed that way after graduating months ago despite their different interests. And both Tina and Mary kept trying to pull Alissa out of her shell and make her join them at some club, and occasionally they succeeded.
The story started with them visiting a club where someone tried to kidnap Alissa. The person was searching for a runaway princess and he was tasked to locate the fugitive and deliver her to her royal family.
Is Alissa really a princess? Will he be able to kidnap her and deliver her to her royal family?
To know the answers, you must read this superb book.

The plot of the book is well-crafted and it will keep the readers engaged throughout. The writing style of the author is engrossing and straightforward. The flow of the book is smooth and hence it gives a perfect balance to the readers.

The way the author narrates the story is outstandingly well. Also she has done an excellent job in portraying and maintaining the individuality of all characters. According to me, this book is a complete package and I think everyone should read it at least once.

The book has all the interesting elements which will keep the readers hooked to it till they finish reading it. The language used is rich yet easy to understand. The cover page of the book is gorgeous and the title is absolutely perfect for the story.

Overall, it was a delight and utter pleasure to read. I highly recommend this book to everyone. You guys must go, give it a read without any further delay. I’m sure you’re gonna love this book.

“The good thing about living in the world full of magic is that it’s way easier to heal someone.”
Imagine going out for a night out with your girlfriends and the night ending with you finding that you are a literal princess.

The story started off so well. Alissa is an editor by profession and her two best friends work in the same publishing house as her, although in different departments. One night, her whole life is turned around. She is abducted twice and then she finds out that her whole life has been a lie and she is actually the princess of a fantasy land called Mirral.

There goes she, from being the editor of fantasy novels to becoming the main character of a fantasy world. She doesn’t take much time to mold herself into the new world. I love Alissa’s character. She is fierce, she is strong, and she knows what she wants. Truly inspirational.
I wasn’t a fan of Elgard, the male protagonist of the story, so much. This could be credited to the fact that there was not much backstory about him in the book. And I am not complaining. The story was supposed to be Alissa-centric and it was till the end. Nicely delivered.

I did not want to put this down at all. Filled with subtle sarcasm and slow burn, the storytelling had me. And this is exactly the level of fantasy I am comfortable reading. I am pumped to read the next installment of this series.

The queen of Nordern by Katrina Zari is the first book in Warriors of Mirral series which captured my attention from the very beginning. It's a very creative genre-bonding read tha features a wide range of relatable characters. They have their own fears, flaws and ofcourse strength. They have their own secrets and motives as well as a beautifully spinned relationship with each-other. The skillful description of events and craftful manipulation makes this book a page turner!

I really like the main character, the story took an unexpected turn when she got to know that she is from an another world and actually a princess from a Kingdom located in a different world called Mirral. The one she fell in love with came to bring her back to her Kingdom ,isn't It's sweet? I am in love with this fantasy series. Can't wait to read the next one!!

Holy ‘Gold Dragon’ as Alissa says! Scrolling on Facebook, I see Katrina’s post about this series of books and I’m captivated by not only sharing a name with the main character, but just a compelling synopsis; I just had to add to my Kindle app. Sometimes, I find some books hard to ‘get into’ but this book, I didn’t want to stop at the end of each chapter. I wanted to keep reading and see what would happen and if fate would finally bring Alissa and Elgard together. But Katrina kept me on my toes, pulling me further into the story, knowing but at the same time
not knowing what was going to happen. I could go on and say how this book captured the essence of romance and adventure but that would be a pretty long review. I end it by saying I look forward to reading the next, and any other works by the amazing Katrina Zari!

I Didn’t Think Fantasy Was Mine—Until Nordern Let Me In

The Queen of Nordern doesn’t perform for the reader—it waits, watchful and unadorned, until you’re ready to listen with your marrow.

Katrina Zari crafts a realm where silence has texture, loyalty bruises, and power is never ornamental. Queen Alissa is no archetype; she’s a living contradiction—tender and tactical, ceremonial and feral. Her judgment arrives like a frost bloom on glass—silent, intricate, and irreversible.

And then there’s Gallion.

I adored him—his songs, his antics, his irreverent grace. He’s the kind of character who feels like he’s always just left the room, leaving behind laughter, longing, and a half-finished verse. Zari doesn’t treat him as comic relief or sidekick—he’s a pulse in the story, a reminder that rebellion can wear velvet and grief can rhyme. I felt him in my chest, like a memory I hadn’t made yet.

Zari’s language is tactile. You can feel the chill of Nordern’s breath on your neck, the weight of its history pressing against the spine of every scene. The world isn’t built—it’s memorized, like a half-forgotten lullaby with teeth. Every ritual, every betrayal, every flicker of intimacy feels earned perfectly, imperfect.

What moved me most wasn’t the grandeur—it was the granular. The way grief is folded into gesture. The way resistance hums beneath silk. The way love, when it appears, refuses to be pretty.

I didn’t finish this book so much as emerge from it—altered, a little frostbitten, and strangely grateful.

Upon numerous fortuitous encounters, Alissa, a young lady, discovers her lineage ties to an alternate realm known as Mirral, where she holds the title of Princess in the Kingdom of Nordern. Distinguished by its divergence from Earth, Mirral harbors individuals endowed with magical abilities.

Concealed on Earth during her childhood, Alissa now faces the imperative to return to her rightful place. Elgard, the King's Hand, a distinguished and proficient warrior, has been dispatched to escort the princess back to Nordern, where she is destined to ascend as queen. As Alissa develops affections for Elgard, she accompanies him to Nordern.

In the kingdom, she undergoes rigorous training for her impending role as queen, yet an inherent sorrow prevails due to the insurmountable divide between her and Elgard. Their love remains unfulfilled, constrained by the distinctions in their social standings. If only destiny could intercede.

Overall, it is a compelling read, seamlessly blending modern elements with the fantastical realm. The narrative's fluidity, coupled with an enthralling plot, renders it difficult to set aside. The protagonist's youthful ambition adds a refreshing dynamic, heightening anticipation for the forthcoming sequel. I wholeheartedly recommend this literary work.

Book Review: The Queen of Nordern by Katrina Zari

Katrina Zari's The Queen of Nordern is an alluring fantasy novel that transports the readers into an enchanted world of Mirral. Follow Alissa, a youthful editor, who leads an ordinary life and finds herself kidnapped by a group of royalists bent on restoring her to the royalty she has lost. From an evening with friends, everything sours until it moves into a deadly adventure as she is pursued by those who want to restore her royal line.
Zari deftly balances action, romance, and self-discovery in a magical universe. Alissa makes for an endearing heroine: strong, unyielding, and surprisingly sympathetic as she struggles with the curveballs that her life has pitched her ever since she became established. Her transformation into a princess of Mirral is swift, but the array of emotional decisions she is faced with allows her to create a believable transition. Her romantic counterpart, although enigmatic and noble, has no fully elaborated backstory; the slow-burning romance however accelerates the interest.
The pacing is smooth, the world-building immersive, and the side characters stand out very well, putting meat to the story. Zari's writing is so compelling and engaging that it is impossible to resist for enthusiastic fans of fantasy. With themes of identity, destiny, and tiresome heroism, The Queen of Nordern really deserves a close read. Fans of fantasy and romance will await the next book in this promising series with baited breath. Highly recommend!

Katrina Zari’s The Queen of Nordern: Warriors of Mirral is a captivating blend of modern character introspection and high fantasy world-building. The story follows Alissa, an unassuming young woman whose life takes a dramatic turn from mundane routines to royal destiny. Zari cleverly subverts typical fantasy openings, grounding her protagonist in realism and quiet reflection before plunging her into a world full of political intrigue, ancient customs, and mythical creatures. The pacing is well-controlled, with early chapters establishing Alissa's character and relationships, gradually transitioning into the expansive realm of Mirral without losing emotional depth.

The world-building is immersive, with thoughtful attention given to the social structures, customs, and landscape of Mirral. From the lush royal chambers to the cold mountaintop trials, each setting feels vivid and integral to the narrative. Zari doesn't rely on heavy exposition; instead, the lore unfolds organically through dialogue, character memories, and subtle details. The inclusion of a royal contest and political pressure adds stakes to Alissa’s position as queen, while the magical elements—like dragons and ancient portals—are balanced with realism and restraint.

Alissa is a relatable protagonist whose development is both compelling and believable. Her reluctance to embrace the spotlight, contrasted with her growing sense of responsibility, adds emotional weight to her decisions. The supporting cast—especially the charming bard Gallion and the enigmatic warrior Elgard—bring personality and humor, preventing the tone from becoming overly serious. Dialogues are sharp, with occasional witty exchanges that give the narrative a modern flair within its fantasy setting.

Overall, The Queen of Nordern is a richly layered fantasy that successfully combines introspective character growth with epic adventure. Zari’s writing is fluid and engaging, and the story maintains a strong emotional core even amid fantastical developments. Fans of grounded fantasy heroines, royal intrigue, and dragons will find this a rewarding read and a promising

BOOK REVIEW-

Identifying with the main character, Alissa, came naturally, but anticipating the sudden and unexpected shift that thrust her into a remarkably unusual world proved to be a challenge.

Alissa discovers her true identity as a princess hailing from an alternate realm known as Mirral. She transcends the typical princess archetype; Alissa proves to be exceptionally courageous and resilient, eventually ascending to the role of Queen in not just one but two kingdoms.

Fearless and unyielding, she fearlessly embraces every challenge, including falling in love with the man sent to bring her back to her kingdom—an incredibly romantic twist. Together, they confront numerous dangers, emerging as an impeccable team, perfectly attuned to each other.

Immersed in enchanting locales and magical realms, I found myself right beside Alissa and her friends throughout the book. The book is fast paced and plot driven, it delivers high action, good humor, and engaging characters. The whole fantasy (Parallel) world was intriguing & new, which isn't easy to do these days, the author kept the world in ancient times, without technology and all. Author created a Kingdom in a parallel world along with its loyal people makes this book a relaxing read, without having to doubt their own kind.

The plotline is interesting and Original. It kept you wanting more with all its romances. Alissa is a normal girl or so she thinks thrown into a world that she didn't know existed until she was abducted by a man, who knows magic and rescued by another person who happened to fight well. She realizes nothing in her life is as it seems. Elgard, explains everything about his world and asked her to come with him as their kingdom needs a queen now. She doesn't know that she's the princess of Nordern. She is forced to learn about herself and a part of the world she never knew existed, when those secrets come out and you can no longer put the book down. The book was pretty action packed and addictive.

The characters are deep and complex, even the side characters had a lot of thought put into them. I like the characters very much especially the strong headed Alissa and Elgard, the hand. They are all strong yet fallible and very believable. Alissa capable of doing everything for herself and super strong without depending on anyone. She was just a real person who trains herself well. The dialogues were good, my opinion of the characters shifted throughout, and I couldn't put it down. The mystery is intriguing and the plot will keep you going. This book is great for all fantasy/adventure readers

The reader will be left begging for more at the end. All the characters are very likeable I've been totally into reading magical themed books lately. I really enjoyed this one. Plenty of angst, action, drama and witty remarks. Great story, but I felt that the plot was a little rushed and that there could've been more to it.

Katrina Zari’s The Queen of Nordern: Warriors of Mirral is an unexpectedly gripping tale that deftly subverts the conventions of the classic fantasy epic. The novel begins with a deceptively mundane tone, lulling the reader into a sense of ordinariness, only to unravel a saga replete with subterfuge, ancient legacies, and transformative destinies. Alissa, the protagonist, is portrayed not as a typical chosen-one caricature but as a quietly resilient woman gradually thrust into extraordinary circumstances. This makes her arc feel organic and genuinely compelling.

Zari excels in building dual settings—both the urban modernity of Alissa’s original world and the medieval mysticism of Mirral—with an eye for immersive detail. From enchanted fabrics to pragmatic fantasy plumbing, the worldbuilding is clever without being overwrought. The seamless integration of mundane comforts with magical elements creates a setting that is both fantastical and strangely plausible. The political tension, the veiled stakes of the royal contest, and the looming presence of dragons add to the narrative’s sense of inexorable escalation.

Characterization stands as a notable strength. Alissa is multidimensional, balancing vulnerability and fortitude in equal measure. Supporting characters such as the charming Gallion, the enigmatic Elgard, and the inscrutable King bring levity, wisdom, and gravitas respectively. Their interactions feel authentic, laced with subtle dynamics that elevate the story beyond mere plot-driven adventure. The emotional undercurrents never feel contrived, which is rare in fantasy of this scope.

In summation, The Queen of Nordern is a riveting initiation into a world that is equal parts whimsical and perilous. Zari's command of language and character renders the tale memorable and emotionally resonant. It is not only a story of queens and warriors but of identity, legacy, and quiet rebellion against fate. A must-read for fantasy connoisseurs craving depth and sincerity.

QUEEN OF NORDERN : WARRIORS OF MIRRAL
- Katrina Zari

Alissa
Elgard
#1 Warriors of Mirral

Okay let me be really frank here... I did not like the book that much initially BUT as I read more it grew on me.
And as you all know until recently I was not into fantasy romance it was like a bit off the track for me but then the story started to get Interesting and wow! it was so good that I ended up reading the whole series.

The Queen of Nordern is the first installment in the triology of Warriors of Mirral.

The story takes us on a journey of Alissa - a fantasy romance book editor who discovers the books she edits and the things she liked to read about are all going to be her life now. It takes us into the world of magic, dragons and kingdoms where mages exist and Alissa is none other than the long lost princess of the kingdom who was sent to her Earth to protect her from their enemy.

Alissa despite being unaware of the existence of Mirral grasps things pretty quickly and falls perfectly into her role of a princess and soon to be queen. She proves her self worthy of the heritage, lineage, title, position and power. She fights and protects her people with utmost sincerity but while also this also fall in love with the person who was sent to bring her back from Earth- her hand to the throne, her loyal servant and friend.

But will it be so easy for Alissa to get everything her heart desire??? Especially when her position demands to follow the rules strictly and the Queen to marry only the one with pure magical blood and a royal heir.

The book has a really good story plot which though lacked the execution here and there was not that bad. This one is a good pick for those wanting to explore the fantasy genre and like books with strong, independent FMC.
Stay tuned for the review of the next book in the series.

OMG! "The Queen of Nordern: Warriors of Mirral" by Katrina Zari is like the coolest book ever! I just couldn't put it down. It's all about this girl, Alissa, who finds out she's actually a princess from another world called Mirral. Imagine that happening to you! It's so awesome because she's not just any princess; she's super brave and strong and later becomes a Queen of TWO kingdoms. How cool is that? Alissa is my new favorite character. She's not scared of anything, and she even falls in love with the guy who comes to take her back to her kingdom. It's so romantic! They have to face lots of dangers together, but they're like the perfect team. I wish I could be as brave as her. The best part of the book is when Alissa says, "...she wanted that kind of true love that would make you go through ice and fire." I mean, WOW! That's the kind of love everyone dreams about, right? It made me think about all the fairy tales where the princess waits for her prince. But Alissa is different; she's out there fighting and standing up for herself and her kingdom. It's like she's a princess and a warrior at the same time. The book is full of cool places and magic, and I felt like I was right there with Alissa and her friends. They all have their own secrets and powers, which makes everything even more exciting. I can't wait to see what happens next in the series. I'm totally going to read the next one as soon as it comes out! If you love stories with adventure, magic, and super strong girls, then you have to read this book. It's not just a story; it's like going on an adventure with your new best friend who just happens to be a queen. Trust me, you'll love it!

I haven't read a book series in a very long time. Here I found the perfect fantasy series that I was searching for. This book serves as a beginning to the Warriors of Mirral series. This was a really enjoyable read for me! A fantastic fantasy book that's simple to become engrossed in.

When Alissa discovers she is a princess from a mysterious land, it changes her life, and this is how the narrative opens. This takes place in the ethereal world of Mirral, where Alissa's fate makes her the ruler of not one, but two kingdoms. As Alissa tries to balance her everyday existence with her exceptional lineage, the story digs deeply into questions of identity and belonging.

This one story has it all—politics, family drama, romance, and power. About halfway through, things start to pick up steam and become more and more tense. Then the gloves come off and we get one surprise after another. I was flipping the pages as quickly as I could because I never knew what would come in the next chapter. It is quite convincing. I found myself completely engrossed in Alissa's world even before the true drama begins in the latter chapters.

With a sharpness that keeps me on my toes, the writing is absolutely excellent. The dialogue was my favorite section; it's so sharp and witty that you want to read it aloud several times to really take it all in. This universe is seamlessly brought to the reader's attention via the smooth and fluid worldbuilding. There's no confusion or information dump because everything happens step by step. Plus, it's quite rewarding how all the little pieces ultimately come together.

A must-read for everyone who like fantasy. Can’t wait to read the next book!

'The Queen of Nordern' by Katrina Zari is an engrossing fantasy novel blending fantasy, romance and adventure. Set in the fictional world of Mirral, this is a modern fairytale transporting the readers to a world full of action and magic.

The story revolves around Alissa, a charming young woman who is leading a lonely life. As a fantasy series editor, Alissa has always preferred the world of kingdoms, princes and dragons. So she is surprised when a stranger, Elgard walks into her life claiming that she is a long lost princess from the world of Mirral. As Alissa discovers the truth and makes her way back to her kingdom, she discovers a world full of new responsibilities and challenges. Will Alissa able to live up to the challenges?

The story is a perfect blend of romance and fantasy. The story changes gears as Alissa moves to a new world and the story seamlessly brings to life a magical new world with warring kingdoms. The romance angle between Alissa and Elgard is nicely done and the attraction, romantic tension and the challenges to their romance are well narrated. The climax is a satisfying one and it will be interesting to read the other stories set in this realm.

The characters are well crafted; from Alissa to Elgard and Excelsior, each character is well written. The narrative is fast-paced and the writing is excellent. The world building is top notch, bringing to life a whole new world full of magic and adventure.

This book is about Alissa, who is a young woman who discovers she is a princess from an enchanted realm, a revelation that significantly alters her existence. As she explores her authentic lineage in Mirral, a land where individuals possess remarkable abilities, she develops feelings for the one assigned to guide her return to her kingdom. However, despite her newly acquired powers and royal identity, Alissa realizes that her most profound aspirations continue to elude her.

Alissa, the central character, is a young woman who embodies relatability and determination, undergoing significant personal development as she adapts to her altered circumstances. Her romantic interest, a mysterious and devoted individual tasked with returning her to Mirral, introduces layers of complexity to their love story, enhancing the narrative through the progression of their relationship.

Their affection remains unachieved, limited by the disparities in their social statuses. The characters exhibit a richness and complexity that is commendable, with even the supporting roles being given thoughtful consideration. I found the determined Alissa and Elgard, the hand, particularly engaging. Each character possesses strength while also displaying vulnerabilities, which renders them profoundly credible and relatable.

I really enjoyed reading this book, each chapter is thrilling and engaging to get into the story and continue the reading process. Their story filled with full of love, struggles, social challenges and all but they never give up on each other because of these things. That’s really captured by attention. Overall it’s a nice one to read .

The novel is captivating and easy to read. Hard to put the book down once you start it. Would recommend it to everyone who likes fantasy fictionThe question is how can one tell that you're truly special and not just overly fussy and hard to please? There can be multiple signs. For example, you can be exceptionally good at martial arts. Or you can choose a job of a fantasy novel editor to make a living from, over all those more prestigious and considerably better-paid occupations such as a shop assistant or a cleaner.  I can assure you that no normal human being is capable of doing that and not losing their mind within a week tops, so yes, you must be special. Well, I'm not special and, as you might have guessed, I’m generally not into reading fantasy. When I was in my early teens, I read a book titled Lord of the Rings and, while peer pressure made me finish it, by the end I was feeling seriously exhausted by the insipid characters, predictable plot developments and continuous senseless battles between hobbits, gnomes and elfs. This novel does not degenerate into a war chronicle of an orc dynasty and the action scenes are moderate in quantity and well-scripted (as are the love-making scenes - do not expect wanton orgies involving magical creatures and frolicsome princesses in this one, I said there's only a TINGE of eroticism to be found here). It is evident that the author invested some effort into making at least the main characters interesting and life-like – for a fantasy novel.a must read one if u are a fantasy person.

Imagine discovering that everything you knew about your life was a lie and that you are a princess from a distant world called Mirral, where some people possess extraordinary powers. As you struggle to come to terms with this shocking revelation, you find yourself falling in love with the person sent to bring you back to your kingdom. Despite all the power you hold, the one thing you desire most remains just out of reach.

Katrina Zari's The Queen of Nordern: Warriors of Mirral is an action-packed and emotionally charged fantasy story that pulls you in from the very start. The fast-paced and dynamic characters immediately immerse you in the world of Mirral, while Zari’s vivid descriptions make you feel as though you're right alongside the protagonist, experiencing every twist and turn. The blend of sci-fi and fantasy elements keeps the story suspenseful and engaging, drawing readers into the hero's complex journey.

The central focal point of the story is the growing bond between the protagonist and the person sent to retrieve her. Their chemistry and teamwork, as they face dangerous challenges together, make the story truly stand out. The protagonist shines as a strong, independent woman, taking the earth-shattering news of her origins in stride and proving herself a powerful, determined hero. With its gripping twists, strong character development, and rich world-building, The Queen of Nordern, the first book in a three-part series, is a must-read for any fan of fantasy and sci-fi adventures.
