Two stories in this issue. The first is from the sixties and is another Flash story. This time the villain is Captain Cold. Ths is the story where Captain Cold decides he is love with Iris West, Flash's girlfriend in his civilian identity, and intends to marry her. A variation of this was used in an issue of Magnus Robot Fighter from Western Publishing/Gold Key. However, I am pretty sure this was the first usage of this particular plot-twist. The writers had previously portrayed Captain Cold as being a bit of a laides' man, so his infatuation with Iris actually made sense. Of course Captain Cold uses his cold gun in various ways to cause problems for The Flash. A good story overall. The second story dates from the forties and features Dr. Fate. This story comes from the period when Dr. Fate's mask now covered only half his face. he had also been powered down somewhat. I am not sure why this was done, simply that it was. Of course when they revived him in the sixties they went back to the full mask and not only restored his powers but might have even made him more powerful. The villain in this story goes by the name of Mr. Who, no relation to The Doctor. To get his powers he uses something call Solution X. There is no explanation if this is some sort of magical potion or a scientificly based one. I suspect the latter however. Either way he was able to give Dr. Fate a good tussle. I admit I am not as intrigued by this villain as I have been some others from the Golden Age. Still, we can't have a grand slam every at bat, can we. It may not have been a great story, but it was an enjoyable one. Altogether not a bad package. Happy reading
