Apex Academy Capers #1

Come Out & Prey (Cass' Version)

Rate this book
***This prequel must be read prior to book two, Let Us Prey to understand the world the characters live in. Being a teenager is bullshit. You’d think being an heir in one of most powerful families in predator society would make it easier, but you’d be dead wrong. From the moment I was old enough, my bloodthirsty parents made sure I understood my job is to smile, nod, and look pretty in public. None of my choices are my own, including my friends, my future, and even my hairstyle. The only sliver of happiness I cling to is my boyfriend, Todd, and attending Apex Academy where I’ll be free of the chains holding me down. Unfortunately, my life is a cosmic joke and everyone but me is laughing. The perfect prom night I envisioned ends in disaster and my entire world explodes in the blink of an eye. I didn’t emerge as a predator and now there’s hell to pay. My name is Delores Drew and I’ve got news for the friends and family who betrayed me when I turned out different than they expected. I’m no ordinary bunny.
If you're a fan of gripping tales like Zodiac Academy, Dark Blood Academy, Fortune Academy, Fate Hollow Academy, and Royals of Villain Academy, get ready to be captivated by Apex Academy Capers. Step into a world where danger lurks in every corner, and follow the journey of a brave bunny named Delores as she navigates the treacherous path among the elite.

This is a rewrite, but it’s so much more in-depth and filled out and yes it still has that goofy kind of humour but oh my goodness OMG I’m just in love with this book and the good girl who breaks free of her gilded cage & comes into her own bad ass female and yeah they all have their flaws, but they rise above it and true friends colour will be shown!!!!! Can’t wait to see her interact with the professors cause of course that is my favourite trope here with the supernatural age gap twists & all!!!!!
Nobel prize worthy no, but all the better I think as love this escapism!!!! Highly recommended!!!! Off to read the next in this series!!!!!

What to expect:
• NA Reverse-Harem
• Paranormal
• Shapeshifter Romance
• Mixed species Harem
• Academy setting
• Family Problems
• Rich girl
• Professor x Student
• Fast-burn // Insta-lust
• Has MM
• Age Gap

Trigger Warnings: domestic violence, abuse, bullying (outside of harem), violence

I’m left with mixed feelings 🙈

I quite enjoyed the setting, the MMCs, and their dynamic. The FMC is an interesting individual… however, I’m not sure I’m completely sold on it, hahah!

The writing style is not for me, it's a jumbled mess. I was already skipping pages at 12% that is definitely not good. It's so focused on people's sexuality I was patiently digging for a plot, instead I got a whole load of pointless yammering. There are multiple POVs all going off on a tangent. ... adding extra names and thoughts that don't seem to have anything to do with the plot.

Just not for me.

Cassandra Featherstone has gone full shifter in the revamp of her previously co-author series. Come Out & Prey is the first book in the Apex Academy Capers series is written just by Cass. This world is like ours but with a shifter twist. The predator/prey society, shifting, brand names, and designers all have a shifter angle but then T. Swift is mentioned as well as Batman and the Grammys. So it's familiar but unique all at the same time. This book was a wild and vicious ride.

Delores "Dee" doesn't fit into her high society world. She is kind, respectful, thoughtful, and caring while everyone else is cruel, self-serving, and power-hungry. Her parents are dangerous, cruelty is their favorite pastime and I wouldn't ever turn my back on either one of them. It's obvious that they are completely miserable so they turn that on Dee. Even her "friends" are like that. The only person she has blinders on is her boyfriend, Todd, who is just as bad as everyone else. No matter what they throw, Dee doesn't brake, she plays the game but it takes its toll.

This society is frecking brutal. The preds rule the world but they are so beyond corrupt, abuse of drugs and alcohol, constant threats, bullying, cage fights, planned murders, and so much more. It's completely horrible and the best the prey shifters can do is hope to survive just one day at a time. There is a council and a society but with the corrupt in power what good are both when they are corrupt as well. No don't get me wrong there are exceptions, some of the pred-shifters are good people but they are few and far. It seems like it's one big cycle from one generation to the next but I have a feeling that Delores is about to change the game.

The guy line-up. The cat shifters include Felix who is broody because he's made some poor relationship decisions. His twin Fitz is a brutal psycho and I love it. Chess is an utterly adorable artsy nerd. Aubrey is (old AF), a grumpy book dragon, no seriously he's a dragon and a librarian. I freaking love it. Finally, there is the possibility of a gargoyle named Renard, who is also old AF and has a bit of mystery to him.

There was plenty of humor in this book with the renaming of brands, the snide comments, and the ode to an 80s movie classic that had me cracking up. The plot was great, I love Delores (gods I now realize why her mother picked that name), she's a rebel going against the grain. However, there was this underline current throughout the book. I could tell something was gonna happen and while I guessed what it was, when it finally did happen it was like a punch to the gut.

Come Out & Prey was fabulous! This book had all the classic Cass stuff, footnotes, and chapter titles named after songs, the humor was glorious and there was a dark edge. I blazed through this book like it was on fire. By the end, some hard truths were learned in the most brutal way possible but don't count Dee out yet, she's stronger than anyone realizes, even herself. Come Out is just the beginning of Dee's story and I'm already thirsty for the next one.

This is the second time I’m writing this up, as Goodreads has loved crashing on me as I write reviews. 🙄🙄🙄

Okay, I’ll start by saying this review is for the second edition of this story. I didn’t read the first one so I cannot comment on the similarities or differences. I can say that I was hooked from the first page.

Dolores is a character that I could easily relate to in several ways. I love a plus sized FMC. It makes me feel seen and represented. Love is out there for big girls too. That being said, let’s get into the meat of this prequel.

First, you need to read this before the first full length novel of the series. We’re introduced to Dolores, her utterly deplorable parental units, her trash “besties”, the waste of space boyfriend, and a basic view of the world this series takes place in. We meet a few of the guys whom I’m guessing will be in her harem and a couple of characters I hope to see more of in the next book.

I was pleasantly surprised by the unexpected steam with a side of dirty talk. Yes please, I’d like more of that! The reveal of her animal went about how I expected. I also wasn’t surprised by what happened immediately afterwards. Her prince in furry armor was a nice pick me up after the proverbial shit hit the fan.

I spent a fair bit of time wanting to bitch slap, nut punch, or otherwise justly punish the idiots, morons, and downright hideous people that filled these pages. I cannot wait to see what happens once our girl makes it to Apex Academy.

Dnf. My friend told me about this book, I already had a sample downloaded. I really wanted to give it a chance and like it…but it’s just a bunch of words thrown in with no real meaning to me. We’re getting guys pov and I don’t understand wtf is going on or what they’re talking about….and this is supposedly a rewrite….her author ramblings was more interesting than the story! She didn’t lose her virginity to know her animal- because apparently everything is about sex and that’s how she knows what her animal is….

I couldn’t continue…I was already skipping pages. I hate a book with mm. 1 star for being trash.

Good beginning

I’m giving this a 3.5/5 stars.
Trigger warnings: emotional and physical abuse.
I understand that this was the introduction to the world and the characters that will be the story in the rest of the series. However this took the very scenic route to get to the destination if you get my drift. It’s not that it’s a bad story, or a bad book it’s just some of the stuff is repetitive and then once we get to the big reveal bam it’s done.
This book has a high heat level and includes scenes with same sex partners. If that’s not your jam then you may want to skip this one. I very much liked Delores. I thought she was smart, brave and incredibly clever. She was also insecure and too trusting in a world where weakness is exploited. I think this makes her incredibly realistic and I’m definitely interested is seeing how she’s going to deal with the huge changes coming her way.
In short good beginning if it bit repetitive but definitely worth a read.
I received a copy of this book through StoryOrigin. This review reflects my honest opinions.

Lies Soon Revealed

This story made me laugh and mad all at the same time but everybody loves a "Comeback Kid" and I need Delores to come out swinging. Fate has dealt her a sh*tty hand. Being raised as a Predator only to present as Prey, her whole life has been a lie. Her parents, boyfriend and girlfriends have completely turned their back on her because she is a Bunny Shifter and not an Apex Predator like they are.

My heart broke for Delores because she has a battle before her but I have a feeling fate is going to surround her with exactly what she needs to take on her worst enemies and make them all fall to their knees before her. It's time for Preys to rise up and take a stand and Delores is the leader that can make it happen.

My rating doesn't mean the book is bad, just interesting. The characters are pretty well built even if 50% of them make me grimace, the Heather's, Todd, and the parents 😠. DD is in the middle, her ignorance makes me cringe, but other parts of her shine as good traits that you know could be a great overall character.

Fast burn but not with the FMC or potential romantic MMCs. I found it hard not to laugh at Todd, but his douciness makes it hard not to laugh at his attempt at being all that!

overall it felt like a good introduction and start to a series, and i can't help wondering whats next to come.

2 stars so I did actually finish this book but I don't think I'm going to read the second one. there is a lot going on in this story and some of it makes absolutely no sense.

Delores - Bunny
Renard Laveaux - Gargoyle
Aubrey Draconis - Dragon
Felix Khan- Tiger Twin
Fitz/Fitzgerald Khan - Tiger Twin *
Chess - Cheetah *
*MM

So book one follows the FMC who has shit parents but they are on the council of important people. She has a group of friends all four of them are named Heather who are surgically enhanced to look alike and they wear the same outfit the only difference is they wear different color. FMC is dating Todd.

Apparently there's some sort of agrerment between all of them that they will not have sex until they were older and the FMC does not realize that everyone else including her boyfriend has already had sex at this point. The reason is their parents want allof them to have sex when they were 14 is because losing your virginity triggers your animal to come forward. Todd is a hyena.

The group goes on a Academy tour to view the Apex Academy. While she is there she breaks off from the group and she sees two of the mmcs having sex. Then a few weeks later she decides she wants to lose her virginity and mate with Todd during prom. Something happened to The Venue and they ended up having to have prom at the Apex Academy. Two of the mmcs Fitz and Aubrey had to help chaperone. While at the prom the boys in the friend group decided to Triple Spike the punch juice and all of them except for the FMC was already drunk when they got to the event. People started throwing up and the FMC and Todd went outside and she lost her virginity to him in the training arena.

Todd freaks the fuck out because she's prey and he was promised all this stuff to be her partner.
Todd in his Animal form comes after the FMC and she realizes that he shifted too quickly which means that he was already a shifter which means he already had sex and was cheating on her. FMC shifted.

"My parents and grandparents are preds from long lines of predators—we have DNA maps. There’s no way this could be happening. Yet, the instincts and bodily functions I felt when my shift emerged were not those of any Apex pred, not even a small one. It seems impossible, but Todd’s expression was so disgusted, hungry, and full of outrage there’s no way his reaction was a prank. Whatever sort of four-legged predator he is—I didn't get a clear look at him to see which—the truth was revealed during his fury.
My intended fiancé didn’t wait for our perfect prom night as he promised. There would have been no reason for the limo, the champagne, the rose petals or the fancy suite, even before they moved the prom to Apex. Everything I knew about my life—from my boyfriend and friends to my lineage—was an illusion."

"her phone at the ready, clearly live streaming this for her RipTok. The other Heathers follow suit, climbing onto chairs and baring canine fangs at me. Gold wiggles her fingers at me and blows a kiss before turning into a wolf. Purple crosses her arms over her chest, arches a brow, then morphs into an African wild dog. Silver snaps her jaws, shifts into a coyote, then looks down at the boys below as if waiting. They’ve all half-shifted into hyenas, including Todd.
My friends lied.
Every. Single. One. Of. Them.
The devastation sinks in for a second before self-preservation kicks in. I have to go. I have to get out of here now and hide where they can’t find me.
If I don’t…
“Run, rabbit, run!” someone screams gleefully." .. "Pink looks down and smirks. “Give her a little head start, boys. The Pred-pros you’re wearing will livestream the chase and her last moments directly to my channel. I’m hoping for a billion views by morning, so make it bloody.”
She just ordered them to kill me on live TV. Fuck!"

The thing that's kind of odd about after the scenario is she just calls her nanny and has her nanny come and pick her up to go back to her parents house after she talked to one of the mmcs who basically told her she needs to gather her true friends and fight back essentially.

What to expect? Come Out & Prey is a prequel book setting up and rh series about Delores getting revenge on all those who have wronged her. Delores comes from a high brow shifter family and she's expected to follow in their footsteps. Her parents are cruel to her. She has a boyfriend she's set to marry after graduation and "friends."

Things I loved?
🔸 I feel like this prequel sets up the series really nicely and it has me really, really excited to start the series. So, in many ways, (despite my rating) this book was a success. I read it in one sitting, it hooked me, and now I'm excited to read on. I'm now very attached to Delores getting even with all those who've betrayed her.
🔸 I loved Featherstones intentions with this rewrite. I think it's noble to go out and forge your own path with your writing. Because her writing belongs to her and she should get to do with it whatever the hell she wants.
🔸 There were so many fun names in this book like "Instagrowl... RipTok" so many fun littles plays on words. This book is fun and it's all about shifters and all these small details reflect that. (prey-net, PredHub, Vera Fang, etc)

What could be improved?
🔸 So, I say this first piece of criticism knowing I haven't read the rest of the series yet. But I think that this book could've been smashed into 50-100 words and been tacked onto book one or just been an opening novella rather than a full novel. Readers kind of know what's going to happen through the whole book. There's no real surprise.
🔸 I so badly want Featherstone to get an editor for this book that aligns with her authors vision and is a damn good editor. This book had so many good pieces to it and I loved the sentiment behind the rewrite, but a lot of the writing felt slightly choppy. And there was so. much. exposition. And most of it could've been worked in more elegantly. Info dumps could have been avoided. I wanted to learn these characters so badly, but pointless exposition kept getting in the way of me truly bonding with the men.
🔸 I'm going to leave things here, because so much of my overall feelings about this book will be determined by how the rest of the series is. I know Featherstone can write a banger book. I have faith here.

Books recs if you liked this one?
🔸 Veiled Flame by Cassandra Featherstone was a book I ARC read for her in 2024 (it feels strange to say that, I can't believe it's 2025 already) and it was a highlight of my year. It's another academy read and it's super well done, I can't wait to see where the series goes.
🔸Just Drop Out by J Bree. Okay, this series isn't paranormal, but if you like academy RH books, this is one of the classics and you'll love it, I promise.
🔸Cruel Magic by Eva Chase. While this series centers on different kinds of magic, it has similar elements with high pressure and cruelty running rampant in the high families. And Cruel magics fmc also comes into her own power and the book is just fabulous in general.

Would I recommend this book? I'm going to read the series and get back to you guys on this one. If the series follows through well on this prequel, then yes. We shall see.

⭐⭐⭐.5 rounded up
🌶️🌶️

I don't think I have ever been so back and forth about how I feel about a book as I was with this one.

Thank you Literary Inspired and Cassandra Featherstone for an ALC.

I was very amused by all the small details, like names of popular social media and sites adapted for this shifter world, things like garments made for specific shifters and highlighting issues unique to different shifter races. It's goofy, cheesy humor and super-horny-charged like you would expect from an academy age range, except it's the teachers who give the students a run for the gold medal in the horny and exhibitionist games.

The overall struggles of our FMC Delores are relatable to many even if her upbringing is less relatable to most. I loved all the well-fleshed-out teachers and was more interested in them than our main girl myself. That is not to say there is anything wrong with Delores. She is well written and very 3D, but just not the kind of FMC that captures my love and attention. If you enjoyed Zodiac Academy, definitely give this a try.

Kayden Lukakis absolutely killed the narration in this audiobook. His voices perfectly matched the characters and he brought them to life while also making them stand apart. Both he and Michelle Price gave spectacular performances that elevated this book and kept me listening.

I read the previous version of this prequel a while ago, and I was quite interested to see the changes this author made to it. The central storyline where we meet Delores and learn more about the divide between predator and prey shifters within this world has stayed the same, which is something I was really happy with because it's the thing that drew me to the books in the first place. This is a pretty brutal world, were predator shifters are mostly of the cruel and backstabbing kind and danger lurks around every corner for those who still have some basic humanity left.

The biggest change, as far as I can remember, seems to be the bigger storyline including the men and how they ended up at Apex Academy. Their character building has gotten a bit more 'body' in this new version of "Come Out & Prey", making it easier to get an idea about their personalities and what led them to become the men they are. I love the found family they created inside of the Academy, and I really enjoyed their brief interactions with Delores throughout this prequel. It definitely created an intense desire to pick up the second book. Imagine my surprise when I found out this is going to be a true series with multiple books including Delores and her five professors now! With all the snippets we got regarding Delores wanting payback, and the men being denied their futures, I can't wait to see what will come next for all of them!

Come Out & Prey is a re-release of the book by the same name by Cassandra Featherstone. Similar to Taylor Swift, Cassandra released this prequel to the Apex Society

Come Out & Prey is a re-release of the book by the same name by Cassandra Featherstone. Just like Taylor Swift, Cassandra released her version of this prequel to the Apex Academy Series. Throwing off the shackles of expectations, she’s completely revised the series to truly make it her own vision. If you’re a fan of the original, Cass kept all the best parts and enhanced the plot and the characters. COAP has all the snark, humour, and puns you expect from a book by Cassandra Featherstone. In fact, this series might take the humour up a level or ten.

Set in a world of shifters where predators reign supreme and the strongest and most vicious of them rule. Dolores, daughter of the strongest shifter council member, is biding her time, waiting for her predator to emerge and planning prom night with her boyfriend. Until a tour of Apex Academy changes everything.

COAP is a wonderful introduction to what promises to be a fun and intriguing new world. I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard while reading.

If you enjoy, smart, snarky, heroines who are finding themselves, grumpy librarian dragons, chaos loving gargoyles, proud tiger kings, psychotic cinnamon roll tigers and sweet artsy cheetahs, then run to read this phenomenal book. Seriously, I’d give it 6 stars if I could

Come Out & Prey by Cassandra Featherstone is book one in the Apex Academy Capers series and it was so good.

💜 FMC finding her way
💜 predator/prey hierarchy dynamics
💜 coming of age
💜 shifters
💜 🌶🌶 spice

Delores Drew is the heir to the Drew family, a prestigious predator council family. That means her parents and the money and means to get what they want when they want and that’s without showing their predator shifters that hide under their skin. But they are also nasty and cruel to live with. But that’s ok. Delores, DD by her friends, has a plan. That’s to marry her boyfriend and get out of her parents thumb and influence. Prom night just needs to come, she can mess around with her boyfriend, lose the v-card, and find out what kind of snifter she is. That’s easy, right? But nothing in life is ever easy and things don’t go according to any plan. What’s a girl to do?

This first book of the series was so good. As per usual, Cassandra’s world building is on point and pulls you in with all of the details. I love Delores’ sassy attitude and backbone as she navigates her life. I can’t wait to see what happens next in book two.

This book is more like a novella or prequel for this series and world. We get a good bit of back story and a really nice foundation to build upon moving forward.
The world of predator and prey is really interesting. The predators are just plain awful. The whole society is insane. It goes beyond alpha into eat or be eaten. People only care about what you can do for them. If you don't fall in line, you die. If you don't fight back, you die. The amount of things that the majority of predators do, that is just morally wrong is astonishing. Under age kids getting body modifications. Parents who don't care about their children. Just woah. How anyone survives this world is beyond me.
I am so interested in what Delores is going to do moving forward. She is out for revenge on the plastic Heather's and Todd and the Todd boys. She wants revenge on her evil mother and nasty father. I love that Mattie is so kind to Delores, but I hate that Delores's mom forbids any kind of closeness.
I am so ready to see all of these bad folks get what's coming for them.
The found family of the professors at Apex Academy is amazing. We have the grumpy dragon, the broody gargoyle, the shy cheetah, the angry tiger king, and the psycho tiger enforcer. The little snippets we get from them are super intriguing. I cannot wait to see where this goes.
All of the humor, puns and general naming of things cracks me up and I can't wait to see more!!

I don’t even know what in the world is happening. I DNF pretty quickly because it was like I was just dropped into a story without any real background or knowledge of anything in this world. All you get before the weird sex scenes start (and I’m not saying this because it is M/M… its just like in the middle of a tour she happens to find these two dudes sucking off and jerking off each other and plays with herself while watching…) is that they’re predators. I don’t understand how these weird predators come out. Are they shifters or do they just have them in their essence or what? Are there humans at all? And how does a crocodile and a whatever the heck her mother is mate? In human skin? This is just super odd to me and doesn’t make a lick of sense.

What’s the council and why is it there? Why are there 4 heathers and why the heck do they all look like each other, but aren’t related?

Honestly, there’s just too many questions that should have answers from the beginning.

And I really dislike reading so many POVs. It takes the joy and mystery out of what is going to happen next. I can handle 2 or 3. But SEVEN? 😅🫣

I honestly read this book the day it was released for the public on Kindle Unlimited and have been a Cassandra Featherstone fan ever since!

Dolly is one badass chick and once she learned of her animal, she became a badass Bunny!
The world Dolores lives in is Predator vs Prey and her life was set out for her since birth. It was guaranteed she would be a Predator same as her parents, yet when the day came our FMC transformed into one of the most notable examples of Prey… a snow white rabbit.

With this revelation comes the journey of self discovery, acceptance and resilience. The readers venture through Apex Academy with Dolly and learn of the hierarchy surrounding the characters of this series, the problems our FMC faces as well as learns to overcome, great banter and overall a good story.

While there are parts of this book that can be considered dark, I overall enjoyed every damn bit of it. I love the way Cassandra fleshed out the main characters, expanded on the world of Apex, and kept me glued and strapped in since the first page of this book.

You have a fan in me, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

*Audiobook Review*

The foreboding in this book is something else. You know what is going to happen but listening to Delores being completely oblivious as it unfolds broke my heart. At least her parents were awful to her face but the Heathers and Todd are just vile and this world is BRUTAL. Michelle Price really captures Delores' naivety whilst giving glimpes of who she has the potential to be as well as showcasing how witty she is. There are some genuinely funny moments in this and the humour of Delores POV was the only thing that got me through that particular scene with Todd. Luckily Delores has caught the eye of some much more impressive preds at Apex Academy voiced by Kayden Lukakis who already have her back whether she realises it or not yet. Bring on first year!

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read

I was skeptical to try this series after the re-write because I hard noped out of the original - but this was seriously addictive. Cassandra, whatever you did to give yourself the freedom to rewrite this, thank you as a reader!

For me, a central theme of this book was a young woman ignoring her intuition/instincts, and the consequences of doing so. For me, that is such a powerful theme - unfortunately our society conditions women to do that (unless gen z and alpha have been freed from that which I can only hope) and so it resonated with me and I felt the tension and heartache along with our FMC.

In this book, we are introduced to what I assume is the very beginning of the RH and potential RH members, but there was only 1 mildly steamy scene. I am totally enjoying the pace of this, it makes sense for the plot and I’m looking forward to the next book!

FYI about my ratings: a great book is 4 stars, I reserve 5 stars for very few all time favorites.

Dolores is the daughter of Council members with a proud predator pedigree. Despite all her efforts to make her parents happy with her and love her, they are never satisfied.
Visiting the Apex Academy is a more than exciting day, where more than one hawt professor turns her head. But that should not make her hot and bothered, as she already has a boyfriend, Tedd.
Anywho, nobody needs enemies when they have friends. The Heathers, Tedd, and his buddies are, like herself, brought up by ruthless predator parents, and they all take well to that life. All except Dolores.
The book ends with Dolores’s life in ruins and her looking forward to attending an all-predator school - as a bunny shifter. Yeah, that’s her luck!
I’m hooked and on to the next book! This has drawn me in! One the best reads this year so far.
I highly recommend this to fans of laughing, shifters, romance, and WhyChoose.

let us prey fr

So the whole “surprise I’m actually a bunny” PNR troupe makes me gag but out of all the other unwanted PNR troupes this is the most bearable. I liked the writing absolutely hated the FMC having her VCard but trying to find an FMC without it is like trying to find an “alpha male MMC” who actually apologises. Also she lacks a lot for someone who was raised the way she was. However if I ignore all the things that I hate I actually enjoyed this book and the last chapter gives me hope for a decent FMC because let’s be honest we can ignore anything as long as we like the FMC.
Also so far the only MMCs I look forward to seeing more of is the dragon and gargoyle they seem interesting and not like common characters. In saying that they did get less time in this book but fingers crossed.

Hop-Hop-Revenge🔥

This first book had me hook line and VOM PROM.DD you can tell right off the bat that she is different, she has a beautiful heart and thinks that once she emerges has a Predator ( with her friends and mangy BF Todd)that life will be perfect she will no longer have doubts and be out in f her parents shadow. But little does she know her Whole Wide World is about to be turned upside down. After she tours Apex Academy and meet the 2 Smoking hot professor getting Hot and Heavy in the library , she start thinking ? Then her Senior Prom is moved too the academy and she emerges has prey. But that not the best part her whole life has been half truths now she had to start a new path on her own and with the guidance and help of 5 professors…… but I’m not going to ruin it please download your copy today!!!!!

This was such a fun read, and unfortunately it was over before I knew it. The author really mastered building the world, introducing the characters—both major and secondary—and showing the various dilemmas our female lead has found herself in.

It manages to be fast-paced, yet complex, a quick, light read with some darkness, and adventurous all at the same time. Featherstone has skills! I cannot wait to read/hear more in this world.

Packs:

Body-shaming.
Curvy heroine.
Shifters of truly, all kinds.
Academy setting.
New adult.
Rich ‘kids’.
Royal / pack / shifter politics.
Mean girls.
Betrayals, everywhere.
Parental neglect.
Excessive drinking, partying.
Dubcon.
Proactive / possessive alphas.

And more.
Overall:
4 stars.

🎧 Audio:
The audio was fantastic! A perfect production—5 stars.

What a delicious mixed bag! Oops, I didn't see the note about this being a prequel. No wonder this felt more like a prologue since there wasn't much action (more teenage exposition than anything) and yet I kinda love this series like a secret guilty pleasure. Sure, there's "obvi" clichés with Fangbook, Rip-Tok, dumb names like Lucille, Delores, Todd, Chad, and the Heathers plus pop culture Jonas Bros & T-Swift references, but it's the reverse harem potential with the exiled profs that have me intrigued. I can't believe the MC had to go through pencil dick and betrayal. I'm not exactly surprised either, given how almost everyone around her was super toxic. Let's hope she comes into her own as a bunny with her predator protectors in the next book.
p.s. the secret chapter was highly appreciated. 8)

This story got a makeover. This is Cass’s version of the story from her co-write of Let Us Prey the prequel. You get more out of this one. It’s definitely a different version but in a good way. I like Cass’s version of the story. This is a dark steamy paranormal romance with shifter romance thrown in as well. Definitely read the prequel before reading this one. So you can understand the characters and the world they are set in. Dolly comes out a prey animal instead of a predator. She looses her friends. She is sent to Apex it’s a school for predator animals. She is the only prey student. How will Dolly survive? With the help of some hot teachers that’s how and some pred friends. This book is a must read.

was pitched the original version of this book on tiktok months and months ago.
popcorn, wattpad adjacent literature
i appreciated how short and quickly paced it was; i likely wouldn't have finished it otherwise
could have used another readthrough/ editor. this was most exemplified by "the Heathers". Could have really used a run down of colour, family name and basic background was each. gun to my head would not be able to tell you which was which. one of them also got a final hour backstory with a meta jokey "did i not mention that earlier?" tacked on.
would have loved a one or two-sentence explanation about how this society and humans co-exist. at times seemed like only shifters existed but the second half of the book made mention to humans. confusing

I loved the original book and knew I would have to read the new version since the author noted that changes were made. If I am being honest, I am a little disappointed. It was extremely hard for me to get into the story.

I will say I am glad that I started the series over since some character names and animals have been changed. It would have been confusing if I had just jumped into book three when it gets released.

I did notice that this book needs to be reedited. There were a lot of grammar and spelling issues throughout. I usually can ignore them. But there were quite a few and distracted from the storyline.

I will still be jumping into the next book. I am really hoping I will still be in love with the characters after finishing that one.
