The Vandar raiders who roam the sky are deadly and fierce. The mercenary hunting me is terrifying -- and will stop at nothing to claim me.

I thought the cocky Vandar raiders I had to work alongside were my biggest problem. That was before the deranged leader of a ruthless band of mercenaries decided I belonged to him.

As a member of the underground Valox resistance, there are few things I fear. The terrifying alien outlaw who’s obsessed with me is one of them.

But now my biggest problem isn’t the alien searching for me, it’s the Vandar battle chief assigned to take me to safety. To say that Kaiven and I don’t get along would be an understatement. The Vandar might be huge and ripped, but he’s also arrogant and expects me to obey him.

At least I know that nothing will happen between us as he secrets me to the Valox base—unless it’s possible for us to annoy each other to death. Then the mercenaries find us and take us both captive. Can Kaiven save me from the alien outlaw who’s determined to make me his queen? Or will his promise to protect me destroy us both?

Protector is a full-length sci-fi romance novel with a HEA and no cheating. It features steamy scenes on an alien spaceship, thrilling space battles, and some serious heat.

If you like dominant alien warriors, alien abduction to seduction romance, and fated mates with a happily ever after, you’ll love "Protector", the ninth book in Tana Stone’s sci-fi romance series, Raider Warlords of the Vandar.

I love sexy aliens and independent heroines. I grew up on Star Trek: Next Generation and Star Wars (and I adore them equally). My favorite superhero is Thor (with Aquaman a close second because, well, Jason Momoa), my favorite dessert is key lime pie (okay, fine, all pie), and I still lament the loss of Firefly.

I live in North Carolina in the US and have one husband, two teenagers, and two neurotic cats. I sometimes wish I could teleport to a holographic space station like the one in my tribute brides series (or maybe vacation at the oasis with the sand planet barbarians). :-) When I'm not writing, I love to paddleboard, dive, travel, and read obsessively!

Another great instalment to the Vandar series. Kaiven and Thea’s relationship is rocky from the start, but it’s a fine line between hate to love. Both had hard childhoods, which affects the way they interact with others. Plenty of action and adventure to their happy ever after. I received an ARC from the author and am leaving my review voluntarily

Tana Stone's Protector, the latest addition to the Raider Warlords of the Vandar Series, is a thrilling sci-fi alien romance featuring a dominant alien warrior and a feisty human woman. An action-packed story filled with humor and clever dialogue.

The main characters, Thea and Kaiven, are both charming, but it was Thea's inner strength and resilience that truly stood out to me. Despite facing great tragedy and fear of losing what she holds dear, she remains determined and capable, never letting anything stand in her way, especially concerning Kaiven. I admired how she took the initiative to make the first move, which ignited a passionate romance between them.

Even though Kaiven initially comes across as arrogant, his sweet and playful side emerges as Thea challenges his assumptions. Their chemistry is undeniable, and it shines through every obstacle they face together. I found myself rooting for them from beginning to end.

Overall, Protector is a fast-paced and enjoyable read that I highly recommend to fans of the genre.

Dual POV
This book includes appearances by characters from earlier books in the series but can be enjoyed as a standalone read.

Tropes: space opera, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, fated mates, "touch her and I'll unalive you" vibes

Kaiven and Thea
OMG, Kaiven is so yummy. Ok he is super bossy but he is also very good and he knows it. Thea also knows it and She hates it. Well not really, but She does annoy him a lot just to prove her point. So much tension that we can't stop reading! Amazing! Also Manson has just what he was asking for One it was very fufilling. I love these warriors.

🔥 “You can fight me all you want, Thea, but your body knows it belongs to me.”
~~~
Thea is a skilled mechanic and part of the Valox resistance, who’s currently assigned to work with one of the Vandar horde, helping them prepare for the fight against the Zagrath empire. She’s smart, resourceful, independent, strong and fierce. Even more, she’s so bold, defiant and quite stubborn and she’s not afraid to stand up for herself. I adored her so, so much!
And then we have battle chief Kaiven. That Vandar warrior is bossy, cocky, headstrong, confident and arrogant. But he’s also fiercely protective, honorable and a brilliant strategist. And I loved his dominance, too. Kaiven is quite the magnificent male and I loved every single thing about this big, strong and smoking-hot grump!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Thea and Kaiven! From the moment she stepped on the Vandar warbird, those two have been at odds. And they were constantly challenging each other at every turn. But when Manson - the leader of the Kessel Run mercenaries - is back and after Thea, Kaiven devises a plan to protect her. But the last thing he expects is to be the one to accompany Thea to the Valox base. I adored those two together! Their chemistry was combustible and I absolutely loved every moment of their constant bickering and banters. They might have not been fond of each other in the beginning, but… you know what they say - there’s a fine line between love and hate. And the more time Kaiven and Thea spent together, the more their feelings for each other grew. Even more, they make quite the badass team, too! And when they couldn’t resist the undeniable need for one another anymore, the passionate moments they shared were off-the-charts hot! It takes a special kind of Vandar warrior to subdue a fiery woman like Thea, and Kaiven more than delivers. They were so perfect for each other and I couldn’t get enough of either of them!
In addition, the storyline was fantastic! Not only are the Vandar and the Valox resistance preparing for the upcoming battle against the Zagrath, but now they have the ruthless Kessel Run mercenaries and their deranged leader to deal with. With everything happening, the danger, the unexpected turns of events and the bold escapes, I was glued to the pages till the very end.
Overall, Protector is another brilliant addition to the series! It’s filled with non-stop action, danger, suspense, betrayals, humor, twists, blazing hot passion and spectacular characters.
I devoured and absolutely loved every page of it!
And with THAT epilogue, I cannot wait to see what happens next!
The Vandar Warriors series is one of my favorite of Tana’s. The worldbuilding all along has been great. The male characters never fail to act like one might expect alien warriors to behave. Kaiven, the male hero is a stubborn battle chief who I quickly came to like. What I loved about him most was his loyalty to his Vandar brothers. He was a very likeable and good guy. I admired his dedication to his task of getting Thea, to safety.
Though she was a challenge for him, to be sure. It was clearly an enemies to lovers trope throughout but I wasn’t crazy about Thea, the FMC. She was abrasive and stubborn to the point of annoying. It was good to see her arc change to where she realized feelings for Kaiven but even then she didn’t seem to have any true appreciation of him. I wasn’t really sure I wanted Kaiven to end up with her because of the way she was with him.
That said, their were well-written, steamy love scenes as I’ve come to expect from Tana’s books. The introduction of Koop was great. His character was well developed and I liked him.
Of course the story was action packed with plenty of twists, edge of your seat worry for the characters which is why I like these books. You are kept guessing what might happen next, right up to the end.
It was great meeting or hearing about some of the characters from the other books without a complete rehash of what happened to them.
The reason I enjoy reading alien romance is because it is entirely fantasy and easy to forget your troubles for a while when reading them. Unfortunately so many of the books by other authors are riddled with typos and poor storylines and too much sex. But Tana’s books are well written compared to so many in this genre.
I like the alien heroes she creates and how they look. It’s an easy read and I find it hard to stop reading Tana’s books once I pick them up. This story was a joy to read, light and fun!
This was a sci-fi alien warrior romance.
This series is my favorite and this book chef's kiss! The interactions between Thea and Kaiven are smoking hot. I love the plot twists the author has incorporated into this series. Highly recommend!
Thea is a ship's mechanic and Valox resistor. She joined the Vandar crew for the joint attack on the empire. Her best friends are Cassie and Sloane who are mates to Vandar warriors. She is fiercely independent, defiant of authority and has a strong dislike for Kaiven. She was raised by her grandfather after her family was killed in an imperial attack.
Kaiven is a Vandar battle chief. He is arrogant and thinks humans, especially women, are beneath him. He cannot understand why Raas Ayden and Raas Ronnan chose human females as their Raisa's.
Thea and Kaiven have an acrimonious relationship. When her safety is threatened by Manson the leader of the Kassal Run mercenaries, Raas Ayden assigns Kaiven the mission of taking her to the Valox base. Their shuttle is captured by Manson and his crew. Kaiven is tossed in the brig where he meets a young human male named Koop who snuck on board the ship to kill Manson. Kaiven, Koop and Thea fool the mercenaries into thinking they escaped the ship and are able to take over the ship. They hide in a meteor field while Thea works on the ship and Kaiven sends messages to the Vandar and Valox for help. They are able to get Thea and Koop onto a Valox ship but they are betrayed by a Captain in board. Thea gets taken by Manson and Kaiven with the help of another Vandar horde rescue her and they get their HEA.
A wonderful addition to this series, I loved the wonderful read it was a simply wonderful scenario
The Vandar raiders are full of themselves and they have been working alongside the leader of the deranged leaders of a ruthless and despicable group of mercenaries and they have decided that she belongs to him. As a group of the Valox resistance there are few things he fears, and is it true that the alien I have been so obsessed over is in fact one of them.
The largest problem that we are current dealing with is the alien currently searching for me but the Vandar battle chief has assigned me to Kaiven and they do not get along and still he expects that whilst she is under his care will do as she is told so that the safety can be continued, he expects her to simply obey but she is not an obeying kind.
She knows that there is nothing that can or will happen between the pair and as he hides her away safely on Velox base the simply avoid irritating each other but will Kaiven be able to save me from the mercenaries that are holding me captive.
This is a riveting read where you will be able to see the difference between a promise and his success at keeping them safe or will they both fall foul and be destroyed.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
Enemies to lovers perfection
The enemies to lovers, alien with a side of dangerous stalker romance of Thea and Kaiven was a fun, steamy, and suspenseful read. In my opinion for an enemies to lovers story to work, the author has to straddle a fine line of sexy animosity without tipping into meanness or abuse. In this book this balance was done perfectly. Thea and Kaiven’s you get on my nerves banter was so fun to read. Kaiven is the battle chief of a Kyrie Vandar horde. Thea is a human mechanic with the Valox Resistance that is working on the Vandar ship while they plan a joint attack in the Empire. Thea and Kaiven do not get along and have difficulty even being in the same room without sniping at each other. When an insane mercenary fixates on Thea and is hunting her, Kaiven is assigned to transport her to safety. Unfortunately, they are captured on the way there. As the danger and suspense heats up, so does their overwhelming attraction and chemistry and the slide into lovers. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. There were sweet moments, steamy scenes, fighting, dangerous situations, alien physiology and cultures, painful pasts, drama, snark, plot twists, and laughs. I love this series and all the growly Vandar warriors who are no match for human females.
Protector is another fabulous entry in the Vandar series timeline and kept me totally engaged with the intensity of leads Thea and Kaiven’s “I’m in denial” attraction for each other.
While I waited in eager anticipation for THEM to realize it events began to unravel around them coalescing into one insanely good action-adventure, and speaking of insane there is that Kassel Run leader Manson still obsessed with having Thea for himself which forces plans to be implemented to send her to the Valox Base for safe keeping, and guess what battle chief gets to protect her? Yes, Kaiven whose been elected to escort her meaning things are seriously going to become explosive in more ways than one especially when Manson finds them while they are en route.
I had quite a few chuckles while reading some of the characters interactions with each other as the sexual tension weaving its way into the Thea and Kaiven situation became ever more palpable.
The author’s writing was expertly crafted as usual with characters so finely honed you either adored them or couldn’t wait for them to receive their comeuppance.
The Vandar world is a perfectly imagined one and pulls you in every time and I highly recommend this series to ALL Sci-Fi Romance lovers!
another great story in this series i love reading about these sexy viking raiders who are all tough, alpha, strong, dominant, powerful, sexy, muscular, bossy, fierce and more yet end up loving their mates with their entire being. kaiven is just like this a loyal to his vandar brothers, finding his way as a new Raas of a horde warship who is intrigued, entranced and pulled towards Thea a human resistance mechanic who gets lost in her work keeping the ships in the sky. She is feisty, independent, no nonsense, kick ass heroine who isn't ready to fall in line with kaiven's idea of a mate and isn't really even sure she likes him all that much. Then they are both kidnapped and have to escape while saving a bunch of kids before the leader of the bad guys Manson keeps her for himself which she wants no part of. Danger ensues, excitement, suspense, thrills, drama, emotional ups and downs and so much more happen before a thrilling conclusion. featuring other previous characters as well which is always great to have. awesome well developed characters that come to life on the page, world building that is so real u can picture it as u live the story along with the characters as u read. i highly recommend this book and series. it is exceptional.
I received an arc copy and this is my honest voluntary review.
4&1\2 terrific 🌟's for Protector💖
Thea the human female mechanic for is tough feisty and beautiful. He sole mission in life is to see the empire destroyed just as they destroyed her family many years ago. She's going to make sure every ship has the best possible chance to take out the enemy. What she doesn't count on is the mercenary Manson coming for her. He's decided she is to be his queen and he'll kill anyone who gets in the way. Kaiven, is the battle chief not a fan of the human women when they first came to work with the Vandar he can't seem to deny his attraction to a certain mechanic. He fights how he's feeling at every turn until the mercenary targets Thea and kidnapped her. Kaiven, is charged with her safety and as they get to truly know one anther their thoughts and feelings Bout each other change. They fight hard but they love even harder! Danger is everywhere, betrayal rears its ugly head and all the while both Kaiven and Thea can't deny the fire between them . thier passion slowly turns to something deeper, love. They must save each other so their explosive love can last a lifetime!💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥 great story !🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖
Protector is the ninth book in the fantastic Raider Warlords of the Vandar series by Tana Stone.
Raider Warlords of Vandar Series by Tana Stone is another fantastic sci-fi romance series – with an ‘abduction and seduction’ theme that runs through the collection.
With Alien Warlords, resistance fighters, space battles, action, adventure, captives, war, alpha males, tension, intrigue, emotion, drama, and danger- while the vivid world-building made this series all the more enjoyable.
Each book could be read as a standalone, but there is a ‘bigger picture’ being painted in the background, therefore, I really recommend reading the entire series (in sequence) so you don’t miss any of the important interconnected details, which will elevate you whole reading experience.
Looking forward to more from Ms. Stone…
Happy Reading…
Thank you, Tana Stone!
Ya’ll this is Thea’s book….and she landed herself the sexy and scary battle chief. I know, right these two were burning up the pages. All their stubborn banter back and forth, and when they finally gave in…well when Thea went for it…whew baby it was fire. You know the mercenary that is obsessed with her in the previous book…yeah, so he is still obsessed with her and will stop at nothing to get her. This made for a fast paced and addicting read.
Great storyline that will have you glued to the pages. A sexy couple that are bringing more heat than the engines she works on. We get to see some of our favorites from previous books, including from the first series, and gained some new favorites. Epilogue that had me saying, wait what…noooooo, I need more now, and a mating marks hea.
Fun, easy read. Manson is an evil mercenary leader who has set his sights on Thea. Her superiors decide they will send her to a different location with a guard to insure she arrives safely. Of course the guard happens to be the one Vandar she dislikes above all others. All does not go as planned and Thea is kidnapped and Kaiven imprisoned.
After managing to escape Thea and Kaiven eventually succumb to the attraction that has grown between them due to forced close proximity.
The mercenaries are in hot pursuit so a new idea is created to keep Thea out of their hands. All does not go according to plan and they find themselves separated. Kaiven vows to rescue Thea at all costs.
This was a great full length, Vandar raiders sci-fi, romance with alien warriors, alien abduction, and fated mates. It’s Kaiven and Thea’s story where they have a rocky start to their relationship. I loved their relationship of enemies to lovers, it was steamy and fun. It’s well written with a fantastic storyline thrilling space battles, steamy scenes, alien abduction, Hot Alpha Vandar raiders, action adventure suspense twists turns and an enemies to lovers romance that makes you read all night long just to see what happens next. I highly recommend this book and series, you’ll be amazed.
Thea and the Battle Chief
Not perfect, but very engaging. The stories themselves get better with each book, and this time we find Thea being pursued by an insane mercenary, bent on capturing and keeping her. Manson is being funded by the empire (Zagrath) and appears over powered in the strategy department, able to out-think the Vandar time and again. It's "The Perils of Pauline" alien-edition. But we don't mind so much in the end, because we get the HEA we've been hoping for.
Easy read, that you don't want to put down. With all the expected elements of a Sci-Fi Alien romance.
Manson is back and even more determined to claim Thea for his own. Because of this, Thea and Kaiven are ordered to pair up to get her to safety. When two people that can't stand each other are forced together what could possibly go wrong? (And which original Raas will we get to see this time?)
This book has everything that makes Raider Warlords of the Vandar so good while also having a completely new story line and adventure. Protector has enemies to lovers, forced proximity, action, space battles, and plenty of twists and turns.
What a mesmerizing read. Manson the psycho is back and wants his Queen, Thea. She is undeniably scared out of her wits when she realizes he won't give up. The Vandar are formidable and vow to protect Thea. What she wasn't expecting though was the one person she continually butts heads with to be her guardian. What could possibly go wrong? Kaiven will do anything and everything to protect Thea from the clutches of a madman.
How one person can have that much clout among the stars is unfathomable.
A brilliant read Tana 🔥 💜🔥💜
I was anxiously waiting for Kaiven's and Thea's story since we were introduced to the lost Vandar's.
This enemies-to-lovers story was fun, witty, suspenseful, steamy, and thrilling.
The way they banter with each other was fodder for their attraction and Tana really kept their animosity in a respectful line.
He's the hardened battle chief who's not accustomed to defiant females and the Valox mechanic is ready to defy him.
I was given a free copy of this book and I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a story, I loved the characters of Thea and Kaiven. Their sparring is evident right from the start of the book, he has little time for Thea and she thinks he’s a righteous pr**k! A nasty character raises its head from the previous story and Kaiven’s Raas decides the only way to deal with this obnoxious character is to trap him, that, however, doesn’t sit well with Kaiven when he realises that he’s going to be alone Thea who is the bait! A great and well written story.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC and these are my thoughts.
Some books are just great. This one is one of those. Just the imagination of the author, I mean, the Vandar with their tails, the villains with their reeking body stink, the galaxies far far away... How she manages to always bring a new book with new storylines, still intertwinning some of the previous characters, still making each new story fresh... Just great. Five fabulous stars- I wish there were more available.
I received this story as an ARC and am so very very happy to give my review.
This is a great series. Each book in the series is a stand alone with a HEA. Strong women - strong men. One of the best parts of the story is that there IS a story, and that while the women second guess themselves ... they never loose their decisiveness and never become wishy-washy ... Overall women you would want to be friends with and over protective, clueless men you would want to ...well, become the center of their universe!. So yeah, great series, a little freaky, a little alien, overall a great summer read.
Protector leans into the reluctant allies trope with flair. Kaiven and the heroine’s animosity-turned-desire is full of crackling banter and escalating tension. The mercenary threat raises the external danger, but it’s their sniping chemistry and slow-building trust that steals the show. Their capture adds a twist, testing their loyalties and hearts. The blend of action, sass, and emotional vulnerability makes Protector one of the more well-rounded entries in the series. A strong enemies-to-lovers journey with plenty of sparks and a hero worth swooning over.
The two main characters ever liked each other from the moment they met. Kaiven thought human females caused his kind to be weak. He thought them weak, refused to fall for them, cater to them. But he was a fighter, did have honour and never gave up. Thea was overly independent, defiant of authority, and lacking respect for superiors. Nor did she take criticism well….especially from him. Sit back and enjoy the ride as these keep butting heads against each other while facing incredible danger.
Protector is book 9 of the Raider Warlords of Vandar series. We revisit the characters from book 7: Prodical and book 8: Prisoners. This book did not disappoint. From enemies to lovers, forced proximity, being chased through space by a madman, spicy banter and chemistry between the strong FMC and a hot brooding MC. It was such an entertaining and enjoyable read, I couldn't put the book down. I highly recommend this book and in fact the whole series.
Thea likes working on the engines of the Vandar ships. She does not like the overly cocky Vandar battle chief Keiven. getting in her buisness, He is a battle chief not an engineer. But when the mercenay leader come after her is is Keivan she wmust rely on. There are going to be fireworks. This a great read with two really stubborn characters. I love this story and look forward to the next book.
