This is going to be a long one guys....

Up until last year the only science fiction book I'd read was jurassic park. But there I was scrolling tiktok when I come across this guy and his hilarious video! So what did I do? I clicked his profile and had some really good laughs ( his stuff is great you should check it out) and then I watched a video about how he was looking for ARC readers for his upcoming book Beyond Foresaken Worlds! So I signed up for it and waited for it to hit my email. Let me tell you I devoured that book. It was amazing, but the ending had me waiting "patiently" for the second book....now here comes the review

Beyond the bounds of time had me laughing, cussing, screaming, crying, and completely enthralled!!! This author built an entire universe, tore it to shreds, and put it back together again. It was absolutely amazing and deserves more than the 5 stars I was allotted to give. Both books deserve some kind of award they are that good. But don't take my word for it go ahead and grab the first book and be looking for the second one to come out! You won't be disappointed

Happy reading 📚

JP has taken the world he built in the first book and turned it upside down and sideways in this second one.
If you like Sci-Fi, Dystopian and spice then this book is for you. For those who do not like spice JP does give fair warning and even names which chapters to skip, but the spice adds to the story I feel.
Our trio is out there saving the Worlds one timeline at a time "Pruning" and it gives for some interesting and heart breaking twists. This book was jammed packed full of twists and action, it had me on a rollercoaster of OMGS, WTFS and snot filled tissues.
Thank you to the author for the ARC this is my voluntary review and I have no regrets!!
This was so beautifully done that you can literally hear the music of the story in your mind as you read. Every chord is laid out so when the crescendo comes you're holding your breath! BRAVO SIR, BRAVO

It’s here it’s here!!!!! JP McDonald is back and ready to take you across space and time in his wonderfully epic Sci Fi with a sprinkle of Dystopian spice adventure.

The Attenborough, the king of the wilds and the whacky crew of awesomeness are back for part two of our beyond adventure. Or as beautifully stated, ‘troupe of additional crazies’.

This book will have you laughing, crying, screaming, angry, happy and everything in between. Oh and did I mention a little hot and spicy 🌶️.

I adore JPs writing style and is not what I would normally read. However, he has made me love it and converted me to his unique creative ways. He has a super fan in me and I’ve loved his style since The Invisible Tether(If you haven’t read go read that too).

It’s so great to be back with the crew and a few more characters. You will love them, hate them, scream at them or cry with them. The found family is huge in this book. The diversity and character development is gorgeous throughout the series. It’s real, brutal and honest. It explores how we can mess up the environment and our world. How we can contribute to our own downfall. But also beautifully about endangered species.

It’s not just a discovery in space, it’s a discovery in character, self, morals, our place in the world and who we are.

Please have a box of tissues, a beverage and some chocolate to endure the last few chapters. As it’s wild, emotional but of so beautiful.

Signing off with a Dallis curtsy bow and a glob of energy jizz.

As always check the triggers and warnings. This has some spice.

Uber lucky to get an ARC copy- this is my honest feedback and free chaotic vibes. This is all my personal opinion.

“Beneath it all, despite our differences, we are all the same. Our bones glisten like white gravestones under tender rain. Our flesh withers like a childhood dream caught in the wrinkled fist of reality.”

Writing this review with a tender heart and watery eyes, and I’m feeling selfish with my thoughts. I want to sit in this dizzying cacophony of post-read bliss and ache awhile longer. Once a review is out, thoughts neatly logged, the brain starts to store it as memory, but I want this reading experience to be current events. I want to keep the passages on the tip of my tongue and hold these characters close to my chest. Never letting go.

Alas, this book deserves to be celebrated across the galaxy. Beyond the Bounds of Time has everything I crave in a story. There is a beautiful mix of action and adventure that’ll have you flying through the pages eager to see what happens next and moments of contemplation where the words are begging to be read slowly and thoughtfully. Attentive and arresting musings on humanity and connection and what it means to share this life with others. The humor, gods the humor, is a steady pumping vein throughout supplying the reader with belly laughs and endearing eye rolls and a seat on the Attenborough as part of the crew.

That brings me to my next reflection - the characters. I am in awe of them, invested in their lives and feelings, proud of their growth, and in love with their essence. They are tangible and fallible and so damn funny. There is no way to read this duology and not become emotionally struck by their depth and realness. Characters are the heart of a great story. They hold the hands of readers and guide them, but JP’s characters do more than just guide you. They welcome you with open arms, share their beds and break bread with you. They include you in their inside jokes, tease you, and give you plenty of comforting embraces. They are friends and family and will forever have a place in my heart.

Somehow I have to wrap up this review and say farewell to this found family created through brilliancy and perseverance much like the characters exhibit themselves. Beyond the Bounds of Time is a book for readers that want to feel seen and be held, that crave a little carnage on the page while having a laugh a moment later. You want to cry and be surprised and enraged and contemplative? Read these books, friends! Seriously, go.read.them.

Resonant. Vulnerable. Hopeful.

Beyond the Bounds of Time is a crescendo of a conclusion to an epic adventure spanning time and galaxies. Sci-fi stories have a rhythm that can mesh so well with concepts of change and the “what if” type questions readers have for the future.

Without giving too much away, McDonald uses time as a character. An entity of sorts to this whole narrative. Showing up with its cyclical tendency and also its non-existence. A concept which is explored in each character through concepts of free will and predetermined destinies.

The crew's mission to reverse the damage caused by Madame Bleu is a daunting one, but they face it with unwavering courage and determination. Their bond grows stronger as they overcome obstacles together, reminding us of the power of connection in the face of adversity.

“Even damaged hearts shaped by pain can grow to tame the snarling horde. All we need is time. So maybe time isn’t so bad after all."

McDonald’s integration of biolife beyond simply just human species, using cultural diversity and biodiversity, is a refreshing addition to this duology. I was most drawn to the theme that sentience is a universal trait, humans do not have exclusive rights to possess a sense of awareness and consciousness. A reminder that more stories would do well to explore.

So many spaces in our day-to-day lives leave impressions and echoes. They usually fall on deaf ears, but sometimes, there are stories and moments that ripple through time. The messages beneath this narrative of the Gemarine Chronicles grow these roots. Bringing hope to bleak futures and awareness of the message that change begins with a choice.

Once again, thanks JP for allowing me the privilege of reading book 2 of the Gemarine series as an ARC.

This novel continues the adventures of Xan and his crew (which, if you’ve read the first book, you are well aware ends in a bit of a cliffhanger). However, the second book in the series has even more action, more love, more sadness, betrayal, unity, death, as well as new characters, creatures and tech. If you are a person who wears your heart on your sleeve, you may even shed a tear or two.

I loved how you really got to understand the minds of every crew member. There was a lot of character development and every person or creature truly serves a purpose. JP really does an excellent job of making you feel empathy, even for those you are not a fan of, and does a great job of explaining their histories so that you have a full understanding of what makes each MC tick and why they make the decisions they make. I get fully pulled into every world, every fight, and every love scene with total immersion.

I, personally, am a huge fan of Lilianna and really enjoyed seeing a little bit of a softer side to Juniper (though, do not worry, Juniper remains more badass than ever!) I also absolutely adored the introduction of Fleurah (the ultimate cross of Lilianna with Juniper, as far as badassery mixed with heart and appearance).

I highly recommend this series if you are a fan of space, spice, action, discovery, and just enjoy a good read that allows for an escape. I would love the series to continue and feel the possibilities truly are infinite with what direction the series could go.

Trigger warning: This book contains a lot of graphic action/violence/gore, graphic sex, vulgarity and LGBTQ+ relationships.

I don’t know how to review this one, perhaps I shouldn’t immediately after finishing. You know, when I feel like sobbing uncontrollably because an author has broken my heart, and because it’s finished… what will I do now?

I literally laughed out loud. I teared up. I got angry. This book makes you feel, the characters are so incredibly well established that they feel real. They’re flawed. They’re human (or.. not) and you feel so emotionally invested in their growth.. and grow they do.

None of this even touches on the actual plot, and there is an incredibly good one. At times I was on the edge of my seat, my eyes rushing forward down the page needing to know what was happening faster than my eyes could get me there.

Sci fi isn’t my go to genre, but JP explained things so well I didn’t feel lost. There was some spice, which kept my smut lovers heart happy and lots of humour.

For anyone who loves stories of characters taking on quests to save the world, you’ll love this one. And you’ll probably cry. But you’ll be happy you cried.. maybe.

I am so attached to Xan, Juniper, and Lilliana- I feel like I am part of their inner circle while between these pages. My only critique is that I was not able to get nearly as invested in some of the newer characters introduced in this book. I love the diversity, emphasis on ecological balance, and range within this book. Dope read.

Beyond the Bounds of Time is a phenomenal sequel to Beyond Forsaken Worlds. Part time travel voyage and part found family story, it reads like an R-rated Guardians of the Galaxy with a time travel flair. Poignant and heart-wrenching prose is balanced by friendly banter and raunchy quips. While the book gets spicy in a few chapters, the novel's emphasis is on conservation, love (both romantic and familial), and loss.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun time travel story with lovable but flawed characters and a dash of spice.

In this second and final piece of the Gemarine Chronicles, Xan, Juniper, Liliana and their motley crew of chosen family begin the journey tasked at the cliffhanger of book 1, Beyond Forsaken Worlds. Without giving away any spoilers, I'll confirm that it's an absolutely EPIC ride with conclusions I never saw coming!

The character development of not only the 3 leads, but the supporting characters (both good and bad) was incredible. I felt every twist and turn they took as a stab in the chest, never knowing what would happen next. Some unexpected favourites for me were Ryker, Sythkin and Arcadie, although Qilin is in a realm of her own!

As I read the final few chapters, the whirlwind of emotions hit me like a truck; joy, anger, sadness, shock and then finally, a deep contemplation. The Author has created such an epic parallel to some of the issues of the human race that its a poignant reminder that the Earth is not infinite or indestructible.

Thank you again to @jpmcdonaldwrites for the ARC and congratulations on this book publishing today 🥳 You deserve all the praise and recognition on completing such an epic duology.

Once again this author has brought to life a story that is beautiful and woven it into a story that is more akin to the sci-fi tropes we know. Bring us a sci-fi with a difference.
There is a battle to save the Universe and this is a struggle that is complex and violent at times. But on the other side this is a story of friendship, of learning to trust those we might not think we can and learning to get to know others and not be brainwashed into believing something that may not be true.

This is a complex story, traveling through multi times and to different worlds. There are new characters to get to know and love as well as the originals. Through these journeys through time, we get to know the original characters on a much deeper level. Thus they develop even more through the course of the story.
There are some surprises along the way that go along with the theme, not all is what it seems.
All the emotions are triggered during this story. It does come to a satisfying conclusion but I do hope we get to find out what the future has in store for these characters.

JP never lets me down!

I have had the privilege of ARC reading every one of JP’s books and I will forever be grateful. There is something about his writing that is completely and utterly captivating. He has a brilliant way of drawing you in and keeping you interested without going into extreme detail. I also had a lot of moments in this book that made me laugh out loud.

Beyond the Bounds of Time is simply amazing. What I really appreciate about this book is that the dialogue feels so genuine, especially when it comes to the witty banter and inner thoughts. There were times when I forgot that the book was fiction. It whole heartedly sucked me in. And while I would love to visit these characters again, I feel like the story left no loose threads.

Honestly I can never say enough good things about JP and his writing.

I've been at a loss on how to review this book for months. I've seen these words from their inception and watched how each draft flourished, how the characters made mistakes and grew from them, how the plot became more intricate, how the prose became more achingly beautiful.

This book is filled with raw emotion masked by a time traveling space mystery. Many of the conversations are real, filled with tension and passion and truth, where at times it was difficult for me to continue without being swept away in a tidal wave of emotion myself.

I could go on about this duology, and particularly this ending, for days. To end a story of friendship and love is painful and difficult as a writer, but JP did it with the unique style he's known for: gorgeous prose, emotional goodbyes, and heartfelt glimmers of hope for the future.

"Too often fear of the unknown kept curious hearts docile, accepting a fate much less than what was deserved."

"Love was more than an idealistic picture of happiness, more than a symbolic heart plastered above smiling faces like a halo of perfection. Love was also the darkness, the shadows that prowler when the tears came fast. Love was the perpetual storm hunting a rainbow. Love was the mending of a broken soul, as long as you had the strength to build again."

"But wasn't that the crux of love? Vertigo inducing, altering the physiology, a maelstrom of madness swallowing us whole."

"Love is more than a feeling. It is the energy that propels us into the fire despite knowing the consequence of getting burnt."

The ending of this book left me sobbing uncontrollably.. I remember it was just after midnight, it was cold and raining outside. I was snuggled in bed and i felt like my heart was breaking into a thousand pieces.

Once again JPs Lyrical prose was on point! And hit me with all the feels. I was either crying tears of happiness or heartbreak or laughing out loud at the witty banter between the characters.

But what I found stood out the most while reading, is that the descriptions in this book are a fucking masterpiece! They were so vivid and beautifully written that I honestly felt like I was really there climbing up the side of a cliff or floating through a graveyard of spaceships or on the bloodsoaked battlefield fighting for my life.

Everything about this book was amazing, from the complex character development, a plot that sucks you in where you struggle to put the book down, and just a little bit of spice to keep you satisfied but yet doesn't overwhelmed or take away from the story.

This is definitely a 5 star read for me.. and I loved every moment ♡

And im beyond greatful that I was given the opportunity to arc read this beautiful piece of literature.

A unique story about love and friendship

You'll love this duology!

Me applying for a job on the Attenborough: "My name is Emilia, I have a master's degree in Biology (true story!), passion for working with people/ aliens and animals and a good sense of humor. Also, I'm specialized in decoding (STFUATTDLAGG! - easy-peasy!). I know you'll find me helpful in your cute little team!"

💫 The second book in "The Gemarine Chronicles" continues the adventure of our beloved and unique group of friends, embarked on a mission to save the Universe and their new home planet from the genocide caused by one evil woman (hate her!).
💫 Will they succeed, will the changes lead to large scale variation in the future, will their sacrifice have an effect or everything will have been in vain?!

💫 We have new friends, new foes, betrayal, heartwarming gestures made by the most unexpected people, vengeance.
💫 They all wish to be seen, to belong in a family/group. In the end, we'll learn that love is the answer and that it's the quintessence of life.

💫 Thoughts:

✨ This book is so funny, it cracked me up! We have some new characters that don't understand humour, insinuations and sarcasm and somethimes I felt like watching a Mr. Bean show. 😂😂😂
✨ The romance bookworm in me really enjoyed Chapter 20 and 29. 😉
✨ While reading I was put through all the feelings you can experience: happiness, calm, hope, amusement, admiration, empathy, satisfaction, anger, sadness, fear, anxiety, frustration, hurt, hate, despair. This duology has it all!
✨ J.P. does it again, with his lyrical writing style, he made me see more clearly, in my imagination, the world he painted (loved the descriptions and introspections).
✨ I liked the pragmatic part of the book, in which the biggest threats to the environment are exposed: consumerism, destruction of ecosystems due to uncontrolled exploitation of the planet's resources, waste of resources, pollution, climate change, extinction.
✨ Xan is so bad a$$, Juniper is a warrior princess, Lilianna, she's the good girl with a heart of gold, Dallis is moonstruck (I find this so cute!), Ryker is the brother I never had and Qilin is the epitome of cuteness (I love her so much!!!). ❤️❤️❤️
✨ The epilogue ruined my make-up, it has so wholesome.

In the end here's my two cents. It's called "How to reduce your Ecological Footprint"
🌍 Reduce your use of disposable plastic
🌍 Switch to renewable energy
🌍 Eat less meat
🌍 Reduce waste - Recycle
🌍 Drive less
🌍 Reduce waste and electric energy use (Slay those energy vampires 🦇 the human ones and the household items!)
🌍 Support local

✨ P.S: To all my fellow Gemarinians, see you at Fusion! 😉🥳☺️

"Love is not some fickle thing. Love is mine and I can give it to whoever I want. I choose you!" 🫠
"When we can save a species, when we can give them a voice where others otherwise there is silence- it repairs the broken threads of the heart that I gave the others." 🌍

This book was the perfect conclusion to the duology. JP’s knack for good prose continued from the first book and the plot from the first book was excellently executed into a well rounded story through this book. We got to see more character POV’s including Juniper’s arc that I absolutely adored. The found family from the first book morphed beautifully in this one and we got to experience stronger bonds, and appreciate everyone’s dynamics more. A few twists occurred that had me cursing JP but it was necessary to the story and evoked so much emotion from me. I can appreciate that from a reader and author POV. The action in this second installment also felt very engaging and never dull.

Also my dearest smut friends—it’s SPICY!! The first book had a little spice, but this one had a bit more that I really appreciated and enjoyed.
