Crossing Lines

Rate this book
A “what if ” novel about destiny, fate, and chance.

Katherine got pregnant in high school, an unhappy and unexpected development in her small conservative town. Then again, maybe she didn’t get pregnant after all—the plot between her philandering egg and her boyfriend’s promiscuous sperm could have just as easily been foiled, or at least thickened in a cruel twist of fate. And the foiled plot makes all the difference.

Crossing Lines alternates between two parallel but divergent storylines, showing the dramatic path teenage Katherine’s life takes depending on whether she gets pregnant, or not. A “what if” novel about destiny, fate, and chance.

This novel mostly switches between perspectives of Katherine and Kate - the same girl in alternate universes, one involving a teen pregnancy and the other just a pregnancy scare. Based on this event, Katherine draws lines and Kate crosses them, leading to her life becoming immensely different while having many similarities. Due to fate? Destiny? I fell in love with this book in the 3rd chapter and it just continued to get better. The cross references between lives were brilliant and I was excited to make those connections throughout the entire novel. This is easily one of my favorite books, I feel I gained insight while getting to know Katherine and trying to understand the reasoning behind everything she/Kate did. In real life, I have little knowledge on either type of lifestyle she lived so I was intrigued to explore them both! Definitely worth the read!!

Such a good book! This book is written from two paths a young Mormon girls life could have gone. Kate leaves her small town and ends up in a wild life in Las Vegas and Katherine gets pregnant and stays in her small town. What I liked about this book is how even though there are the same things that happen it doesn’t feel like a repeat and actually there’s different information you get in the different version. By the end I was heartbroken at how Katherine’s life ends and how her love for Keith was so special. I won this book through a good reads giveaway and I enjoyed every page.

What a wonderful book. I received this novel as a Goodreads Giveaway (thank you!) and was not sure what to expect. The parallel stores of Katherine and Kate were excellent illustrations of choices, both macro and micro. The lives of these characters navigated highs and lows. This novel is as sweet as it is heartbreaking and as funny as it is frustrating. It was a pleasure to read.
