Regan had to find a husband! There were only five weeks before her twenty-fifth birthday, and by then she had to be married or she would lose the home she loved so dearly.
So when Keir Anderson turned up out of the blue--and out of her past--Regan asked him to marry her, as a temporary business arrangement.
He agreed, and they were married before Regan realized that Keir had no intention of sticking to the agreement. Six years earlier she had scornfully rejected him. Now the tables were turned, and he wanted his revenge!
Kay Thorpe was born on 1935 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, UK. An avid reader from the time when words on paper began to make sense, she developed a lively imagination of her own, making up stories for the entertainment of her young friends. After leaving school, she tried a variety of jobs, including dental nursing, and a spell in the Women's Royal Airforce from which she emerged knowing a whole lot more about life - if only as an observer.
In 1960, she married with Tony, but didn't begin thinking about trying her hand at writing for a living until she gave up work some four years later to have a baby, John. Having read Mills & Boon novels herself, and done some market research in the local library asking readers what it was they particularly liked about the books, she decided to aim for a particular market, and was fortunate to have her very first, completed manuscript accepted - The Last of the Mallorys, published in 1968. Since then she has written over seventy five books, which doesn't begin to compare with the output of some Mills & Boon authors, but still leaves her wondering where all those words came from.
Sometimes, she finds she has become two different people: the writer at her happiest when involved in the world of books and authors; and the housewife, turning her hands to the everyday needs of husband and son. Once in a while, she finds it difficult to step from one role to the other. She likes cooking, for instance, but she finds that it can be an irritating interruption when she's preoccupied with work on a novel, so the quality of her efforts in the kitchen tend to be a little erratic. She says, "As my husband once remarked, my writing gives life a fascinating element of uncertainly: one day a perfect coq au vin, the next day a couple of burned chops!"
Luckily Kay has daily professional help with her housework, and that leaves her time to indulge in her hobbies. Like many other Mills & Boon authors, she admits to being a voracious consumer of books, a quality she shares with her readers. She likes music and horseback riding, which she does in the countryside near her home. But her favorite hobby is travel - especially to places that will make good settings for her books.
Kay now lives on the outskirts of Chesterfield in Derbyshire, along with husband, Tony, and a huge tabby cat called Mad Max, her one son having flown the coop. Some day she'll think about retiring, but not yet awhile.
Dreary little tale of a MOC between a snobby heroine and a boy from the wrong side of the tracks hero. Hero had asked the heroine to marry him when she was 18. She laughed in his face. He made his fortune in Australia and is back six years later. The heroine needs to be married before she turns 25 in order to inherit her family manor. Hero agrees - but then demands a real marriage.
Heroine remains cold and aloof even after a night of hot sex. Hero leaves her the next day.
This is an HEA where I'm glad the hero is happy. But I wouldn't wish that heroine on anybody. She was selfish and a snob.
Well, my streak of enjoyable Kay Thorpe novels had to hit a clunker sooner or later, and this was it. Talk about unlikeable heroines--the snobby Sloan Ranger in this book had strung along and then cruelly rejected the working class hero six years before, when she was 18 and he was 24. Now she needs a favor and he goes along with it because it gives him a chance to pay her back. She's still a snob although she claims to have changed--and if you're an cold-hearted selfish twit at 18, chances are you're not gonna change that much ever. Some forced seduction scenes but oddly for 1981 very little heat and all fade to black. Probably hard to write hot sex scenes with such a cold-hearted heroine, I guess. I felt bad for the hero that he was still besotted and she caught him in the end. He deserved a HEA with any of the lovely ladies he met upon his move to Australia, but until one of them can save our Tam-Lin from his Fairy Queen, he's done for.
Almost 4.5 stars. This was a super angsty read, which I love. I also like a heroine who has flaws (in this case, she's a snob), especially combined with a hero who can't help but love her anyway. This lacked a few more scenes giving us a glimpse into the hero's feelings -- I would have liked seeing him react to her having an accident or something, because his feelings were a little too hidden -- you had to infer them from his actions. The ending also wrapped things up way too quickly -- in real life I don't think either of them would have thought those I love yous were believable. Still though, I enjoyed this one a lot for the serious angst.

I stopped reading as soon as I found out this stuck-up snob of a h turned down the H's first proposal because she didn't think the son of a postal worker was good enough for her! My dad was a postal worker, so that did it for me!
It may be just a novel but still, I say, "F--- you, bitch! You don't deserve a HEA!
This was depressing bc the h was awful!! She needed a lot more begging for redemption to the H from the moment she saw him again. How he could feel any love for her is beyond me. Author should have shown more of h's growing up and change early on.
i strongly dislike the heroine who's acting like a strong independent woman when she's nothing but bratty and snobbish. Only finished the book so it wouldn't stay in my TBR list.
Kay Thorpe is a new name to me and one I'll look for again. This book has tension between the him and her as they both tiptoe through their pride and hurt to find love together.
