Christopher Pike is the pseudonym of Kevin McFadden. He is a bestselling author of young adult and children's fiction who specializes in the thriller genre.

Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name.

McFadden was born in New York but grew up in California where he stills lives in today. A college drop-out, he did factory work, painted houses and programmed computers before becoming a recognized author. Initially unsuccessful when he set out to write science fiction and adult mystery, it was not until his work caught the attention of an editor who suggested he write a teen thriller that he became a hit. The result was Slumber Party (1985), a book about a group of teenagers who run into bizarre and violent events during a ski weekend. After that he wrote Weekend and Chain Letter. All three books went on to become bestsellers.

Titulo: La noche del vampiro
Autor: Christopher Pike
Motivo de lectura: Letras Macabras (Isla Macabra 2023)
Lectura / Relectura: Lectura
Mi edicion: Electronico
Puntuacion: 3.5/5

There has to be a story behind why spooksville is written in such a hilarious (ironic or non ironic it doesn’t matter) way. I was unfamiliar with the series before jumping in, expecting a late 90s goosebumps rip off, what I found was a group of kids who are the most effective and bloodthirsty violent pre teens ever encountered in horror. Every single time someone mentions vampires every member of the group asks to stake them and rip their hearts out or cut their heads off. They are by far the most intelligent and knowledgeable about ancient monsters than any other group in the genre. None of this prepares you though for this bit:

The kids cannot get holy water from their local priest because he was transformed into a Jewish rabbi when he turned down hearing confession from the town witch.

Immediate five stars, I will be attempting to collect the whole series now. Either pike was taking a piss with this or his publisher allowed him full creative control.

Question « horreur », j'ai trouvé que l'histoire était beaucoup mieux amenée à plusieurs niveaux.

This is one of the best books in the Spooksville saga, the story is compelling as the stakes this time get higher than in the other books. The backstory given to the villain makes it even more interesting and the fact that the villain plays the kids so well makes it better.

I remember this as one of my gateway books into horror and vampires. Accessible. Spooksville gang are great for younger readers. Would say I probably read this too young, but loved it regardless.
