Geneva Greyson #1

Searching the Skies

Rate this book
Commander Geneva Greyson has spent the past ten years focused on her career, moving up the ranks with the Terran military. Following a high-stakes mission on a planet filled with violent aliens, she struggles to fight her growing attraction to her fellow officer, Ash. She eventually gives in to temptation, but their time together is short-lived, as she is summoned home by her estranged parents.

The planet of Pasurea sits at the center of the Terran empire. It’s inhabited by the wealthiest and most influential residents of the galaxy, and the Greysons are no exception. In an effort to ease some of the awkwardness of their reunion, Geneva’s mother invites Marcus, her childhood friend who is now a successful businessman. Though he has been looking forward to seeing her again for the first time in nearly a decade, she is too angry at the circumstances that tore her away from her ship to reciprocate his efforts to rekindle their friendship. His persistence wins her over, however, and she enjoys his intimate company before returning to her post against her parents’ wishes.

Difficult decisions plague Geneva, and she believes she will never find a solution to her problems that will please everyone. Convinced she’s bound to disappoint at least one person, she plans to distance herself from those close to her. Before she can make her escape, Ash and Marcus conspire to present her with an enticing offer to continue seeing both of them romantically, but is it too good to be true?

I think this story was really well written, and the story flowed well. I enjoyed the characters Geneva, Ash and Marcus and film them easy to relate to in this story. Geneva and Ash start their relationship together until Geneva has to go home where she meets up with Marcus, whom she had previously had a friendship with but when she returns back to duty, she felt that she had to abandon her relationships. It’s only when Ash and Marcus put forward, the plan of being together in a ménage relationship that she can be happy again. There is a happy ending for all of these characters and a well rounded good story to enjoy.

"...we get to sit in meetings all day to talk about how wonderful we are, but how much..."

"...we get to sit in meetings all day to talk about how wonderful we are, but how much better we could have done.”

Geneva left home at 18 to make her own way. She sought independence, purpose... A life of helping others and actively doing things. But now, it seems, the time has come to pay the piper.

This done in one kindle unlimited story balances childhood fears, and expectations with the realities of adulthood. Add in the importance of true friends, loved ones who have your back, and the responsibility that comes with having power, and there is a lot in this quick read.

I hope this is one of many stories in this Universe as I enjoyed the world building and the characters.

This is a really great series! It's a bit different than the usual. Earth girl meets hunky alien dude with huge parts and cool universe's, is treated like a queen etc etc etc. Which I love don't get me wrong. Love me some Blue dude smutty lovin'. This is about Humans who have moved beyond earth and now inhabit the Universe and the planets they've colonized and the troubles faced. Specifically the (armed forces) I love Geneva and Ash!!! I love Marcus too but Ash is the bomb diggity! Hug, hunky and super funny. So I'm on book 3 now and it's still on the progression of these 3 and still very interesting and exciting. And the sex is pretty steamy too! There's no way I would give up all my crazy Alien books but this serious gets a 5 Star + from me!

With this book being my first foray into more mature literature, I was a little unsure what to expect. However, Thea Landen does a great job getting straight to the heart of things, but not so quickly as to make the reader feel they're being rushed.

I felt a nice balance had been struck between good descriptive storytelling and characterization. Thea Landen certainly has her own distinctive way of writing. You get a good feel for the characters in particular, their mannerisms and personalities being depicted well and it certainly wasn't too hard to see why Geneva has such a hard time with her parents.

The various action scenes throughout, from start to finish, are depicted well, being neither too graphic to put some of the more light-hearted readers off or overly descriptive and bogging readers down. It gets right to the point without forgetting there's a story to tell.

Overall, this book is something I would recommend to anyone! I'd like to read more from this author in future.
