This illuminating study enables the reader to better understand the vocation and message of an extraordinary prophet. The message Ezekiel delivered to the people of Babylon centered on the holiness of God. Even though he foretold doom and judgement, the prophet held out the promise of hope, based on the continuing mercy and forgiveness of God.Carrying forward brilliantly the pattern established by Barclay's New Testament series, the Daily Study Bible has been extended to cover the entire Old Testament as well. Invaluable for individual devotional study, for group discussion, and for classroom use, the Daily Study Bible provides a useful, reliable, and eminently readable way to discover what the Scriptures were saying then and what God is saying today.
This time period is pretty depressing in the history of Israel; but one of the major themes seems very relevant for today. One of Ezekiel's tasks was to shatter all of the false hopes that the exiles had in order to get them focused on the true hope that God had for them.
In the same way we need to tear down false hopes that are around today. For example an eight year old may believe that everyone goes to heaven when they die. If that's true, then why bother to follow Christ or share Christ with others? Only when we remove these false hopes, can we give others true hope through salvation in Christ.
This is an excellent book into the prophet Ezekiel. Scholars, pastors, and lay people alike will enjoy this commentary by the late terrific Old Testament scholar.
