A great book for anyone trying to understand and get started with social media. Most of the things in this book was not new information for me, it still provided great stories of how other churches used social media to expand. And especially for those wondering how great of a tool social media is, this book gives great basic and practical ways to really build on an online presence. It's a great guide book and a very quick, easy, and informative read.

Excellent reading for anyone who is using social media as a tool to communicate with any group. Most especially it is is useful for church leaders who really want to get beyond the four walls and being culturally relevant.

This book offers helpful advice in all areas "social media." It's geared for those relatively illiterate in social media and who are also involved in any capacity in ministry. Consider it a "primer," not an exhaustive encyclopedia. Because Terrace doesn't explore many of the philosophies underlying ministry use of social media (or even personal use of social media), this book may seem incomplete and shallow to some. It is helpful to remember that this book is a "brief overview" and a "practical guide" to social media; I think Terrace met his stated goal. At times the book tends to handle ministry pragmatically, almost as a business (using advertising terminology, for example), but this is probably the result of the book's purposely limited scope. It was a helpful read and I will keep it as a reference for the future.

Going Social is exactly what the subtitle of the book says: “a practical guide on social media for church leaders”. In short chapters, the most important social media are explained (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Blogs being the prominent ones – I was surprised to see Tumblr and Pinterest missing considering the rapidly growing popularity of these two) and opportunities are explored on how churches can use these. It's aimed at beginner's, experienced users of social media will find little new here. For a full review, see: http://www.youthleadersacademy.com/go...

I was given this book by a friend. There is a lot of good info here if you are new to social media. But, for the rest of us who have been using social networking sites for a long time, there isn't much new here. I would say that the book is targeted at church leaders who are trying to make the jump from "The internet is the devil" to "I suppose I better learn how use this thing."
