Despite the fact that it's hurricane season, Phoebe, Piper, and Paige decide to take a trip to the Sunshine State. After spending a few days at Phoebe's advice column seminar in Orlando, the Charmed Ones head a few miles north to pay a visit to Sharon Grant, Paige's best friend from college. They arrive just as a hurricane in South Florida changes course and starts heading toward them.
The three sisters soon discover that the dangerous storm isn't their only worry—it seems that Sharon has taken up practicing folk magic with a quirky neighbor who has an unhealthy obsession with Florida folklore. Aware that large storms can affect magic in mysterious and catastrophic ways, the Charmed Ones must batten down the hatches and convince their hostess and her friend to stop casting spells before they find themselves trapped in the eye of a real mess.

She also wrote the space opera The Alien Dark (1990), but was best known for her tie-in work for television properties including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Charmed, Star Trek and The Secret World of Alex Mack, among others.
She was also a prolific filk creator, winning Pegasus Awards in 1986 and ’94. Gallagher won a Hugo Award for Best Fan Artist in 1988 under the name Diana Gallagher Wu. She sometimes also wrote under the name Diana Burke.

This is one of the most enjoyable Charmed books I’ve read so far, despite it being slightly atypical in that there is no real adversary to battle — other than a hurricane. In that way it is both a vacation for the Charmed Ones and the reader. Though there is no Darryl in this entry, or Cole at this point, both of whom are always a plus, Leo regularly pops over to Florida from San Francisco where he is watching Wyatt while Piper and her sisters take a much needed vacation. Phoebe is attending a seminar about advice columns and it gives her an opportunity to mix work and pleasure by bringing along Piper and Paige.
We get some poolside fun right off the bat, easing us into Paige’s desire to see her old friend Sharon Grant before heading back home. Sharon’s husband Ben has written to Paige stating he’s worried about her, but isn’t specific in regard to the why. What no one knew until arriving in Orlando is that Hurricane George is slated to hit Florida, and though Sharon and Ben would seem out of harm’s way where they live, an old highway near there has a tragic history of attracting hurricanes. Paige quickly discovers that Sharon and Margaret are secretly into magic, and casting spells. Sharon has always been super competitive with Paige, which makes it difficult for Paige because she can’t really tell her about her new role in the Power of Three.
After Phoebe has a vision of Agnes lost in the approaching hurricane, the Charmed Ones’ vacation takes another unexpected turn when Sharon and Margaret, leery of Paige’s interest in their activities, cast a spell to keep Paige minding her own business. Unexpectedly, however, it affects not only Paige but also her sisters. Add to that Leo’s warning that severe storms can play very real and sometimes dangerous havoc with magic, and you have all the ingredients for a very nice entry in the book series based on the show.
This one has a lot of atmosphere and moves at a nice pace. The interactions feel like those in the show, and despite there being no particular evil to battle, it was extremely enjoyable as a light read, accomplishing exactly what it intended, which is to entertain. Fans of the show should really enjoy this one — just know going in there are no big battles or heavies, just a nice story. Great fun.

It was fun to see the sisters on vacation and one where there really didn't use any magic...very unusual for them. My scenes were the ones with Leo - I could just imagine his face when Piper wasn't acting like her usual self. The hurricane prep part was interesting to read, I never knew so much was required.
I think fans of the show will enjoy reading this book.

I enjoyed seeing the sisters in Florida, and seeing the non-touristy side of the state. It was interesting to see the sisters face folk magic as appose to their real magic

Season six setting with equal amount given to each sister.
Phoebe is being sent to an advice columnist seminar in Orlando by her boss, Elise. Piper is wanting to get away to give Leo some time with Wyatt as the baby only wants to be close to Mommy and she needs a vacation.
I can understand Piper on that...
Paige is going to visit her best friend from college, Sharon, and her husband, Ben. It is half social vacation and personal mission as Ben says he needs some help with a situation involving Sharon.
At what a time too as a hurricane is going to hit Florida and do some damage now that it is changing course to hit a few miles north of Orlando...right where Ben and Sharon live. They have two elderly neighbors, a widow named Agnes who lives with her poodle, Poncho, and a retired schoolteacher named Margaret who is very big into the folklore of Florida.
To Ben's ire, Sharon has given up her hobby of pursuing art as a career to doing folk magic. It starts with remedies and homemade rodent repellent, but it is all that Sharon can think about and she uses it for everything. Having moved to Florida with Ben's busy real estate job, Sharon needed something to occupy her time but not in the way her husband imagined.
Listening to an old woman who believes in magic?
Paige can't very well have her and her sister reveal that they are actual powerful witches and not "dabbling" in spells. Leo also has some advice for the Charmed Ones: do not do magic during powerful storms as it can cause them to backfire.
Paige is having to feign ignorance of magic to try and convince Sharon as well as Margaret not to trust in "folk magic". It is difficult because Sharon won't leave Paige alone with Ben to talk behind her back as well as chastising her friend for not believing.
Phoebe becomes close with Agnes, if not her dog, so she is rather shaken when she has visions around the woman. Saving Poncho from being lost in the swampy woods, Phoebe grabs his collar and finds that the hurricane will be at the strongest level of the scale. Helping her to clear out junk in the garage to prepare, Phoebe finds a picture of Agnes' late husband, Frank where touching it gives her the most painful vision.
The vision has Agnes holding Poncho and both of them disappearing into the storm...Phoebe has just seen the old woman's death!
Piper is getting a little homesick for Leo and Wyatt at the threat of the hurricane growing stronger, possibly afraid she might not see them again. Keeping a close eye on Margaret to see if she has any special "preparations" for the storm, Piper uses her freezing power to keep the older woman from being flattened by a forklift at a home goods store. Margaret is deaf but has been using a salve to bring it down to only hard of hearing levels and has no idea Piper as a real witch saved her bacon.
Pretending to sneak downstairs for a midnight snack, Paige overhears Sharon and Margaret talking after all of them have taken shelter in the Grant household. Paige earlier found Sharon's hidden stash of herbs and magical ingredients and that every magic talisman Ben got rid of has been remade.
Couldn't happen at a worst time because the two women are in the middle of casting a spell which will keep Paige out of their business. Unfortunately, it goes awry and all three of the Charmed Ones are infected by the spell just as the eye of the storm is getting ready to pass over their very location!
Phoebe becomes obsessed with answering letters for her column instead of revealing her vision of Agnes as their innocent in danger while Piper is more concerned with getting home to her son and husband. Paige is compelled to be on Sharon's side and to do The Power of Three could be a catastrophe!
Hexed once again due to miscommunication, Leo may be the only one to get through to the sisters now...
Slightly amusing but this was done so much better as a Season 5 episode.
I didn't hate Hurricane Hex, but I didn't love it enough to find it amazing. Setting it during a hurricane wasn't actually a great plot idea either. To have a magical disaster strike the same time as a natural one was the one thing I didn't find amusing.

Refreshing difference in this one. When I read the synopsis I was a bit hesitant about the lack of any actual ‘bad guy’ but the storyline was great which a few new characters you could really get to know. Was a shame Leo had a fairly small part though.

Beginner witches are working against the Halliwells while spells being chaotically misdirected due to an incoming hurricane and an innocent needs saving? This story is truly charmed-like chaotic.

I really liked this book, it had a lot of great details and gives you a great idea about the hurricanes in Florida. Great story, as are al the other Charmed stories.
