Having previously worked for Rogers Communications, I read the book out of general interest and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Ted Rogers, a powerful name, but his story showed that he didn't accomplish what he did easily. He was relentless and I grew to respect him more as a man rather than 'that guy who pays me'.

He had concerns, ambitions, pit-falls, and dreams like every one else. I was especially impressed with his sense of humour and how he was able to tell of his many accomplishments without grandeur, which made me admire him so much more. It made him more human to me and I'm glad to have read it before his passing.

He sounded like a marvellous man; may he rest in peace.

As the Globe's newly minted telecommunications reporter, I really enjoyed this biography of the late founder of Rogers Communications. There were some fantastic anecdotes and a good general synopsis of how the telecommunications industry has evolved in Canada. It helped to inform my perspective on the sector and I enjoyed the bits about Ted's personal life, including his budding romance with Loretta and his health struggles, as well.

It was interesting and sad to read about a man that was so driven to avenge those that had taken away his fathers business and to bring dignity back to the Rogers name. A lot of name dropping and business details but also some excitement in his "riverboat gambler" approach to business. If you like to read about individuals that are driven, or obsessed, to succeed in business, this might be the book for you.
