Book one in the Out of Time Series Moments before her death, medieval history student Lilly Marten mysteriously arrives in the year 1503, where soldier Gabriel Sutherland has been expecting her arrival. Standing on the battlements of a 16th century Keep was the last place Gabriel Sutherland should be. Then again, being ‘shifted’ to 1503 seconds before a rocket blew his ass to bits wasn’t something he had envisioned either. Still, he was surviving the only way he knew how, as a soldier. Then Lilly arrived. Sweet, innocent Lilly. For a genetically superior soldier whose life had entailed of nothing but serving King and country, the arrival of Lilly proves too much for Gabe to ignore. For the first time in his life, Gabe can have a woman of his own and Lilly is the one. Lilly Marten lives alone, her quiet life the result of a highly sensitive photographic memory. That changed when she arrived in the year 1503 seconds before Toronto’s popular C.N Tower came crashing down on top of her. Now she was never alone. Gabe was always near. With his unbelievably perfect features and intense green eyes, he is not a man easily ignored. Yet, uncertainty about her new life leaves Lilly with no choice but to put faith in a man she fears and whose strong physical presence causes her to desire more than just his trust.
My name is Nancy Adams. I am a full-blooded Canadian, right down to the maple syrup running though my veins. I enjoy watching hockey but despise skating...and the cold. I enjoy a good helping of Tourtiere with a side of Poutine as much as the next person, yet I am only bilingual when it comes to swear words. I have three small - but legal - addictions: bed linens, lavender and books. All of which are replenished on a regular basis. I don't show favoritism towards any one genre, I like them all and when writing I just go with the flow write what I want to write.
This time travel novel has it all!! No Matter When has the past, present and future; love, hate and friendship; and a well thought out plot that is developed beautifully. What more could you ask for?
In the future, there's a technology that can be used for good or evil. If used properly, it can save lives. If it falls into the wrong hands, it can be used to change the future and for other wicked pursuits. Now five people, from different walks of life and times, are in a race to save the past and the future.
Lilly’s whole world changed the moment her mother died. In an instant, her foundation was demolished and she was left alone. In the accident that took her mother from her, Lilly gained something she was ill prepared for, a photographic memory. At a young age, she must learn to cope with her new ability. She tells the one person she thinks may understand and help her through this problem, but he's unable to comprehend the situation and abandons her. This event forms her present existence. She works hard to not reveal her ability and in turn, she's introverted and unable to trust anyone ever again.
Gabriel's an advanced human. He's the product of science in a time where genetic impurities and disease have been systematically removed from human genes. Gabriel is a soldier to which all future soldiers will be compared. Unfortunately, he's killed before his time. Now he lives in Scotland in the year 1503, along with three other men. Two of the men are from the past and a fellow soldier from his time. None of them know why they were sent to this particular place in time, but from the moment Lilly arrives, everything begins to change.
Finally, all the pieces are in order. The professor responsible for their time travel has revealed the reason for their continued existence. What may have started out as an experiment on his part now has a purpose. The five of them must work together to thwart a conspiracy. Along the way, they also find friendship and love.
This story may be about the blossoming romance between Gabriel and Lilly, but I truly believe the underlining message is of loyalty and friendship. These five people were sent to the past for reasons unknown to them. They bonded over the hardships and the commonality of their situations. No Matter When is so much more than a romance.
Lilly and Gabriel are two people who are astonishingly different, but at the same time amazingly similar. I enjoyed reading their adventure and how they grew as people. It was not an easy road for them, but I’m glad I was able to read about how they eventually came together.
No Matter When appears to be book one in the series, Out of Times. Beyond that, I have absolutely no idea what will happen next in this series or when. I found very little information on Ms. Adams and her books. I have noted this talented author and I plan to keep a look out for her future works and the next book in this exciting new series. She's written an amazing tale, captivating characters and a promising universe.
There's no time like the present to experience No Matter When. This is a riveting novel that will take you back in time, make you contemplate the present and question the future. It’s not to be missed!
Wonderful. Loved the time travellers being pulled from different periods, particularly the super soldiers in the 1500. Wished there was a continuation I could read right now
In her latest book, Ms. Adams offers a little something to every reader through a story dealing with themes raging from sci-fi to time travel to futuristic. While this makes for an intriguing read that keeps you guessing it does lead to a bit of confusion at times as the story moves from one fantastical element to the next. Thankfully, even when I'm confused, there's a cast of characters that are likable and keep me invested in the outcome of the story.
Lilly has felt lost and alone since the death of her mother and has been waiting for death. The bombing of the place she works gives her what she wants until she wakes up during medieval times after being rescued by the sexy and heroic Gabe who's immediately drawn to her but has secrets of his own. Lilly discovers she's a pawn in a futuristic plan to kill those in power during this time period which puts her in close proximity to the mysterious Gabe and have her rethinking a future she never thought she'd have. Lilly is sweet and loyal but naive and flighty when she gets lost in her thoughts. She engenders feelings of protectiveness in all the men brought back in time and this had me wishing I was in here place.
Gabe comes from a time in the future where genetic enhancements are the norm which has made him a super soldier. His senses are enhanced and he's looked up to as what every soldier aspires to be. He thinks nothing of his abilities though beyond what Lilly will feel when she discovers the truth about him. He's a quiet man immediately drawn to Lilly who wants nothing more than to keep her safe and make her happy. Gabe is the perfect romantic hero saying all the right things and burning up the sheets with the unworldly Lilly.
The author realistically and vividly depicted medieval times to draw you into the story early on. The reason for bringing these individuals back in time results in bigger truths being revealed that lead to ramifications for the future. The sci-fi part of the story is intriguing but feels separate from the character's time in the past and will make for a thrilling basis for any future stories. The secondary characters are immensely likable with their brotherly interactions and I long to see more of them in the future. From start to finish this is a story full of intriguing themes and a sweet and sexy romance between a perfectly matched couple and fans of many genres will be drawn to it.
I bought this book because I was intrigued by the synopsis. Romance, Time Travel, Futuristic, Historical.. and an interesting plot. It was original, which is hard to find, well written and kept my interest throughout. I really, really wanted to know what would happen to the hero, heroine and some of the supporting characters.
Time travel is a really difficult genre to write. Its so easy to screw up the time-lines. I had no issues with this one, at least there was nothing glaringly wrong.
I loved this book it was full of an interesting story Gabe was lovely protective and alpha but not over baring and Lilly was vulnerable but not week and the other characters in the story made you realise how much you care for them to , so I really Enjoyed this book great read
