Change the World 9 to 5. 50 Actions to Change the World at Work by Steve Henry

Rate this book
Most of us spend most of our waking lives working. And how we feel about it is important. Change The World 9 To 5 imagines the best possible working environment - the best way to spend our 9 to 5 - not just to change the world but also to make everyone happier. So how do we do that? There are surprisingly small differences we can all make - if every office worker wasted just one less staple, for instance, we'd save 88 tonnes of steel every year. This book is full of simple, everyday actions that almost anyone can do during the working day. It begins with Action 51, picking up where the bestselling Change The World For TenBucks left off, and gives inspiring but practical tips on how to change your world. Actions range from more familiar habits, like 'Recycle waste paper' to less conventional ones, like 'Bring your kids into work for the day'. No tips are too small ('Smile when you answer the phone') because they often have far-reaching consequences. As with Change the World for Ten Bucks, this book has been created by writers, illustrators, designers, photographers and researchers who have donated their time and talents. Money raised from book sales is used to develop other We Are What We Do initiatives in Australia and around the world.

The author should be proud of the fact that quite a few of these concepts have been acted on (less disposable cups) or are part of everyday consciouness for a lot of people. A good reminder of how to make a difference to our worlds and the planet.

A fun and quick read which didn't really do much for me because: (a) I no longer work in an office, hallelujah!; and (b) I already do a lot of the things suggested in the book. So I passed it on to my best friend who's a manager at a charity, where perhaps some of the ideas will find some ground. I did like the sheet of gold star stickers though. :)
