“Micah” by Dale Ralph Davis is part if the EP Study Commentary series, where ch is designed for serious students and casual students alike. There was s much here to commend this commentary series in general.

This particular commentary is a particular standout, because the author, Davis is a gifted commentator, expositor, and incisive writer. His writing combines the force of the original Hebrew language, along with the withering message of judgment, and the graceful message of hope, that combines in the prophetic utterances of the prophet Micah. Davis is simply a keen observer, and he writes in such an accessible style, that one forgets that this is a commentary.

Micah was from southwestern Judah, and he ministered in the eighth century BC. He warned a judgment to both the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah, but he did so in the context of hope for the remnant of God, premised on the covenant love and faithfulness of Yahweh

this would be an excellent book for personal study, group Bible study, and the foundation for a great teaching series. This is not a sterile academic study. One can readily read Micah’s prophecies and understand their applicability even in the present day. Of course, that is what happens when the ultimate author, the Holy Spirit of God, who is the infinite unchangeable, all knowing God, writes a book, and preserves it for our benefit. Happy reading!
