And so we move to the last few books of the holiday read for this years get away to the coast. This was another one of those unexpected and unprepared discoveries in an out of the way antique book and collectables shop.
Like the previous edition it is a science fiction yarn woven around a series of pictures. IF you enjoy the artists (and there are a number of them) then you will enjoy the book as there are lavish full page images well presented along since the story/
As with previous instalments there are elements of having the justify the selection on artwork even if rather elaborate and incredible - however if you enjoy the work of Ellis, Peters and Angus then this book is a treat in its own right
The book is nothing trailblazing as there were a number of books of this style on sale in the 80s where a theme and a loose story was used to explain the editors choice of favourite images which otherwise would never see the light of day (unless you were lucky enough to find them adorning the covers your latest book - which is where I recognise many of the pieces in this book).
Some of the other "Galactic Encounters" books stretch the conceit too far, but this one is nicely done. The adventures of the law-enforcement authorities in a far-flung galactic federation, illustrated with some very nice science fiction art from a variety of artists and sources.
