The Henry Morris KJV Study Bible is an invaluable apologetic Bible study tool for the defense of the Christian faith, including biblical creationism, that highlights the foundational truths of Genesis found in all the other 65 books of the KJV Bible. The comprehensive apologetic study bible notes provide answers to questions related to doctrinal issues, as well as scientific matters, such as geology, earth history, astronomy, biology, and other sciences. Books whose authorship is merely uncertain should be attributed to Unknown.
Dr. Henry M. Morris, founder of the Institute for Creation Research (ICR), is considered by many to be the “father of modern creation science.” He authored over 60 books in his lifetime, the most influential of which was the 1961 magnum opus, The Genesis Flood, co-authored with Dr. John Whitcomb. In the Introduction to The Henry Morris Study Bible, he testifies that over 60 years of daily Bible study resulted in “a deep and settled conviction, stronger every year, that the Bible is indeed the very Word of the living God. Its histories are authentic, its science is accurate and far in advance of its times, its practical wisdom for daily living is unexcelled, and its insights into the human heart are profoundly perfect for every need. Furthermore, its own internal structures, as well as the claims of its authors, provide endless evidences of its divine inspiration to all who study it with open mind and heart.”
The Henry Morris Study Bible is the result of those 60-odd years of daily Bible study. This annotated Bible contains over 10,000 comprehensive study notes, an index to major topics, an introduction to each book of the Bible, full color maps, a concordance, and 22 total appendices.
The appendices are outstanding, spanning almost 100 pages and touching on such topics as Bible-Believing Scientists of the Past, Fulfillment of Biblical Prophecies, The Deity and Resurrection of Christ, The Creationist faith of Our Founding Fathers, Creation versus Evolution as Worldviews and a Creationist’s Defense of the King James Bible. The latter appendix is one of the most compelling and cordial defenses of the King James I’ve ever read and provides ample explanation as to why this study Bible is only released in the Authorized Version. Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the appendices published as a stand-alone reference.
To those who own The Defender’s Study Bible and wish to know how it compares to the Henry Morris Study Bible, this work includes a new appendix, Addressing Alternate Explanations for Age of the Earth, including notes on theistic evolution, progressive creation, the day-age theory and the gap theory.
The Introduction to this study Bible gives several good reasons why you ought to use the Henry Morris Study Bible. I’ll give you an additional one. The Bible I preach from was handed down to me from my father. It’s a Schofield Reference Bible. As many of you know, the Schofield’s notes promoted the gap theory. While I like to point out that the notes and commentaries in your Bible are not inspired, only the words of Scripture are inspired and inerrant, those notes and commentaries are nonetheless influential in shaping our worldviews and our approach to Biblical interpretation. I believe The Henry Morris Study Bible provides insight that is more faithful to the original intent and meaning of Scripture and is destined to help shape, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, a worldview and exegetical approach that results in a “deep and settled conviction, stronger every year, that the Bible is indeed the very Word of the living God.”

I am always a bit hesitant to review a Bible. It is God’s Word and inerrant, not much to review. With Bible reviews I look at the commentary and explanations that make this Bible unique.
So who is Henry Morris anyway? The front of this Bible says he is the ‘Father of Modern Creationism’. He is the founder and former president of the Institute for Creation Research. A respected ministry leader, educator and scientist with over 60 years of experience in defending the Christian faith. Sounds like good credentials to me!!
One of the most distinct features is ‘an uncompromising commitment to literal biblical creationism’. It in other words defends the literal 6 days of creation in its annotations.
Much research and years of studying has helped Dr. Morris share with us his insights into some of the difficult passages in the word. Praying that his explanatory notes will help the readers better defend the literal words of the Bible to a lost world.
Each book of the Bible is given an introduction as well as an authorship page to give the reader more insight into the times and author of the book. Of course these authors wrote as inspired by the Holy Spirit and not of men.
This is a very thorough study bible in the King James version. I realize that often times the King James can be more difficult to read and understand, but I actually was pleased that Dr. Morris chose this version as it is more closely related to the original text in my opinion. It may not be the version you carry to church with you each Sunday and Wednesday if your pastor reads from NIV or another version, but it is a good one to delve deeper into the Word with.
Weighing in at nearly 4 pounds this Bible is not the kind you carry in your back pocket to pull out for quotes J Fantastic Bible to sit on the table for devotions each morning. Grab those highlighters and pen and utilize this study Bible each morning. It will truly bless your day!

About the Author: A prolific and influential scholar known to believers and skeptics alike as "the father of modern creation science," Dr. Henry M. Morris truly was a man of science and a staunch man of God. He was even said to have set the terms of debate about evolution for the second half of the 20th century by one Pulitzer Prize-winning academician. Dr. Morris began his serious study of the Bible in the 1930s and authoring books in the 1940s, but it was his landmark work, co-authored with Dr. John Whitcomb, titled The Genesis Flood in 1961 that influenced generations to begin discovering the fallacies of evolution and the biblical truth of creation.
My Thoughts About The Bible: I have had the distinct privilege and joy of being able to read and review several different copies of the Bible, each similar in that they are the Word of God, but yet very different in their versions (KJV, NIV, NLT, ESV and others) as well as their purpose. Some have been study type Bibles and other more devotional in composition.
When it comes to explaining and defending the Biblical revelation concerning God's creation of all that is and then all that followed after his creative work, Dr. Henry Morris has done a stellar job in the writing of his Study Bible. There are thousands of notes throughout the entire Bible clearly explaining what the Word of God means in a clear and concise manner. Though Dr. Morris was a scholar he wrote so that any and all could understand what the Bible says and means when it comes to such topics as the Creation, the fall of man, the birth of the nation of Israel and so on. His Bible is a delight to read and study as it is provides significant insights concerning a whole host of Biblical topics such as the ones I have already mentioned as well as many more.
And as if his notes were not sufficient enough to aid the student of the Bible at any level of understanding grow in their knowledge of God and his Word; at the back of his Bible he provides an "Index To Major Topics In Annotations" to make it easier to locate Scriptures that relate to particular topics in his Bible such as Abaddon, Angels, Atonement, Baptism, Christ, Creation, Grace, Heaven and Hell, Grace and Law, The Apostle Paul, The Resurrection, Salvation, Scriptures, Sin, The Tribulation, Worship and many more - too numerous to mention them all. And after the index there is the section of his Bible referred to as "Appendices" which has 21 different appendices about important matters of our faith such as Appendix 1 that reveals to us facts that relates to the "Authenticity of Biblical Text," or Appendix 2 "Creation versus Evolution in Worldview," Appendix 8 "Science and the Scriptures," Appendix 13 "Fulfillment of Biblical Prophecies," Appendix 15, "The Deity of Christ" and sixteen others. After the Appendices you will find a thorough and helpful Concordance with the last part of his bible being beautiful full-color maps.
If you are a serious student of the Bible and have a particular interest in Creation versus Evolution, the Existence of God, or any other matters that pertain to being able to contend for and defend the faith once delivered to all the saints and be able to "give a reason of the hope that is within you," you will find the Henry Morris Study Bible to be invaluable - a Bible I am sure you will both read and refer to often in your study of God's Word.

One of the newest study Bibles to make an appearance in Christian bookstores around the world is The Henry Morris Study Bible published by Master Books. This Bible comes in two “flavors,” hardcover and black genuine leather. The review copy I worked with was the hardcover edition. Let me begin by weighing in on the Bible’s physical characteristics.
The Henry Morris Study Bible is no mere pocket Bible. It’s quite hefty, weighing in at around 4 pounds and measuring approximately 9.5 x 6.9 x 2.3 inches. It has many of the features you would expect to find in a study Bible of this size, including: *a presentation page *a births / adoptions record (Truth be told, Master Books should consider expanding the birth / adoptions section to 2-4 pages or offer an optional insert for us homeschooling families who have already exceeded the 5 spaces allotted.) *2 ribbon markers (one for Old Testament and one for New Testament) *a Smith-sewn binding *extra sturdy pages (not sure on the paper thickness, but much sturdier than some of my other study Bibles)
Once you crack open the cover and move past the title page, one of the first things you’ll encounter is the introduction to the study Bible. Here Dr. Morris explains some of his motivations behind and goals for this work:
“Its annotations explain the Bible’s difficult passages, resolve its alleged contradictions, point out the evidences of its divine origin, confirm its historical accuracy, note its remarkable anticipations of modern science, demonstrate its fulfilled prophecies and in general remove any doubts about its inerrancy, its authority and its ability to meet every human need.” (p. iv)
“an uncompromising commitment to literal biblical creationism.” (p. iv)
“Based on this literal and contextual approach, the notes become what one might call Baptistic in ecclesiology, pre-millennial in eschatology, non-charismatic in pneumatology, and moderately Calvinistic in soteriology.” (p. v)
The biblical text of The Henry Morris Study Bible is based on the King James Version. Dr. Morris touches on this briefly in the introduction to the Old Testament stating, “no English translation of the Bible is perfect (though it is my conviction that the so-called King James Version comes closest to that ideal).” (p. 1) The reasoning behind the choice of the KJV is further explored further in Appendix 21. A Creationist’s Defense of the King James Bible. Each of the biblical books is preceded by a 1-2 page introduction discussing the book’s authorship and relevant theological concerns. There are numerous study notes throughout. What I especially appreciated about the study notes is that I found them to be both sufficiently technical and very readable. Once you’ve worked your way through the entire Old Testament and New Testament, moving past the book of Revelation, there are few more gems worth noting. They are:
*Index to Major Topics in Annotations *Concordance *8 Maps *22 Appendices
All things considered, Master Books has put together a very high quality study Bible. The hardcover edition is quite sturdy and should hold up for years of good use. When it comes to study Bibles, my preference is for a leather binding, so in this case, I think the genuine leather edition is well worth the price of the upgrade. I know for some, the KJV text is going to be a sticking point. I tend to be more of an ESV man myself, but I didn’t actually have a printed KJV Bible in my personal library, so for me The Henry Morris Study Bible is a welcome addition. Moving beyond the translation concern, I think The Henry Morris Study Bible is worth the asking price for the study notes and appendices alone. The fact that it comes aligned with the KJV text is a bonus. Every home would benefit from having a copy of The Henry Morris Study Bible for reading and reference in their family library. If you’re passionate about biblical creation and the authority of Scripture, this is the Bible for you!
Author Information: Dr. Henry Morris is known as the father of modern Creation science, the founder of Institute for Creation Research (ICR) and the author of many well-known apologetic books. His thriving legacy continues to equip Christians to be able to defend the accuracy and authority of Scripture today.

Of the making of books there is no end and it seems like the same can be said for study Bible’s. Of course, study Bibles have a rich tradition extending back to the Geneva Bible with its extensive cross references, synopsis of passages and various doctrines. It was the study Bible for the average Christian and study Bibles have been trying to follow suit for centuries.
With the making of study Bibles there is both a common assumption and a common desire. The assumption is that though the Bible can be read by anyone who can read, it is not understood equally by everyone who does. Thus, the desire of every study Bible is to help the reader better understand what Scripture is saying. In short, the church needs study Bible’s.
There are many different kinds of study Bibles and some are more geared towards filling a niche than others. It is within this niche market that the Henry Morris Study Bible has been born. The HMSB is an apologetics study Bible that is a combination of the Defenders Study Bible combined with a gathering of the many comments on Scripture from the late Henry Morris Sr. This is an apologetics study Bible that seeks to defend the Christian faith from a’ literal biblical creationist’ viewpoint that particularly believes three things: (1) the 6 days of creation in Genesis 1 are 24 hr periods, (2) the historical account of the flood in Genesis 7-8 is accurate and speaks of a worldwide flood and (3) the earth is young with an age of 6-10 thousand years.
There are a number of notable features in the HMSB:
1. Extensive study notes – Since it is a study Bible there are tons of study notes with comments on virtually every verse in the Bible.
2. Rounded pages – The HMSB has rounded edges which are more user friendly for flipping through pages and look better since you cannot damage the corners.
3. Appendixes – The HMSB has 22 appendixes with topics ranging from different chronologies, science and Scripture, prophecy, miracles and the internal design of the Bible.
4. Words of Jesus – The words of Jesus in the Gospels are in red for easier finding.
5. Threaded book markers – The HMSB has two threaded book markers because, hey, two is better than one:)
There are also a few features of the HMSB that could have been better:
1. Version – Probably the one feature that I wish had been different was the use of the King James Version. I understand this decision fits with the beliefs of the publisher and Henry Morris Sr. himself but it would be much easier to recommend this study Bible if it were available in another version like the NASB or ESV.
2. Font – One of the first things that stood out to me was the font chosen. While I am not sure of the style name it makes the words and pages look outdated.
3. Layout – While the study notes are clearly marked out from the text of Scripture the pages have nothing more than text and horizontal lines between the text and notes. More could have been done to improve the page design with shading in the notes and charts and color maps or pictures to aid the reader in addition to the study notes.
Overall, the HMSB looks to be a good study Bible that fulfills the purpose of a study Bible – have lots of explanatory notes. For those interested in a study Bible with an apologetics bent this is a good one to own especially for those who take the same literal biblical creationist viewpoint. Most of the appendixes deal with the relevant creationist issues.
NOTE: I received this study Bible from Master Books in exchange for a review and was under no obligation to provide a favorable review.
Well, the first thing I can tell you, is that this beast is BIG! As for as study bible sizes go, it is right up there with the infamously large ESV. Serious bible poundage!
I'm reviewing the hardbound edition, which as you would expect, is sturdy and well built. The layout is a two column format with each verse starting a new line. The 10pt text is easy to read. One of the most surprising features is the inclusion of not one, but two ribbon markers. Overall, this bible delivers a pleasant reading experience.
So who is Henry Morris?
Henry Morris is considered to be the Father of modern Creationism. He believed the bible to be the absolute authority on all matters, a belief that he made his life mission to defend. Much of his work centered on the accounts of creation and the world-wide flood. Morris felt that to deny God's Word on either of these was to doubt God's truthfulness in all matters. The Henry Morris Study Bible aims to defend the truth of scripture against evolution and all competing and conflicting worldviews and "sciences" that seek to cast doubt upon or reject God's written revelation.
Now, on to the notes. The best description I can give for the reference material comes from the introduction to the study bible itself.
"Based on this literal and contextual approach, the notes become what one might call Baptistic in ecclesiology, pre-millennial in eschatology, non-charismatic in pneumatology, and moderately Calvinistic in soteriology."
Kind of refreshing to see this honest of a description right up front. This study bible was compiled with a particular world view and theology in mind, and they aren't afraid or ashamed to admit it.
Included in the back of the bible are twenty-two appendices covering topics such as the authenticity of scripture, creation versus evolution, and other theological issues. One of these I would like to mention in particular is titled "A Creationist's defense of the King James Bible." While he doesn't condemn all other bible translations as heresy, he doesn't cast them in a very favorable light either. I do appreciate the KJV and its legacy, but I personally don't agree all of the arguments used to elevate its status as the supreme biblical translation or those that cast doubt upon newer translations. Just something to be aware of.
So what's the bottom line?
If you are in the market for a new study bible and the King James is your translation of choice, you can't go wrong with The Henry Morris Study Bible.
I'd like to thank Master Books for sending me this free copy for review as part of their Bible Defenders Review Team.
When I was growing up we always had a Bible or two in the house but my family didn't frequently go to church so the first Bible I remember owning was one that I purchased myself in high school. After I was baptized that year the church I attended gave me an even nicer Bible. I really cherished them both! At college I bought a paperback study Bible and used it for classes until it fell apart! Really nice Bibles tend to be pricey but I so cherish them! There is nothing quite like a Bible. Holding God's word in our hands is such a supernatural experience. Hubby & I have definately passed our awe of the Bible on to our kids. Apple and Speedy chose to use their own money to buy a Bible each just last week. They love having them in every room too!
I was so excited when I recently received The Henry Morris Study Bible. It's big and hardback and it's in the King James Version- a version I love but that I rarely buy anymore. It really is a wonderful work. It's HUGE and it has 2 built-in ribbon bookmarks. Many times when I'm reading the Bible I long for extra bookmarks! Really I feel like every page deserves it's own! Of course that would defeat the purpose of a bookmark.......
If you are looking for a Bible that will help you delve deeper into the word, that will give you the extra explanations you long for, that will answer some of your questions, this is the one. This Bible is like a playbook. It gives you references to other passages, meanings of phrases, background to people, and more. The words of Jesus are highlighted in red (shouldn't that be a requirement in every Bible) and there is a gigantic Appendix at the back. This Bible would make a beautiful gift for any Christian.
