Magical, Metacognitive Manual for Self-Discovery and Synergy
Turning Points: Journey of Self-Discovery by Dr. Ardys Reverman is an intriguing, poetic, magical, and user-friendly guidebook for adults and children to share as they explore their own mental landscapes and navigate the paths that cross or run parallel to theirs. Dr. Reverman reintroduces her four ‘Synergy Pals’, representing four unique personalities and points of view that are found in myriad combinations from person to person, as well as within each human mind. They teach about getting along with ourselves and getting along with others, sharing our talents and passions, creating synergy.
Turning Points intersperses philosophy with poetry, discussion questions, interactive activities, and beautiful, whimsical illustrations by Charlotte Lewis. The illustrations are intricate line-art drawings that could be enlarged for coloring.
Dr. Reverman makes metacognition and self-reflection understandable even for young children, and provides vocabulary to help them develop positive self-images and social skills. The book speaks to both intrapersonal and interpersonal points of view...it is about self-discovery while appreciating and valuing those who are very different from ourselves. Its lyrical language makes it as perfect for bedtime story as it is for classroom read-aloud.
