The middle story, The Beasts of June, was my favorite. There was a lot of atmosphere and main girl was so pretty. 😍

An interesting collection of three mini stories. The first one was a fun little tale about psychic powers. I wasn't as keen on the second gang related story. The third story is a horror and was my favorite of the three.

This is a manga anthology from Yumi Tamura (mangaka of Basara and also Chicago).

It's not one of my favorite anthologies nor is it the most memorable, but it's worth checking out if you're already familiar with Yumi Tamura and would like to check out her short stories. Some may be put off by the kind of sketchy looking art (I've grown to like Tamura's art style - her stories usually make up for it).

If you've never read anything from Yumi Tamura before, then you can expect Wild Com to not be all "fluffy" and stuff, like the majority of shoujo out there (Yumi Tamura is known for her action-shoujo with a bit of fantasy/adventure).

Please note that it you want to get a better idea of Tamura's storytelling style, check out her longer series Basara (action-adventure/fantasy).

Edit 1/5/11: My review about doesn't mean that I disliked this title (I did give it 3 stars afterall), but as someone who has read a lot of anthologies, while the stories themselves are kinda unique, it's just as good as any other anthology I've read so it doesn't stand out as much for me. I read this years ago - I'll have to re-read this again in the near future to give a better assessment of it :)

Wild Com. is a manga with three short stories. The first story is about Ozeki Michiru, a girl with a pyschic affinity for fire. When she was a child, a fire killed the family of a boy that bullied her and she developed a fear of her powers. Ozeki is approached by an organization of pyschics who help the government with crimes and natural disasters. Will she help them?

The second story is a poetic tale about an assassin would works for a crimelord and the woman he falls in love with.

The third story is about Haibara Shiki, an up-and-coming model and actor. He dumps his long-time girlfriend when he becomes famous. Is she the one stalking him?

This manga features Tamura's distinctive artstyle and storytelling. The characters are engaging and the stories are unpredictable. If you liked Chicago or Basara, you will probably like this book.

Complete in one volume.

[Series Length: 1 volume / Read: volume 1]

A collection of three short stories: the first about a girl with the ability to manipulate fire joining a team of super-physic beings (think "X-Men"), the second about an assassin and a mistress attempting to escape the criminal syndicate that supported them, and the third being a suspense thriller about an narcissist male glamour model and the devoted girlfriend he dumps.

The tone of the book does become more and more depressing as the stories switches from optimistic to tragic to downright evil. Hard to say that this would have wide appeal.

"Well... That saved me some trouble."

Yumi Tamura is one of my favorite manga artists. This is a collection of 3 of her short stories. The first one is about a girl joining up with the "Wild Com" team of psychics. It's great and I wish it had been developed into a longer series, similar to "Chicago." The second story is the shortest and a bit all over the place, but the third story makes up for it with psychotic aplomb.

I like Yumi Tamura's art style. And though these stories are not as good as Basara, they certainly are enjoyable. I liked the first most and I wanted it to be longer (I can imagine longer series based on that). The second was too confusing and abstract for me and the third a nice shojo showbiz story with a dark twist. Good book.

The first and last stories in this short story manga compilation were really interesting, alas the middle one was not very appealing to me and I struggled to finish it. The art style is very similar to Basara, so much so that characters constantly looked like Sarasa.
