Groundbreaking Novel in the Awakening Series At first glance, Liz Danfield seems to have everything going for her. Coming from a wealthy family; she is young, healthy, educated, and beautiful. But in spite of all this-or perhaps because of all this-deep down she is very unsure of herself. It makes sense that at the university she would major in theater. After all, theater is the perfect place to hide from one's insecurities, from reality, from life itself. But, now it is her senior year. Her theatrical career is going nowhere and hopelessness and panic are settling in...until she meets the unlikely person who will change her life forever.
I have never been much of a fiction novel reader so an audiobook fiction is definitely something different for me. I thought I try something new especially since this is a Christian audiobook and being a Christian that gathered my interests. It was a pleasant experience with this audiobook and it was the first one I purchased from Audible and I enjoyed it! The story centered on a theatre major name Liz Danfield during her senior year at the university. With so much uncertainty about her future that many college student can relate to she also battle other fears and concerns about her identity and social dynamic that comes with being young and in college. But a dream that was so believable challenged her view of herself, God, identity, what is important and also with her sins. When she wakes up she tries to make sense of it and thinking about it and talking to her friend and going to church she come to realize she need Jesus Christ as Savior and the Lord of her life. But that’s not where the story ends; she also have to question if she’s gong to be a disciple of Christ with a possible relationship with someone who is a nonbeliever and she learns she needs to count the cost. The author Ann Aschauer not only wrote this but read it too! It’s a joy to hear the actual author. I thought the dream part made me cautious at first theologically but the book emphasized afterwards on not normalizing dreams as the means God speaks. Still there is a lot of the book that I felt was believable and actually very realistic of what someone young and insecure goes through; it also portrayed realistically what a young baby Christian go through and tackle the real topic of changing values and also the danger of “missionary dating.” I thought for a work of fiction it was more biblical than some of the theological books I read that turn out to be heretical in its content! So props to the author. I recommend it.
Loved this story, especially as I’m starting to keep an eye out for good reading material for a girl on the cusp of her teens (when did my baby girl get so big?!!!?). Clean romance, sweet storyline, a Gospel presentation that doesn’t shy away from confronting sin and portraying costly discipleship.
This is a very different love story. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. The story continues in “Vision”. NOTE: I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
