It's my book, so I'm a little biased. But what kind of author would I be if I didn't have my own novel sitting on my book shelf? Go ahead, you read it and add your own review/rating. Thanks!

I’m a HUGE paranormal fan. I love reading stories that involve species of human beings that as far as I know don’t exist because for me reading is about escape. This book more than meet my expectations of the first of an amazing paranormal series.

Regina is a hard-ass and a realistic strong female lead. I LOVE HER! She’s led a hard life, first as a rogue wolf with no pack then as the play toy of jerk of an Alpha that had no issues passing the female wolves of his pack around to anyone after he had his fill.

She’s been shipped off to a new Alpha because her old Alpha thinks she’s too much trouble and it was either a new pack or becoming a rogue again. Rogue wolves don’t last long because wolves travel in packs and need the interaction of a pack to thrive and stay alive. On her way to meet her new Alpha she gets involved in a fender bender with a horse drawn carriage and meets a man that causes a reaction in her mind and body like she’s never felt. It spooks her, who is the human to cause this overwhelming sense in her? She isn’t the only one affected. Harrison and his pirate good looks are in for the adventure of his life. His chance meeting with Regina is just the beginning and he has no idea!

Upon meeting her new Alpha Diego the first thing Regina does is offer herself to him because pack rules state Alpha has first dibs. He rejects her and because of all the abuse she’s endured she’s pissed, who is he to reject her and screw him because she can get her rocks off anywhere. She did her duty and offered him first dibs! She finds solace in the charming, good looking Cole. He’s human but there’s this spark and he reminds her of the pirate she’ll never see again…...or so she thinks. A night of drinking turns into a morning of fun when Regina and Cole create more steam than the shower where their passion ignites.

Cole is a player, he has a new woman each night but for some reason he can’t get Regina out of his head. It sounds cliché I know but there’s a reason for that and I refuse to spoil it! Anyways Cole actually asks Regina out on a date which shocks the hell out of them both. He can’t believe he wants to see her again when that isn’t his style and she’s never been out on a date before, that isn’t how her life has been up until this point. The date starts off very sweet and you want it to lead to a sweeter night but Cole is called into work and can’t say no. The person he works for doesn’t take no for an answer. He doesn’t want her night to be ruined because he can’t stay so he talks her into taking the carriage ride he has set up with his roommate…..and surprise, surprise it’s her pirate from the car accident!! The electricity between Harrison and Regina is just as strong as it was that first meeting but neither want to betray Cole so they fight the attraction and agree to tour the town as friends. A scuffle in a bar leads Regina to believe there’s more to Harrison than even he realizes and they return to his house so she can tell him her suspicions. Harrison can sense the truth and knows that Regina isn’t lying about the whopper that she drops on him, it’s not what he ever expected!

I want to go on and on but I think I’ll give too much away because after this chapter the book just explodes and doesn’t stop! If you’re a series lover like I am you’ll love the fact that this first book was 600 pages long and really provided all the ground work for the next book and most likely the entire series. This book isn’t suggested for anyone under 18 honestly. Sure there’s sex and violence but there is also sexual assault and human trafficking. While it isn’t disgustingly graphic it is detailed and isn’t for the faint of heart. I haven’t read the second book but I plan to this weekend and if it’s as long as the first book it’s going to take at least a week. I definitely recommend the book to ALL paranormal and series lovers like myself.

This book was refreshing from the very beginning in its originality on its take of shifters, where they come from, and how they do or don’t fit together, with humans, and with other “creatures” in the world. It definitely was not cookie-cutter, with bitten, turned, so on, and so on. I don’t want to give too much away, but this book definitely had an intriguing look at how shifters come to be, how they find each other, and what it means to be a shifter. It was also a very different, slightly more believable look at what other creatures would really be like (again, don’t want to give too much away about who/what they come across).

Regina Capalini is a great character. I love a strong female lead, but I also liked that in her case, she was realistically strong. She was tough, and certainly not someone that you would want to come across in battle; she was confident in her abilities as a shifter, but she was also able to admit there were areas that she was NOT strong, and wasn’t one of the characters that refused to face it, and you spend the entire book wondering when the denial would end, when it was so clear to everyone else in the beginning. Regina instead acknowledges she has issues with personal relationships, and is trying to find ways to fix them rather than hide them.

This is where Diego is one of the characters fits in so perfectly in her life; the alpha to look up to like she never had in her life before. There are so many things I adore about Diego, and was interestingly my favorite character in the book. He wasn’t anyone’s love interest, and probably wouldn’t be considered a “main” character, but he brought so much life, substance, and emotion to the book. He was the glue for everyone.

As we met each character along the way, they all melded so well together, and it was believable that they could all quickly become family. I’m usually a pretty strong critic in stories where people fall in love, or become best friends in 2 days, but this author did a great job in explaining why this COULD be possible, and why specifically in the shifter world, it works. I was definitely impressed by that.

This author did a great job in building relationships, making a really good shifter world, and keeping multiple storylines not lose momentum, and meet up perfectly at the end. I am definitely interested in seeing where book 2 ends up taking us!

A wolf shifter with a chip on her shoulder moves from Chicago to Philadelphia to work under a new alpha and her life is forever changed.

Regina Capalini has had it rough her whole life. Her Chicago pack isn't paradise, but it's all she knows--until she's dismissed and sent to work for Diego, a gruff Creole alpha with a surprisingly soft heart. They don't get off to a great start thanks to Regina's bad attitude, but it's not like she has much choice. If this doesn't work out, she's on her own. And wolf shifters do not do well on their own. So Regina settles in to make the best of things. She even hooks up with an hot guy. Things get a little overheated on Regina and Cole's first night together, leaving her with a connection she never bargained for. If this isn't bad enough, Cole's best friend Harry is the man she's been fantasizing about ever since the god-awful Philly traffic threw them together...literally.

A little awkward? Well, that's just the beginning. This potential love triangle turns into a desperate race to save a friend from certain death. Or worse.

Together, authors Kelly and Dorchak create a cast of unique characters, each one a believable mix of strengths and weaknesses. The heroes made me want to hit them at times. And the villains are so bad I didn't just want them to get what they deserved, I wanted it to hurt.

Oh, there's plenty of pain in these pages. Physical and emotional. The authors are hard on their characters. Regina, Cole, Harry, Diego and the others find their deepest wounds exposed, their understanding of the world and their places in it shattered, and their relationships (old and new) tested to the point that you can't see how some bonds will survive. There are scenes that were hard for me as a reader to bear. But the light, engaging writing style drew me in and held me as the plot turns grew sharper and the stakes rose higher.

I think what I loved most about LOYALTIES was watching a collection of lonely and somewhat lost spirits find each other and connect and grow into something bigger than any of them were on their own. There are no perfect resolutions here--this isn't a fairy tale--but there is love, compassion, honor and determination. So as this motley family rushes headlong into the next chapter of their saga, you are compelled to run with them.

Regina turns up in Diego's care after her last pack wanted rid of her. She has a very large chip on her shoulder and as the story progresses, you find out exactly why. Regina is a prickly character to start with but, you know what, that absolutely suited her.

I will admit, I thought I'd started the wrong book when I read the prologue but it all ties together perfectly. The character and world-building in this book are second to none. Everything slots into place but not without difficulties arising from miscommunication, circumstances etc.

One thing that I need to emphasise right now is just how good this shifter world is!! The ties that bind them are so strong. You learn a lot about 'pack life' and can imagine it being just this way. The explanations given on vampires, on how silver hurts the shifter, on how pack law rules are the only way, just fantastic!

This is a chunky book which I am so thankful for! This is a book to lose yourself in, to immerse yourself in and to thoroughly enjoy! Take your time with this book and enjoy every single word. Highly recommended!

If you haven’t yet read this book I suggest that it be the next on your list. If you like vampires, wolves, or shifters…This book is for you.

This book is full of action, adventure, love story, and the bond between a small group of friends who soon become Pack and bond themselves together in honor, loyalty and spirit. You will fall in love with the characters. You will cry for them, cheer them on and be on the edge of your chair at times. You may even hold your breath from time to time. All in all it’s an amazing book.

Loyalties is a captivating and explosive start to an intriguing shape-shifter series. This first book does a fantastic job of putting everything into place, leaving us thirsty for more. The plot involving shape-shifting humans is complex, but at no point does the writing leave us behind. It twists and turns at a galloping pace, and the characterisation is excellent. However, for readers who are not keen on extended and graphic sex scenes, this may not be the series for you!

Bonds of Blood and Spirit: Loyalties is a well crafted story that sucked me in from the first chapter to the end. This is a very healthy book with over 600 pages and took me a while to get through but well worth it. I look forward to diving into the next books in the series. I was impressed at how 2 authors could get together and write a book as one. It would be interesting to interview these authors and find out the secret behind this special union. Well done!

I met the authors at the KABAM Book Festival and bought all four books in the series. It is a good book. It is not what I expected, but not in a bad way. There was a little more romance in the book than I was expecting. I usually don't read romance books, but there was enough of a story that it was ok. I am looking forward to starting the next book. This one mostly set up the background of all the characters coming together. I think the next book will probably really get the story going.

When a movie plays out in my head while I am reading a book, it gets my two thumbs up. When I read the last word on the last page and I am disappointed that the book has ended, then two thumbs up. When I can't wait to follow the next adventures of the characters, another two thumbs up. That makes it six thumbs up for Loyalties!

Fantastic book - starts out like a romance novel but becomes so much more. The excitement builds and the end leaves you wanting the next book, which thankfully is now available. Bought it as a gift for my daughter last summer, she's getting the new one to read on spring break this year. I'm sure she'll get then next two for her birthday in July.

This book is worth the read. I've read it many times and still can't get enough of it. There are many wonderful characters with such different personalities and backgrounds. They make the story really come to life.

Loyalties has it all, romance, good guys, bad guys, battles, shapshifters and vampires. The storyline kept me reading until the very end and I must admit to being disappointed when it ended. Thank goodness it is a series.
