Jorge Cordoba has schemed and cheated his way to the top of a criminal enterprise that stands on the threshold of becoming an international power. A Harvard-trained business genius, Cordoba has master-minded a plot to turn godfather Don Gallardo's Colombian drug cartel into an organization that will bring the industrialized nations of the world to their knees. La Estrella Latina, the freighter delivering the goods that will secure Cordoba - and the cartel's - future, is en route to its secret destination. To ensure absolute success, Cordoba has placed a special security guard aboard. He is called El Callado, the Silent One...a killer unlike any other. But La Estrella Latina never reaches port. And when the freighter is sighted floating listlessly in the steel-gray seas, another man enters the equation. He is Naval lieutenant Daniel Blake, and he could jeopardize Cordoba's entire operation. Blake wants only one thing from the U.S. Navy: his own command. Instead, he finds himself trapped on an obsolete destroyer on patrol off the coast of Peru. Now he's just been ordered to lead a boarding party onto an abandoned freighter. Struggling against a gale-force storm that cuts off communication with his own ship, Blake and the seven men and one woman under his command scramble over the rusty sides of La Estrella Latina.

Reads like an old golden age crime comic book. A cartel member lives large, with women and all kinds of luxuries we can only dream of, while the putative hero goes through horrors trying to stop him.

Great story!

I love sea stories and this was a good one! Great characters lots of action. It all tied together at the end. Many twists too. The hero kept coming up with answers and a lot of luck. Okay, some wildly unusual luck and close calls some might call unbelievable in real life, but fiction isn't real life. No different than Clive Cussler heroes like Dirk Pitt. It's fun and some how makes sense in the context of an exciting read. I hope Medland gets started on his next adventure ,I'm looking forward to it!

Entertaining & Captivating

I gave this a rating of 5 because it held my interest and was a new storyline for me. I didn't know what was coming next, and I enjoyed the differences in the characters.

An exciting read

An exciting read. Military, the U.S. Navy. Drug runners. Organised crime and a cyclone thrown in just for fun! Oh, a little romance to boot.

First half was excellent and had great expectations where it would go but the obligatory love story took a lot of the wind out of the sails. And the added adoption.....not necessary.

Hold On! This Is Action Packed

At times the story line became extended with details. Overall a fast page turner. This reminds of a Clive Cussler novel.
