Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE, better known as the Rev. W. Awdry, was an English clergyman, railway enthusiast and children's author, and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who starred in Awdry's acclaimed Railway Series.
The characters that would make Awdry famous, and the first stories featuring them, were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles. The first book (The Three Railway Engines) was published in 1945, and by the time Awdry stopped writing in 1972, The Railway Series numbered 26 books. Christopher subsequently added further books to the series.
This book is a hit in my classroom. My favorite part in this book is some of the sight words that is in it. This can help my students recognize their sight words and point them out while ready this book.
Favorit Damar yang lain. "Ibuk, baca buku Kam Kam (Come Come)" Begitu ajakan Damar untuk membaca buku ini. Entah kenapa Catch Me jadi Come? Kadang aku bacain sesuai teks aslinya. Kadang aku terjemahkan secara bebas. Kadang aku tambah-tambahi narasinya. Misalnya, "Gordon udah nyampe atas bukit tuh. Lihat! Lihat! Gordon diliatin embek. Mbeeeek..." Lalu dia menunjuk kepala si pak pengawas sambil berteriak, "botak!!!" :D
This is a fun book about opposites, similarities, colors, and also a great way to talk about good sportsmanship with your kids. How to not behave like Gordon. Plus, it is a great example of how to use your strengths (and knowledge) to accomplish a seemingly impossible task. It is just a cute simple easy to read fun story.
The illustrations are the key to this children's book. Thomas is a character children either like or don't like. My son enjoyed the series for a time. We had Thomas stuff all over his room.
