With the signature hilarity that has made the Sucks series a hit, Kimes and Laccinole tackle bedtime, naptime, and all the wakey-wake time on the way to a full night's sleep.
Do you suffer from sleep deprivation because...
—Your baby only dozes off in your arms—rendering you unable to move? —Your toddler refuses to nap and only goes to bed after five bedtime stories, three glasses of water, and the binkie that can never ever be washed? —One expert tells you to let them scream themselves to sleep, while another says the family bed is best?
One thing's for Nobody sleeps if the children don't. Amid all the conflicting advice, Bedtime Sucks is the only book to admit that trying to get your kid to sleep sure does suck!
Inside, authors Joanne Kimes and Kathleen Laccinole —Good sleep habits that start in the womb; —The Zen Commandments of getting the baby to sleep through the night; —Why the hand that rocks the cradle is the one that's constantly exhausted; and —Travel dos and don'ts, potty training troubles, how to juggle more than one sleepy child at a time, and more.
I used to write for TV but when I became pregnant, I couldn't believe there wasn't a book out there that delved into the true perils of procreation. So I wrote "Pregnancy Sucks", sent it out to a handful of publishers and, at the lowest point in any woman's year, when trying on bathing suits at the mall, I got a call that it was going to be published! It became a best-seller and led to a dozen other books in the "Sucks" series, and an appearance on the Today show. I just released my first fiction book, "Finding Paris: A Novel" which is like going to the city of light from your coziest chair. I hope you enjoy it! Merci beaucoup.
Easy, fun read, but definitely has some outdated/controversial information. Be sure to read other, newer, and more reliable resources in addition to this book.
So I picked this book up at my local bookstore when I was still in my first trimester of pregnancy. It was a good, light, entertaining read that was filled with funny quips, different methods and bedtime trouble solutions.
Now that my lil guy is 4 months old, I'm actually using some of the things I read in the book. It was such a cute read that I actually plan on reading it again... after I get it back from a girlfriend that I loaned it to.
"Bedtime Sucks" was such an enjoyable read that I just looked up the author page. I didn't know that she, Joanne Kimes, had a buncha "Sucks" books out. Now I'm going to have to read "Breastfeeding Sucks". Haha (It only sucks for the first couple of months. Then it all evens out and is actually a lot easier than the formula stuff!)
I thought this book was hysterical. The writers keep it fresh and funny. Granted if you have had more than one child you know all of this. I was hoping for some help with getting my 3 year old to sleep through the night and there really wasn't any help. However for a first time parent this is a great read.
This book should be called, Bedtime Sucks and there's nothing you can do about it! While humorous at times, this book is more of a commentary on how it can be hard to get kids to go to bed, and really offers no practical suggestions for how to get them to do so.
