Carl Condit was an American historian of urban and architectural history, a writer, professor, and teacher. He wrote numerous books and articles on the history of American building, especially in Chicago, and founded the History of Science Department at Northwestern University, where he taught for over 30 years.
This book was slow at times and (speaking as an engineer) could have used more explanation of the physics of the various developments and technical diagrams. Still, I learned a ton and it has completely changed the way I look at the built environment around me, and for that it more than earns the highest rating.
