Very good underworld book

I wasn't really sure I'd l Iike this book but I need up finding myself wanting t o know what was coming next for Fate , Kane and Ever. There is some good use of imagination about what hell would be like or in this case the underworld. The different species the author came up with was very imaginative, the gardens , the forest, all very picture perfect but believable and so magical for such violent evil place.
I really ended up getting into this book and liking the story line.
now I want to know what the queen did to Ever, will she wake?
I'm glad I got this book, even though it was free it was a really good read, worth the time and gives you something to imagine and not beyond the truth so far that it couldn't be believable.
good story, great writing and again, imagination, and the characters become real to you and you actually feel for them. that's a plus in any book. Kane was a bit insecure but with reason after his wife was killed by a shade and to fall in love with a shade was wrong or wasn't it?
I think I'll definitely read book 2to find out what happens next.
I would like to know what did happen on the surface after Fates death. nothing is ever mentioned.
I'm sure there will be a way for her to get back to the surface and seek her revenge. I hope so anyways, I'm truly look I t.v. forward to that.
buy this you won't regret the read.

I really enjoyed the book, and found it easy to read. The pages almost turned themselves. The author does an excellent job of creating and describing the Dark World. I do have two issues. First, some breaks in the book are very abrupt. The next scene will start without any transition, even to the point of starting out with, "She..." where it sometimes took a page or two to figure out who "She" was. Second, Kane comes off sounding like a whiny, insecure teenager. I like angst in my romances, but it just didn't ring true for such an aged character.

An evil Queen. An exiled Demon Prince. A damned a teenaged girl. A race to collect the lost scrolls of the demons bible.
In a world with no sun, crystal forests, ancient castles, flying dragons, gargoyles, faeries, unicorns, necromancers, and soul eating beings; a murdered girl must find her way home.
Following Fate from one adventure to the next proved to be an exciting adventure.
There are a couple glitches in this story, but I feel that taken as a whole this book was an 'above' average read.
I recommend this book to lovers of young adult, fantasy, paranormal romance.

Solid 3 stars for young adult dark fantasy novel of a teenaged girl whose sacrificial death transforms her into a powerful shade of the Dark World. There, she becomes embroiled in factional battles between the native demons and the enemy shades, and caught up in a mystery to recover the pages of the Devil's Bible.

The book is quick moving and evenly paced, up until the ending, which seemed rushed to conclude to the last thought: read Book 2 to find out what comes up next.

Well i only read this book because i was looking through the free nook books ,on my nook and decided to give it a try ....... i um kind of loved it.

Crazy mother of the son of Lucifer this book has its epic twists.

1. in the begging Scarlett is a turd for following her date into some creepy woods.
p.s. if the whole town is in lock down because of some crazy " things " that happened years ago why let your daughter out ?(just saying)
2. dying isn't pretty and well going to hell and not being "dead" isn't either.
3. you'll just have to read the book to find out more of why fate seeing Scarlett might have something to do with the Phoenix in the stars.

i enjoyed this book because of the change of scene and how Danielle Q. Lee can make a demon with onyx colored skin , horns , and crazy blue hair seen in the slightest bit appealing. everyone who like old magic, crazy monsters and tales of adventures of the hell ridden soul eaters this is their book.

I really liked this book...which is so surprising to me since it was hella cliche at times and the romance was way too intense and unrealistic. I mean, you met 6 days ago and you claim you can't live without each other...I usually can't stand characters/or stories like that.

Even so, I really enjoyed it.

Oh well, I'm not going to question it any longer, I liked it, so I liked it.

All in all, this was exceptionally thin to the point of boredom. The plot, such as it is, doesn't stay still long enough to actually make you want to know what is going on and the perspective changes between characters so quickly, without warning or appropriate formatting that it becomes tiresome as well as confusing.

On top of this, the author falls into a few basic traps of this sort of genre;
1. An easy to spot from a damn mile off romance that should be impossible and yet from the very get go you know is inevitable. Poor writing.
2. Things happening miraculously quickly or easily like a demons entire view of their mortal enemies is changed within a couple of hours. Seriously. This demon is three hundred years old. It should have taken more than a couple of paragraphs to decide she's ok after all and more than a chapter to so obviously fall for her. Poor pacing.
3. The evil one is oh, so evil for no reason or any that is bothered to be explained at least; there are family ties and all that jazz but there is no depth or background to it. Lack of immersive reality.
4. By and large the characters are simply annoying. The only interesting ones are the ones you see the least of; Ever and the shadey dude who appears in the last few chapters. The rest of them? Even the Prince of Darkness? Seriously, I wouldn't have cared if they had died in a hole. Poor characterisation.
5. What idiot girl goes and gets herself murdered by going out with a guy on the one night in the whole year that three girls are always murdered and have been for a century?? Come on. Common sense. Even teenagers aren't that thick. Poor set-up.

So why two stars? Because the premise is good, the actual thinking behind the shades and how they hunt is quite interesting, there are hints of something more interesting to come on the surface and the writing style isn't awesome. It just isn't great. A trick was missed by having Fate remember so little of her life on the surface as well, as this could have been a hugely emotional pull and yet was almost entirely glossed over.

I was given this book to read by the author herself! I have to admit that I was a little put off by the cover, only because it didnt look like something i like. I know I should but I judge a book by its cover and this one put me off a bit but that doesnt mean that I hated the book from the start. But turns out that I loved this book!! It was amazing! It had everything i love like demons, a little bit of love and it takes place in hell! What isnt there to love about this book!!?? I have to make sure I dont say to much about this book because I still want you to read it, I get carried away sometimes when I write about a book that I loved, so i dont want to give away any spoilers!

Scarlet Prince lives in a world where you everything you can think of demon wise anyways, Im talking gargoyles, and necromancers and many more. But what Scralet also has is powers, and these powers she cant control how she uses them and when. There are so many choices she has to make in this book, Im not sure if I would be able to make them if I was her.
Then she falls in love with someone but there is only one problem he is the enemy! You start to wonder why she is in love with him, if she loves him and chooses him it could destroy everything! Who would you choose, your soul mate or everyone else? Would you do what is necessarily to save everyone which only means breaking your heart?

I love this book, I had to say that again just to make sure that you heard me. It was a great fantasy and it could be read by anyone even young adults! Lee sure does know how to write them! It had a great plot, amazing detail she gave when telling about parts of the story.

I give this book 4 out of 5. would get 5 out of 5 but im not crazy about the cover.

I love books where the POV characters aren't human and have powers. Kane is a 300 year old demon and Scarlet/Fate is a human turned shade. The story is set in the underworld. My kind of book. And, it's called Dark World. I'm a sucker for a dark world. The person on the cover looks like something out of an anime.

This author knows how to crank up the suspence. She had my heartrate up from start to finish. I actually read this book at home, not just on the train. That rarely happens. I might have to read it again. I was so worried about the characters, I raced through the story. I probaly missed something important. The worldbuiling was on point. I like the author's take on hell.

Scarlet's a teenage girl who became Fate, a shade. She's thrown into the underworld. Shades are these nasty monsters who don't have a mind of thier own. Every demon hates them. Fate's different. She held onto part of her personality. The whole tennage girl turned vicious monster could've been real irritating. I don't want a story about a girl whining about her fate *wink*.

The story is part romance between Fate and Kane. I enojed the romance but I didn't beleive it. I don't care for the whole instant connection trope. Fate and Kane where talking about how they loved each other and I'm like, "how did that happen?!" I had to shelve my disbelief. But, I didn't hate the idea of them being in love. I just needed more. They meet and then 2 or 3 days later they're talking about love.

All in all Dark World was a fun read.

I enjoyed this book. It was a very different twist on the "normal paranormal" books out there. I love the idea of the shades and who they were.

Most of my issues with the book were minor. Issues with staying in line with the past. Example. Many times Fate's facial expressions are described, or one time she mouthed something to someone, yet at those times she had her mask on so it would be impossible.

Overall I really liked the book. It was a good read. I look forward to finding out how everything will turn out!

I purchased this as an ebook from Amazon.

What a wonderfully written intriguing book couldn't put it down. An original idea of The Shade soulless humans. I loved the character Fate. Very well thought out and detailed writing. Looking forward to reading book 2 in the series The Devil Inside.

“Hear us Queen of the Dark, we give you this soul in exchange for power and eternal life. Take this child into your bosom of evil, feast upon her spirit. Grant us immortality!”

This novel was absolutely AMAZING!! I would recommend it to anyone who wants to read a story about demons who are not the typical christian portrayed demons. Had a great story, fun to read, and I fell in love with Kane and Fate. Seriously, read this book!

This book was unique and interesting.
The characters weren't what you read about all the time, they weren't typically beautiful but still were ...
The story line was good, but the final victory seemed too easy for me but most do.

I loved this book as a kid so I reread it as an adult to see if I still liked it. I loved it so much as an adult too. I am going to continue to read the series. It’s simple writing but so easy to read.

Ugh... This was one of the bad ones. The only reason I read it was because the setting was interesting (I'm a sucker for 'this is what hell looks like' settings and for the 'protagonist becomes stronger' themes).

Now. If you get rid of the setting and the 'getting stronger' theme, what do we have left?

Well, we have a whimpering protagonist who although is really strong has this weird fear of losing her 'humanity' because she needs to dine on souls for sustenance. Even though she's no longer human. I mean, eating a burger at McDonald's seems to be ok in her book, but killing a cow to eat the burger - that's being evil. Makes me want to whack her on the head with something really heavy.

Next we have a bipolar supporting male character who can't figure out whether to love the protagonist or hate her because of what she is. Or rather because of her dietary needs it seems (remember: killing cows to eat burgers is EVIL, and he in this case is the proverbial cow). Oh! Did I mention he's a demon? No? That's because he and the rest of supposedly evil vile things in this hell behave entirely too human. Apparently demons aren't evil because they're demons, but because they were at the top of the food chain and so when their world has been turned upside down they became quite humbled seeing how they no longer were the masters of the world and instead the slaves of a powerful (sic!) demoness.

The romance theme in this book deserves a separate mention because it's so much like 90% of other paranormal romance themes. So. If you enjoy paranormal romance with an occasional typo, you'll love this book. I'm sure of it. Almost. Maybe. A little.

I picked up this book on my Kobo because it looked like a good freebie. And there it sat for about a year, always being pushed to the back burner by newer more well-known releases.

I recently had my Kobo with me in the Bahamas, had read everything else I had with me, and found myself unable to connect to WiFi anywhere to download a new novel, so this little gem came in handy!

Let me say first of all that I believe that this book's rating has fallen victim to the issue many "first in the series" books have when the world that they are building is so vastly different from the one that we live in. Much time is spend describing and back-filling the story. A totally necessary element, but it can get tedious. The characters usually end up suffering in their lack of depth as a result.

Secondly, I think this young adult book could have pushed the envelope a little more if it hadn't been quite so predictable. I won't lie, I do like to guess along the way which twists and turns are waiting for me as the reader, but there were a couple of "Scooby" moments that were completely unneccessary.

All in all I was impressed with this book and look forward to reading the next in the series. With a lot of the details of Dark World established in book 1, future books should be able to delve into the characters a little deeper, rounding out a world that has the potential for greatness.
