Middle-aged bookkeeper Aydan Kelly never wanted to moonlight as a spy, but she doesn’t have a choice. Working with computer networks in a secured building sounds safe, but it turns out the job’s a killer – literally.
When Aydan’s trusted co-worker is shot while committing an apparently treasonous act, Aydan embarks on a secret mission to clear his name. But her investigation casts suspicion on the director of operations himself. If he’s a double agent, Aydan’s in more danger than she ever imagined… and national security hangs in the balance.
By profession, I’m a technical writer, computer geek, and ex-interior designer. I’m good at two out of three of these things. I had the sense to quit the one I sucked at.
To deal with my mid-life crisis, I also write adventure novels featuring a middle-aged female protagonist, Aydan Kelly. And I kickbox.
This seemed more productive than indulging in more typical mid-life crisis activities like getting a divorce, buying a Harley Crossbones, and cruising across the country picking up men in sleazy bars. Especially since it’s winter most of the months of the year here.
It’s much more comfortable to sit at my computer. And hell, Harleys are expensive. Come to think of it, so are beer and gasoline.
Oh, and I still love my husband. There’s that. I’ll stick with the writing.
This was not quite what I expected, although it did deliver the promised suspense vibe. I'm actually not really sure what I thought about it so I'm giving it a 3 Star rating. Some parts of it were very good and I enjoyed the story but some parts felt a little drawn out to me so I'm a little on the fence about it.
Basic Details: Book Title: Reach For The Spy Subtitle: (Never Say Spy #3) Author: Diane Henders Genre: Spy/Mystery Part of a series? Yes Order in series: 3 Best read after earlier books in series? Can be read on its own but better after the 1st two Available: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... Overall score: I scored this book 5/5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Short Summary of the book: In this book Aidan Kelly is put to work as a spy once more. The middle-aged bookkeeper thought she regained her freedom at the end of the first book only to be dragged into the spy-world once more in the second book. In this book her co-worker John Kane gets shot when he is suspected of treason. Aidan believes in his innocence and works on proving this. What I liked about the book: I loved this book as much as I did the other two. Who would expect a boring bookkeeper to be a kick-ass spy? And for a little while it also looked like she would find a happily-ever-after but I guess that’s not (yet) on the card for her and her boys yet. What I didn’t like about the book: There is nothing in the book I didn’t like. My favourite bits in the book: Too many to count, I loved the book. My least favourite bits in the book: There were no least favourite bits. The book makes you want to read on and not stop after the next. Any further books in the series? Any more planned by this author? That is the good news, there are 14 more in the series already and I can’t wait for no. 15. What books could this be compared to and why? Recommendation: In summary, I would recommend this book for the following readers:
Children No Young Adult Yes Adult Yes
If you like a tongue-in-cheek spy mystery this book may be the book for you.
I look forward to reading more books by this author. This story finds, aydan, john, spider, germaine,Connors and Stephan the director of gov't intelligence research center hidden under the name of sirris. The team discover a leak within the intelligence agency who are trying to draw out the enemy whom put out a hit on aydan, but now thinks she's dead. But someone within the agency trying to let them know she's alive. All suspicion lead to someone higher up. It's full of action, intense thriller. Could not put the book down ,there's 13 series to the story, each more suspenseful than the last..The
The third story in the life of Aydan Kelly, who's life seems to consist of getting in and out of trouble, and occasionally someone's bed. I love all the characters and find myself laughing occasionally. I never put one of these down when I start it.
Looking forward to book 4 as I will be reading the entire series.
Pro, twisty tale with characters I love. Con, if I had to read 'I'm sorry', or 'I'm okay' one more time I was going to scream. Thankfully, it did stop halfway thru the book. One character in particular needs to be eliminated. Considering the writing skills of Ms. Henders, I'm hoping she takes care of it within the next few books.
The Never Say Spy book series through the first three volumes have been very entertaining each story weaves a web of it's own. While developing the personalities of the main characters. So far through the first three books I have enjoyed them and put them in the good read list in my tablet.
Such a great story. I did suspect the paramedic. I knew you couldn't possibly kill off Lane so early in the series. I was happy that he was brought back. On to book four.☺
Light reading and totally implausible fluff but what's wrong with that? A brilliant way to escape the day for a while. Have already bought the next one. :)
This ebook was loaned to me. Love love love Aydan and the Spy crew! My mom and I were happy to recommend this series to our local library who ordered all copies for their catalog. Although a series with a central villainous organization, each book progressively chips away at the main plot thread. I read books two and three back to back in a day, so I'll share this review to say the characters are excellent, each book has a specific sub-plot that reaches a conclusion, even as the larger storyline continues. Aydan is smart, and competent-- a badmouthed, unabashedly sexual woman in her 40s with an array of hidden talents. I highly recommend the series, which should be read in order because of the overall Fuzzy Bunny plot. This is one you should be recommending to YOUR local library!
This series just gets better and better! I cant stop reading! More action, turns and twists, great character development, and one hell of a fun read. Diane Henders has officially become one of my top 5 favorite authors.
You just can't go wrong with this series. I'm totally addicted! Aydan is as good as ever and we finally learn who the mole inside the company is besides the first one. There are lots of laughs, heart ache and romance.
How are these books getting better? OMG! I was on the edge of my couch cushion throughout book 3 - I literally laughed out loud until my sides hurt, only to en up crying like a baby and in the end happiness prevailed but my-oh-my what a joyous adventure!!!
