The Codex Amiatinus manuscript of the Latin Vulgate is said to be the finest preserved manuscript of the Christian Bible. Produced circa 700 in the north-east of England, at the Benedictine abbey of Monkwearmouth-Jarrow in the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Northumbria, (now South Tyneside,) and sent to Pope Gregory II as a gift in 716.
