Good for new therapists

This books is good for new therapists seeking to build a relationship with clients, rather than an expert and patient model. Although it doesn’t focus on theory, it tackles critical aspects of the client and therapist dynamic such as consistent scheduling, Motivational Interviewing to help the client find something meaningful to work on in treatment, therapists knowing themselves, structured sessions, note taking, and beliefs about change etc. I appreciated the summary at the end of each chapter.

Mastering Emotional Intelligence

loved reading Counselor: Tricks for Blossoming from Good to Great (Manage My Emotion Series) by psychologist and emotional intelligence expert Kenneth Martz. This book provides a comprehensive and accessible guide to self-discovery and helps counselors, coaches, social workers, and psychologists develop a deep understanding of themselves, their values, and their goals. Dr. Martz does a great job of providing practical exercises and insights on a wide range of topics, including the power of belief systems, goal-setting, and building strong relationships.

I was especially moved by the dedication of Dr. Martz to provide a step by step approach to the introspective journey towards personal growth and career development. He also offers practical exercises and tools for readers to use in their own lives, such as mind mapping and journaling. I was inspired by the stories of the bricklayers captured in the book and resonated with the message of those who shifted their mindset and pursued personal growth.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their lives and advance their career. The comprehensive approach to counseling and coaching covers a wide range of topics and provides step by step techniques to help with personal growth and development.

Grow Into Your Role By Better Understanding

I have read and reviewed several books in this author's Manage My Emotions series, and I find his books to be well written, easy to read, highly personal, and insightful. This book is no exception. While I'm not a full-time counselor, low-level counseling is part of my job as an addictions nurse. I like how this book helps you explore your biases, strengths, and weaknesses to become better in your role and serve others more effectively. But the book is much more than that. It explores goals, relationships, and structure, both how they affect you on a personal level and how they can best be incorporated professionally… and how those intertwine. As the author states in the introduction, this book contains information he has pulled together from decades as a working counselor, the kind of information you don't learn in school (but that he shares with new counselors). As always, I appreciate his insights and will use them to help not only my clients but also myself. Highly recommended.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

well done

This is a pretty good book from a series I’ve read all the other books with him. This author is talented and definitely an expert in the subject.

I enjoy the writing style and it’s easy to follow and stay engaged even though the material is dry at times.

Although this subject matter is out of the ordinary for the series, it is still written in the same style.

A fascinating read from a layman’s perspective

I bought this book because my daughter just finished her masters program in psychology. I bought it for her, but I just finished reading it myself. I learned a lot to help me personally, and I’m sure this well organized book will be a valuable resource for her.
