This book is both interesting and terrifying at the same time. While reading it, one wants to believe that many of the described stories are fiction. Unfortunately, this is not the case. In Poland, we still have serious problems in hospitals; we are aware of this, but it is hard to believe that regardless of whether you pay for the visit or for care, women are left to fend for themselves. This is terrifying to me. I am a woman, and these topics are close to me, yet at the same time very distant, because without my own experience and pregnancy-related needs, I would not see many challenges. Nevertheless, the story presented in the book is very moving.
The book's style is appropriate, easy to absorb, everything can be imagined, and the horror can be felt. I say this consciously because childbirth is a huge effort for a woman's body. And if you are left alone with it, in times when technology and knowledge are widely available, it really terrifies.
It's great that partners are becoming more aware and that there are good people, but I wonder why there are still so few of them. The book focuses mainly on difficult aspects, although I guess there are also good moments sometimes. Nevertheless, it greatly helps to understand the issue, showing what to pay attention to and what to possibly prepare for.
This is a very important book for couples who are pregnant or planning to be, as well as for people who want to be close to their pregnant friends.
