Book five of the Starman Saga. "Attention all agents. You know my voice. You know our purpose." "It's time to move." "The Starmen are still on the estate." "Keep them there." "Make sure they don't leave!" An Unseen Enemy The Starmen's search for the Benefactors has led to a conspiracy of powerful men embedded in the leadership of Mars. With every new revelation, the Ancient Enemy of the Xenobots retreats farther into the shadows, along with the Starmen's fading hope. An invisible army opposes them at every turn. An insidious enemy has turned an entire world against them. If the Starmen cannot reveal their true opponent before his plans are complete, they stand to lose everything. A worlds hangs in the balance. This is the future. The way it used to be!
A Kingdom in Twilight takes a shift from the exploration stories of the last couple of books, to focus more on a human conspiracy against the Starmen. Framed for murder, they find themselves on the run from a mysterious and deadly adversary which is likely linked to the Xenobots. Things have never felt more grim as these heroes are painted as villains.
This is not to say that there is no exploration in this book. I enjoyed the big revelation early in the book which will have a big impact on the mythology of the Starman Saga.
This book, and the next book, were originally published as one volume, which means this one ends with what I found to be a very effective cliffhanger. It feels like a two-parter on an old TV Show.
I'm excited to see the continuation of all that this book has set up.
The Starman Saga continues to deliver a refreshing take on science fiction. "A Kingdom in Twilight" finds our three heroes unraveling an ancient intergalactic mystery while being pursued by a new enemy who is a step ahead of them at every turn. "Twilight" is a wholesome, action-packed continuation of The Starman Saga the whole family can read.
