Mainly for the beginning, the "I like yous" and the

I was disappointed that a lot of their getting to know each other was brushed over, a lot of telling.

It had some interesting things that could be developed but the antagonists "The Elite" were ridiculously incompetent considering how all-encompassing their power supposedly is.

Also: you can't "reimplant[...] [something] new" (Loc 3097)

Quote
"Turns out, he [...] has spent the same time I've been pining for him, pining for me. We're idiots. (Loc 1247)

"One of the first steps of achieving that goal is attaining a tumescence" (Loc 255)

Just because I'm always happy encountering the term, although the 'a' reads very weirdly.

NSFW infos:
- One 7 foot guy from the future who has never felt sexual attraction (26 -> 28, has scales, and a ten-pack)
- One guy who always gets overlooked (gay, 27 -> 29)
- strict top/bottom (?) Can't remember

It's not at all what I thought this would be. It's way better. Please, madam could I have views from his five chosen family members. Can't let the Elite get a way with this.

I loved this book because it made me laugh so much and also because it was sooo romantic. Casey always manages to portray such lovely characters and I just fell in love with both the MCs.
Draxl travels back in time to try to fix humankind's future. He needs to find his soulmate to restore the life force that was lost throughout the years as machines basically took over our planet. It sounded at first very Terminator-like but let me tell you that it isn't. He meets Burleigh, a guy who feels less-than because his best friends are all fashion models. Burleigh and Draxl are attracted to each other instantly so it could be said this story has the insta-love trope, which I didn't mind at all.
I got hooked right from the beginning. The way Draxl appears in contemporary earth was quite funny, also his comments about human needs were hilarious too (like using the bathroom). Then the story took a twist that I didn't expect and the whole bunch of guys, Burleigh and his friends, find themselves in a different place.
Draxl was such a romantic guy without even realising and Burleigh couldn't help to just fall head over heels. It was great to read how Draxl gave Burleigh time to adjust and the space the other guy needed to come to terms with the new situation. There were so many futuristic moments that I enjoyed so much as the author explained everything and I didn't feel there was anything left to the reader's imagination. I like that stories make sense, even if they are PRN or fantasy novels.
I loved this book and had such a good time reading it. I can't wait to read the next one in the series because I'm looking forward to the couple that will make the MCs in it.

This is not a BAD book. But it is far too cutesy poopsy for both my own tastes and for the dark and apocalyptic world it’s set in.

Side characters (future himbos?) were honestly just straight up annoying in this. Neither of our mains are himbos. Draxl has a vibrating penis that definitely isn’t taken advantage of in the story.

…just not for me but other people fond of cheesiness and ridiculousness will likely love this.

DNF at 44%. I just can't get into it. Reminds me of one of Leona Windwalker's books, where the author just can't figure out the story she's trying to tell. Weird pacing, random infodumps, big miscommunications quickly resolved, and I just have no emotional attachment to what happens. Disappointing, because the first 10% or so was actually pretty interesting.

I've only just finished this book and can't wait for the second to see how the story progresses. Casey Cox has done a fantastic job at world building as we jump between 2023 and 2387/9, and see just how drastically the world has changed.
Draxl is a really great character, arriving and disappearing in a bright silver flash of light but manages to make a connection with Burleigh. He's seven feet tall and built like a tank, with scales on his arms and a time travel chip on his ribs, but he's such a kind soul, clear in the way he thinks of and treats Burleigh. Burleigh's job has him surrounded by supermodels all of the time and so tends to disappear into the background so it takes a minute for Draxl's focus on and attraction to him to really sink in.
What worked really well for me was how time passes in the scenes. We don't hang around when big chunks of time fly by but focus on all of the important aspects taking place between the two MC's but also in the overall story as Draxl and his friends work to help save humankind from extinction to The Elite. This story is a fantastic mash of a dystopian future, science fiction, comedy, and romance with time travel, found family and the possibility of soulmates. What's not to love? I can't wait to get to know the rest of the Fab Five better.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

The good
    + The I like yous
    + Mutual pining
    + Burleigh herding the himbos
+ Draxl's complete devotion to Burleigh
+ The honesty in their communication
+ Draxl making Burleigh feel wanted and loved

The neutral
o Every time reproduction was mentioned, Burleigh spoke about how it needed a man and a woman, instead of an egg and a sperm cell. Being a woman doesn't equal having a uterus, and being a man doesn't necessarily mean having testicles and a penis
o None of the himbos were particularly likable. They all seemed rather egotistical, except maybe the one himbo that was closest to Burleigh
o Everyone had such weird names, that I forgot who was who the second I finished reading a sentence. To me, all the himbos are one person, because I couldn't tell them apart as I kept forgetting their names

The bad
    - The plot made no sense at all and I don't think the author knows exactly where this is supposed to go. The life force is apparently linked directly to sexual arousal based on a connection with another person. Do asexual people not get/have a life force? This life force also seemed to be a metaphor for semen, which makes the whole sharing-the-life-force thing even weirder than it already was
    - These extremely powerful and super smart robots who were taking over the future didn't have any surveillance in their prisons, and neither did they block communication signals. That did not fit at all with their supposed power and intelligence
    - Burleigh spent weeks alone in that prison, and he mentioned that the only reason he made it through was because he had Draxl to speak to. But that guy who was separated from him and imprisoned even longer didn't seem to have all that much emotional trauma. This weird mix of dystopian themes and lighthearted storytelling didn't always work, because some things are just too heavy to wave away with a smile and a joke

Quotes
"I'm on a mission to save the human race. Sentient machines are on the brink of taking over. If I don't have sex with you right now and reignite the male capability to generate our long-lost life force, return home, and perform a transference with the brotherhood, the machines will win and humanity will be destroyed forever."

"Ooh, au fait. He's tall, hot, muscly, scaly, and French," Rigby coos.
"Don't be a dumbass," Courtland chides him. "He could be Canadian."
"They don't speak French in Canada."
"What language do they speak, then?"
    "Canadian, duh."

Oh my God, are future-humans' buttholes all sewn up? I'm not sure what the correct etiquette here is. Would it be rude to ask Draxl if he has a butthole?

"You know what they say," Manning chimes in. "The way to a man's heart is through his ass."

I've certainly never read anything like this before. The plot makes no sense and the lighthearted vibes are often out of place, but it was enjoyable enough regardless. This book was about the himbo herder, so the next ones will be about the himbos themselves I assume. I hope I'll manage to remember who is who by then... Anyway, would recommend if you're looking for something different and don't really mind there are more plotholes than buttholes.

Wow, let me tell you first. I am a huge Casey Cox fan so when this ARC came available? I said yes. But this book is like no other book I’ve read by Casey, and I will be honest and say it took me quite a while to get into the book, but when the book grabbed me, I could not put it down.
Draxl has come from the future in hopes of finding his soul mate. Thankfully he manages to jump successfully and wind up in America at fashion show. Everyone around him thinks he’s clothing is really rad but most of it was ruined in the jump, but he was glad he was getting away with it. He walks round in hope of finding his soulmate and catches sight of a man that gets him vibrating. He’s within a group of men but Draxl only have eyes for him. When he goes to the bar Draxl follows, they get talking and Burleigh seems to think that he is trying to get an invite to the hottest five male models that he assists but no, he is very honest when he tells him what he wants. HIM Burleigh takes Draxl at face value and takes him to a private, when they kiss it’s like magic they are meant to be. Draxl explains his mission. But before Draxl can explain he runs off and disappears from Burleigh’s life.
Now two years later something happens to change everything. Can they be together can they help mankind??
I’ve got to say that the connection that these two have is just brilliant there’s so much confusion in different times and how the world had changed, that the questions just make you chuckle. But these two just can’t keep their hands off each other. There’s something really special about their connection for sure.

I cannot wait for the second book in the series exciting times to come.

No. Just don't. No matter how fun you think this might be, turn around and read something else. Anything else.

Was I expecting masterpiece literature? No. Was I expecting to be entertained with a silly book? Yes. Sadly, I was bored out of my head for 80% of the book and cringing and wondering WTF the other 20%.

We start off with a human from the future traveling to present times and meeting his soulmate. Then the soulmate and his buddies all get transported into the future and imprisoned - separately so there is no interaction between characters. Then we are subjected to the most boring and monotonous content ever as MMC1 is sitting in prison and talking to MMC2 via a 'holo-viz' (future facetime) forever and ever and ever and ever. MMC1 is rescued by MMC2 and they bone and then they search for the others. The end.

This could have been a fun 75 page short story. Instead, we got this mess by the author being completely unable to world build and write characters that make any kind of sense. Seriously, we are 300+ years in the future and the author talks about driving cars and traveling to Thailand takes at least three flights. Cyborgs are supposedly taking over the world and destroying humanity and you mean to tell me they haven't figured out better travel?

The dialogue is awful, the inner monologues are worse. I will not read this author again.

This is a new side to Casey's storytelling and I loved it. It was a bit cheesy, a lot of action, a dash of time travel, and some really tragic backstories! For this being a fun himbo based apocalyptic story, there was still a fair amount of emotions involved, especially as Burleigh and Draxl (not to mention the other side characters) both have some pretty messed up things happen to them in the past. Burleigh's learned to not trust anyone and Draxl's had to grow up pretty fast. I absolutely laughed at some the items that the future majority-humans found confusing or disgusted by. Meanwhile, I want the Fab Five to be saved and more of their interactions! The dialogue when all of them are together is incredibly fun.

If you're looking for something a bit off the beaten path, then I think you should give this one a try. The characters are really something special and the world building is well done. I can't wait to learn more about what exactly happened to bring humanity into the state it is in 2398. Ulys (Burleigh's best friend) looks like he may be up next and he also deserves a soulmate. In between modified humans and evil AI is a story about saving humanity and the importance of love, what it means to be human, and the strength of found family!

this book was not what I expected, but it definitely surprised me. The world created by Casey Cox draws heavily on science fiction classics, from the Matrix to the Terminator, with a nod also to Avatar and even Highlander II (the one with the earth surrounded by a barrier against the sun's harmful rays).

Initially I had many questions and certain situations seemed absolutely absurd. But even Burleigh had strong doubts and asked Darxl just the right questions to gradually unveil an extreme, harsh world, at times devoid of humanity.

It is a book at times slow especially in the period of Burleigh's imprisonment, but with numerous funny moments when Darxl does not understand certain peculiarities of the men of the past.

It is a story that is at times absurd, contradictory and confusing, but also entertaining. And let's not forget the reflections on the future of our earth - in this book Darxl did not explain exactly what happened to transform the earth and humanity so radically, but a few clues did slip through.

Let's see what happens in the next book in the series.

Casey Cox has a fun writing style, and he's come up with a great and varied set of himbos, so I'm looking forward to a whole series of stories arising from this beginning chapter.

The plot is future-apocalyptic. AI (can you get more current?) has fulfilled its evil promise and led humanity to near extinction. Draxl, of the year 2387, travels back in time to reawaken "the human life force"--basically the ability to enjoy things like food, love and specifically sex. On his last-ditch effort to save humanity (and experience a romantic orgasm), he meets Burleigh, the personal assistant of a quintet of male supermodels. When the evil, human-like Elite pull Burleigh and his cohort into the future, Draxl and his rebel friends must locate and rescue them.

In this first book, Cox spends a lot of time world building, especially in dialog as Draxl and Burleigh communicate through a sci-fi Zoom sort of way. That slows down the action. Hopefully as the next episodes appear, Cox will be able to set things in motion quicky and let his excellent sense of humor have more free rein. And we've just got to have more time with the himbos, because they are a hoot.

What an entertaining book! Draxl is on a very important mission from the future to try and restore humanity. On his 37th mission, he finally finds what he's looking for. Burleigh is a PA for the "Fab Five", a group of models that test his patience, but are also his found family. He is surprised that smoking hot Draxl seems focused on him instead of his extremely gorgeous friends. When Draxl reveals what he needs from Burleigh, he is ALL IN, but the encounter prematurely ends (giggle) before it can reach full completion when Draxl is pulled back to his time. When Draxl and Burleigh finally reunite, there is chaos, questions, and finally some understanding. I loved the Fab Five and the quirky things that they deem important at the strangest of times. The connection between Burleigh and Draxl is extremely hot and I loved the way Draxl's body responds to Burleigh. These two may be from different times but they definitely belong together!

This was completely different from almost anything I have read before but it was so good! The world building in this story was outstanding and so complex. I loved seeing all the different characteristics of society that Casey Cox created in the future as well as the technologies they possessed. Although apocalyptic stories are not usually my thing, I knew it would be a phenomenal book with Casey Cox as the author and I am so glad I gave it a chance! Burleigh was a cinnamon roll of a human with a steel core. Seeing him working so hard to help Draxl save the human race was amazing and it was clear that he was not someone to be messed with. Draxl was a very interesting character, not just because he was "from the future." His devotion to not only his people but Burleigh and his friends was so admirable. I am excited for the next books in the series and will be excited to see what happens next!

I am such a fan of Casey Cox, yet had some trepidation and doubts whether I would enjoy this book. It took me quite a while to settle in, as it was so much out of my comfort zone, yet the writing style was so Casey. So, I was sitting at a 3 star rating. My thoughts were that I would be disappointing Casey by not appreciating his new venture, that I had to continue. Please note, no communication to or from the author, I just felt I had to persevere. Maybe it was the optimism of Burleigh and his caring nature of the Fab Five.

As I continued, my perspective changed and I kept on being drawn to the outcome of the others. Were they alright (as alright as one can be in this situation), were they being used as lab rats (that's what happens in sci-fi doesn't it) or were The Elite messing with my mind? Will I pick up book two to find out what happens to Klune and Ulysses, heck yeah!

I received a copy and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I really liked the premise of this book - futuristic Mad Max style MM romace. The story was very interesting with the world building and scientific thought that has gone into it, especially the human enhancements. I also enjoyed the characters and the humour brought about by the "himbo's" banter. Given the title I did expect to see more of the himbos and for the story to have the humour spaced out consistently, however I felt there was a big chunk in the middle of the book that was a lot more serious. I understand that there needed to be some relationship development between the two MC's, however the 'captivity' section seemed to drag a little too long for my liking. I am intrigued to see where the author takes the overarching plotline, so will most likely read book 2 when it is available.

This book was, as a start of a new series, full of world building that took up much of the time that usually this author would devote to the romance. It was interesting for a change of pace. I don’t know if there will be enough interest for it to continue as an entire series, but maybe as a series of novellas? They seem to be Casey’s strength.

I am not typically a fan of science-fiction, because the setting and action takes so much away from the romance. But I did like the two main characters and the humor that was sprinkled in. Casey Cox’s style made it appealing. I did find the ending to be rather abrupt.

I love Casey’s books and this one did not disappoint. Draxl is from the future who needs to find his soulmate in order to save humanity. This is now his 37th jump and was told by the scientist Klune there might be problems. He met Burleigh at an after party with his 5 model friends. When Burleigh finally believed Draxl that it was him he wanted, they went to a spot but before finishing, Draxl disappeared. This is great dystopian world building at it finest. Great chemistry, high heat and action. Cannot wait to read more.

This book was interesting and a unique take on the potential consequences of our increasing dependence on technology. It started out fun and funny but then there was a loooong kind of boring part in the middle with Draxl and Burleigh getting to know each other via the future version of video chat. Which is great and all, but just drug on a bit for my taste. The pair has pretty decent chemistry but all kinds of things come up to prevent them from connecting. I’m not sure if I will keep up with this series or not.

Well Done!

This is my first time reading a sci-fi romance book. It isn’t my cup of tea, but I enjoy the author, Casey Cox’s other books, so figured why not. I must say I enjoyed Draxl. Cox did a good job setting up the futuristic Apocalyptic world. There is the typical light hearted humor that you get from Cox’s books, as well as, steamy scenes. Over all I enjoyed this book. If you are a fan of Casey Cox, definitely give it a try. If sci-fi romance is your thing, then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this book as well.

I loved Draxl by Casey Cox. I loved Burleigh and Draxl's story. I loved the plot and how the story progressed. I loved the Fab Five and Burleigh's best friend, Ulysses. I'm excited to see which of Drax's family members end up with each of Burleigh's family members if the author decides to make this into a series, which he should since there are questions that need to be answered, like does the Fab Five and Ulysses make it home to their year? What happens with The Elite and the Council of Unknown? Do the Fab Five get rescued? I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

A complete waste of three days

This was undoubtedly the worst novel I’ve read this year (and I’ve read a LOT). Zero plot to speak of, a lot of saying the same thing over and over again (I call this Danielle Steele syndrome, and is a sure-fire tell that the author isn’t experienced at story telling), and the biggest sin of all - dragging a dull and uneventful story out so much that you didn’t even bother finishing writing it, but instead force readers to be subjected to another book of the same drivel. No thanks. I won’t be wasting any more time on novels by this “author.”

What a fun, dystopian, love story. Definitely some chuckle moments too. Really unique ideas in here, not a been there, done that storyline. Very engaging. Fabulous characters - the Fab Five are hilarious. You don't get to 'meet' Draxl's family in great detail, but there are enough snippets to whet your appetite. What a great start to this series - cannot wait for the next book.

This was such a different style from what Casey usually writes and nothing like what I usually read. I was hesitant at first since I usually only read contemporary, but I love everything Casey writes, so I figured I'd try it. I'm so glad I did. The story was intriguing and easy to follow. I never got lost or confused, and I didn't want it to end. Book 2 will be a continuation, and I can't wait to find out what happens next.

A phenomenal tale!

I loved this book! The story of Draxl and Burleigh is sweet and sassy and a bit crazy but oh so good! It’s different from all the other books I’ve read by Casey but I absolutely loved it and I hope there is more to come as I really want to know what’s happening with Burleigh’s friends!

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

Everything you love about a Casey Cox book with a tasty new sci-fi flavor

Funny, charming, sweet, lovable characters with complex backstories, and a compelling plot to bring it all together. As debuts into sci-fi go, we couldn't have asked for better. Draxyl is the beginning of what's sure to be one heck of a ride.

Apocalyptic Himbo? I'm in. A wild and crazy new world where humanity is threatened by machines, but the same low angst writing style from this author. The human adaptations are unique and fun, but no food or drinks? I'm with Burleigh that no food or drink is tragic.

I'm very much looking forward to more in this series!

Wonderfully Original

Such a fun read. With an original, albeit complex plot, Draxl is a sweet, fairly low-angst, steamy MM post-apocalyptic romance. The characters are great fun and have distinctive voices, and the MCs’ relationship develops fabulously. I grinned the entire time. I seriously hope this becomes a whole series.

“Ulys”? That is the most ungainly nickname ever created by an author.

This is such a mess: it would’ve made a great short story, surprisingly, but then got dragged out and rolled in the mud for 200+ pages, with no resolution at the end, just another jumping off point for the next book… which I will definitely NOT be reading. I skimmed so much of this one due to the endless internal monologuing

Wow, I could not put this book down! I loved it from the first page to the last. Draxl and Burleigh are great characters and their story is full of interest, humour and heat. I can’t recommend this book highly enough, and hope the author doesn’t keep us waiting too long for the sequel.
