I loved this, as the period is Elizabethan and the setting is the Lake District. He wonderfully evokes the beauty of the fells and farming life, interwoven with a mysterious London person in the pay of Walsingham, with intermediary. Link with theatre as references to Marlowe and Greene who criticised Shakespeare. Clever ending. A bit like the Herries series, but much better written - Sutton is very very good and I want to read more. Would make a good film or series.
