Read this book. It was ultra boring at first but got better once my mind settled in. It goes over all the ITIL phases and processes. Read the book and passed the test. Lost one star for being ultra boring, and lost another star for being too long. The book was definitely way, way more wordy than it had to be.

Although I would rather be reading something for pleasure than for certification preparation, this book wasn't all that bad. In fact, in comparison to the previous ITIL certification prep book I read, this book was a downright page-turner! There are several high points in this book that I think should be mentioned. First, this book has been updated to the most recent ITIL 2011 edition. I appreciated the fact that the authors didn't allow the ITIL v3 edition to be the end of the book. As I am studying for the 2011 edition, these seemingly small updates are quite large. Second, I found that the book was fairly well structured. The introduction was not overwhelming because a lot of the concepts had been placed in subsequent chapters. The chapters covered all of the ITSM life cycle stages with their processes and functions. These were each presented in small chunks so that one chapter didn't seem to overwhelm an other chapter. Finally, I thought that the practice questions at the end of each chapter were effective in helping me to ensure that I am retaining this information, which I will need for the certification exam. If you're preparing to take the ITIL 2011 Foundation exam, I believe this book would be good for you.

This is not one of the most interesting books in the world, but it did help me getting through my foundation certification. For one study book I expected more comprehensive approach, maybe with more practical examples. And there are not many of them, it is more like a fact book, with summary of the core publications. If you want to pass your exam quickly, I cannot recommend it, maybe it is better to find an online course or something like that. On the other hand, it does cover every topic from the syllabus, so if you have a couple of weeks to dedicate to it and really understand the knowledge it offers, go for it.

I started preparation for the ITIL Foundation exam using an online CBT based training course. It went through the material at a painfully slow pace and I felt I didn't understand the overall picture.

I then decided to drop the CBT based training and buy an old fashioned text book. This gave me a level of understanding that I would not have achieved through the CBT course.

There are 13 chapters with 10 questions at the end of all but one chapter to check your understanding. Read through each chapter and answer the questions. Go through the two practice papers provided in the Appendix and you should be fully prepared to take the exam.

Dry and with plenty of eye-roll inducing buzzwords, this guide will more than prepare you for the exam. The foundation test was a breeze after finishing this book and completing the included sample exams. Overall, a great introduction to ITIL and IT service management, but the subject matter is quite dull.

If you are working in IT and want to understand what is happening in your department and what all your bosses are talking about, the ITIL Foundation course is fantastic. I feel I have a much better understanding of the department's direction and how I can contribute to its success.

After reading this study guide cover to cover, I earned the V3 foundations certification with a 90% after only using 12 minutes of the 60 allowed for the exam. The authors use clear concise language that is easy to follow.

It presents the information in a logical way that is easy to understand and assists with passing the exam. That's really all you need out of a book like this. Good enough.

I passed the EXIN ITIL foundation exam this morning with a grade of 83% using only this book and no other form of training, other than some practice exams. It took me about 3 weeks in total, but it could definitely be done faster.

So the book is clearly good enough, but is no easy read. With very few real world examples and a tendency to repeat the same information many times, this is one of the most boring read I had to go through for a certification.

Thankfully, the material is divided into 13 relatively short chapters (each with their own set of questions at the end) makes it easier to go through. Also, the 4 practice exams (2 in the book, 2 in the downloaded app) and flashcards will give you a solid insight into what the exam looks like.

I would use this book again if I had to go through the training, but I'm happy that I don't!

It is a good reference for the ITIL V3 Foundation exam, it explains into detail some topics beyond the objectives. The problem was the new ITIL upgrade to V4 this year where the transition from cascade to agile, when I finished this book my manager told me they would pay for my exam if I applied for the V4, for that reason I have to study again from scratch, it is true some procedures map to some practices but in summary I have to invest other 3 months approximately for getting my ITIL V 4 Foundation certification.

Great technical book for ITIL foundation training. Read it from cover to cover and planning on starting second round tomorrow.

The practice test in each chapter reinforce/validate the material presented in the chapter.

Additional software that is available to test skills is a great bonus.

I would recommend this book.

It's very dry. And I doubt company ever use ITIL since everyone moving towards lean. The information and knowledge provided is good to know but not necessary.

Overall a good guide to get prepared for the exam imo. To me it's missing more real life examples to really be an enjoyable read. The ITIL material is rather dry without some examples to put it into perspective - that doesn't happen very often in this book.

Missed opportunity imo. Other than that you'll get what you paid for. You can take the exam after going through the guide. If you can answer all the prep questions you're going to pass the exam most likely.

Not an easy read. Had to read another book, watch videos, and look online to better understand this book.
