I picked up this book as my continuous effort to understand the climate crisis from different perspectives. This book by Aakash Ranison does just that.

A book that sums up how different industries contribute to the crisis, it also provides the readers with different resources and solutions that they can adopt in their daily lives. 'I'm A Climate Optimist' brings forward a message that even while Climate Change is like a horror story, there is still hope and if we act on the solutions we have, we might just be able to mitigate the ill-effects of it.

@aakashranison is a writer, sustainability advocate and a climate activist based in India. His book 'I'm a Climate Optimist' is one of the most well researched book on climate change and sustainability I've ever read. Many thanks to @penguinindia for sending the book over!

This book is divided into several chapters, each chapter focuses on a different sector, like, textiles, transportation, tourism, technology, plastic, cosmetics etc. All the chapters are structured into four major parts - cause, effect, solutions and references for further reading. These resources include links to books, documentaries, ted talks, shops and most importantly, pioneers of sustainable living.

Regardless of the heavy topics this book deals with, it was surprisingly easy to read. It's an eye opener of sorts. You can see the far reaching impact you are having on the environment through your actions and sometimes, inactions too. Liberal use of infographics definitely helps to drive the point home.

Author talks candidly about sustainability efforts and what should be done to prevent further damage to our biodiversity and ecosystem. Despite the sense of urgency in its pages it is far from doom mongering as one might come to expect from such books. It's rather hopeful in tone, an optimistic and enlightening read that is inspiring and sobering in equal parts.

'I'm a Climate Optimist' stresses on individual efforts as well as collective ones. Reading this book is the need of the hour. Acting on it is even more important. Give the book a chance and numerous resources provided in it will help you to take your first step towards climate action. Highly recommended from my side.

Practical, informative, impactful and engaging = I am a Climate Optimist: An Easy guide to lead a Sustainable Life

I usually don't read a lot and picked up this book on a friend’s suggestion . I should tell you all i completed the entire book in no time. The writing style is very engaging and approachable breaking down environments problems in a way that is easy to understand .

The book talks highlights all things we all do in our day to day life that are impacting the environment and how we could do things differently to ensure we lead a sustainable life.

After reading the book, I've started looking at things quite differently when I'm out shopping.

These days, I catch myself thinking about whether what I want to buy is environmentally friendly before I actually buy it.

So, for me, I'd say the book really did what it set out to do. It changed how I approach my purchases and made me more conscious about making eco-friendly choices.

I've been living in the mountains for very long. Having lived in the city, I could see a stark difference in lifestyles.
Sustainability became more than a buzzword.

This book managed to capture my thoughts really well. As Aakash said in his, we are deliberately kept away from the consequences of our seemingly small actions.

The read is an eye opener. Facts that you cannot ignore are kept right in front of you. You can literally measure your carbon footprint, and how it just keeps on increasing with every single life decision you make.

I believe change begins with awareness, and Climate Optimist did that for me.

Good book. Useful and insightful for residents of India. Minus one star for the amount of graphs and pictures which are absolutely unreadable.

Picture this: You walk into a store and easily know what NOT to buy. No, not because of the price, but because of the environmental impact of the products.

For example, non-eco-friendly cleaning products or fast fashion clothing

This is just an example, but in this book, you'll find plenty of them. That's the power of this impactful book, which presents numerous eye-opening examples.

I've been following Aakash's (Author) work for a while now, and needless to say, it's exceptional. I follow him everywhere and watched his TED talks. So when I knew he was launching his book, I didn't have second thoughts, I pre-ordered it. I thought he must have included information from his TED talks too. But, oh boy, I was wrong. It's beyond it. Let me tell you how --

1: He divides the book into 10 chapters, and from chp 2 to 8, he speaks of various sectors that are the cause of climate change, like -- Food & beverages, Textiles, Tech, Cosmetics, etc.

2: Again each chapter has 3 parts in common:
> 1st: The questionnaire. It was both fun and guilt filling the questions.
> 2nd: The author dives deep into the negative impacts of each industry, revealing hidden truths and providing insightful infographics. He also offers practical ways for individuals, organizations, and governments to embrace sustainability.
> 3rd: Valuable Resources. If you ever feel you must know more about one sector, this part is for you. He provides - books, ted talks/documentaries, people to follow, shops, and more, with LINKS!

3: Though we say, climate change is a crisis, we hardly treat it like one. This book pushes you to take small initiatives that can make a great impact in the long run. After all, every emission counts.

4: It's beginner-friendly. Even if you're not an expert in climate change, you'll be able to understand the information in this book.

5: It captivates readers with an amazing flow and great storytelling skills.

6: It covers a lot of sectors with a lot of POVs from industry leaders who are embracing sustainability. Eg: Nithin Kamath, Mandeep Manocha, etc.

7: The author is the epitome of "Lead as an example", which is evident throughout and further emphasized on the cover page.

8: It sets itself apart by taking a unique approach, by providing a lot of factual information and thorough research, making it trustworthy and credible. Aakash's dedication to investigating the topic thoroughly gives readers a reliable and solid source.

9: It acts as a wake-up call highlighting the environmental impact of our everyday choices.

10: Lastly, it will make you think twice about the products you buy, the food you eat, and the way you travel. (And, I feel very guilty!)

Overall, a thought-provoking read. Surely makes you panic. Most importantly, motivates you to take a step towards the future.

Worth-reading. Re-read guaranteed!
