IF THEY WON'T LET US BORROW IT...

The odd group of dimension travelers arrives in a country full of magic seeking a book that may hold the key to finding one of Princess Sakura's powerful memory feathers. But the volume they need turns out to be a national treasure, off limits to the public. Now Syaoran, Kurogane, and the others must brave traps, ravenous beasts, and some of the universe's strongest magicians in order to steal the book. When it comes down to enchantments versus martial arts skills, can the team pull off the biggest caper of their career so far?

CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.

In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.

In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.

Yeah, this country is kinda cool with developed magic and libraries..but I need a plot! Repetitivenes is boring. I am happy to see some serious trouble for characters. Hurray for changes !
And I wish Sakura would do something! She just faints and stands back while actual battle and adventure goes on. I know she is powerless for battles but I hate passive female characters.
Let's see what mysteries Syaoran and Fei hold.

Three and a half stars, really. Not a bad three and a half, just didn't grab me as much as some of the four-star ones have.

That, and I didn't love the bit where Sakura's like, "I can't do anything to help!" and Mokona's like, "Yes, you can help!" and I'm like, "Sweet! Finally! Our one consistently-appearing female character can DO SOMETHING!" Then Mokona's like, "You can help by waiting here for them until they get back!" and Sakura's like, "Yes, you're right!" GAH.

I like Princess Sakura - and the other characters, too, of course - but so often, all Sakura does is stand in the background looking pretty and being scared that Sayoran will get hurt as he does crazy battle things. I mean, every time they complete a find-the-feather plot arc, SHE PASSES OUT, not waking up until the party is established in their new world! And no, having vague, unaccessed powers that make you a mystical MacGuffin does not make you a strong female character.

I like that Sakura feels frustrated by her inability to be more useful - I sure would, and it shows she doesn't just take for granted that this is a female role or something - but it would be nice to see more strong female characters in the series. The time-space witch is kind of cool, but doesn't appear often and isn't well-developed. Maybe this is part of the reason I liked that racing arc a few volumes back so much; the girl who organized the race was pretty cool, even if her motivations did end up being really weird.

On a different note, I like that the library guardians here look so much like lions.

Not too crazy about Fai using the "sound magic" with no problem or repercussion. I thought the removal of his tattoo made it so he couldn't use magic? His glib excuse about this being a different kind of magic makes no sense - I'm glad that the other party members seem to agree with me on that, and I'm hoping that this isn't just let slide.

I really liked this plot arc.
Could do without the "You can help by sitting and waiting for the men to do the thing!" bullcrap they keep feeding the girl.

This was a pretty good one, I did enjoy the huge libary! I wish Sakura would get some useful skills as she gets her memories back though. She just stays on the sidelines for the most part. At least in Piffle World she was active in getting her feather back, and she was somewhat in Jade as well. I do get that she xan't fight but still.
Fai can still use his magic! This should turn out to be interesting when he's confronted about it. I want his back story! I'd also like Sayorians!

This book was so hard to read;to me it marks where their fun,*carefree* days end, and the terrible hardships begin. But I still love every page!

I like the concept of this arc, the memory book, and the fire lion guardians (?). Fai's use of sound-magic is interesting, though I wish there had been a little less mystery about it. :P It seems after Kurogane's backstory, I want other backstories!

Review for complete series

Tsubasa is in a way a love letter to all of CLAMP's other works. I went into this having read almost all - definitely all relevant - series by CLAMP, so I can't say for sure, but I think this series is only half as fun if you haven't read the other works (preferably all). If you enjoy Easter Eggs and cameos, Tsubasa is an absolute treat.

For the longest time, Tsubasa was the longest manga series I owned; anything beyond 10 volumes makes me think twice as I find that most lengthy series just drag unnecessarily. However, it was impossible for me to say no to Tsubasa, Sakura and Syaoran from Cardcaptor Sakura have been long-time favourite manga characters of mine, not to mention that I am generally very fond of CLAMP and all their big and small crossovers. Reading a story that combines almost their entire bibliography and with Sakura and Syaoran as the main characters was too good to say no to. It should also be mentioned that this series is heavily interwoven with xxxHolic's plot and should best be read alongside each other.

This Syaoran and Sakura are not the same from Cardcaptor Sakura (although the original Sakura makes a cameo). In essence, this is a story about travelling between dimensions - the same person can exist in different versions of themselves in different universes. Sakura and Syaoran travel between the different worlds - all very different - and meet characters and elements from all across CLAMP's other works. In fact, some characters appear more than once to highlight how the same being can exist and lead a different life in different worlds. It's really fun to see the characters from other stories living different lives, some are funny and some are bittersweet. CLAMP has killed off a fair amount of its characters in other works so it's nice to see some of them leading happier and peaceful lives.

In addition to meeting a whole lot of known characters, there are also a couple of Tsubasa original characters such as Fay and Kurogane who accompany Sakura and Syaoran on their travels. I've grown to love Fay and Kurogane almost as much as I love the other two - so while Tsubasa is very much a homage to other CLAMP works, it's also a very character-driven story with both Fay and Kurogane having intricate and deep personalities. I also have to express my apologies to Kurogane - I always expected not to like him because I'm not very fond of brawns-over-brains type of characters, but I was very wrong about him; great character, smart as well a strong and just a really great guy.

Being a work of CLAMP, it's almost needless to say that the art is beautiful. That being said, this is more of a shounen-esque series which also shows in the art with the somewhat oddly length limbs and a greater focus on action, weapons and muscles. I prefer shoujo art, but the facial art is much the same as other CLAMP works so I can absolutely live with that.

A downside of Tsubasa is plain and simple that it gets confusing. There are time skips, world switching, doubles across different series (xxxHolic) and rather vague motivations from the villain's side. At some point, I just decided to go with the flow rather than trying to make sense of every detail. There's a bit of a loose end, though I wouldn't exactly call it a band ending either. Now that they are working on a sequel, it'll be interesting to see where things will lead to next.

Either way, an absolute gem if you like CLAMP and crossovers, and Sakura, Syaoran, Fay and Kurogane are just a great team of characters - to be fair, Mokona is as much part of the team and deserves a mention too. Finally, I just love these characters.

Capitulo 100-108
* RESUMEN EXPRESS CON SPOILER*

Beneran bikin jadi ingat Harry Potter, deh. Tapi Kurogane bingung karena melihat Syaoran sesaat berubah. Dia bahkan merusak dan membuang Buku Memori padahal Syaoran seharusnya sangat mencintai buku. Syaoran sendiri merasa kehilangan ingatannya sesaat setelah menyentuh Buku Memori.

I love this series! It's my first time reading through it completely. I have watched the anime several times and I was told that at some point the anime deviated from the manga and then the OVA episodes tried to come back to the original content but then was discontinued. This volume seem to be that conjunction. I'm excited to see past where the OVA had ended.

Syaoran seems to be possessed by something or someone which increased his fighting skill, but also made him scary and ruthless. What going on? Has it something to do with his waking doppelganger in some other dimension?

Learning Sakura's feather is within a national treasure, Syaoran and the gang break into the library to remove her memory, only to face the wrath of terrible beasts that will stop at nothing to keep these intruders from their prize! CLAMP amps up the action and suspense in a particularly twisting entry that will keep fans guessing at the outcome. Can our travellers retrieve the feather before they end up as monster chow?!

Not a lot of import occured in this volume of the series, but I still found it entertaining because the crew got to rob a library! Not that I agree with robbing libraries (they really should have asked nicely), but such is life when they're hell-bent on recovering all of Princess Sakura's memory feathers!

New world, new problems! Here the feather of Sakura's memories has been made into a book that let's you see other people's memories and it's under strong protection. Thus, heist time!

So many backstory hints in this volume! And I love + the cultural notes in the translation comments <3

This was fun but quite fast, maybe too fast. There wasn’t much development like usually, it was right to the point (only the beginning in last book was awesome). We do learn a bit more about Fai which I’m happy about tho.
Then we move to a new world and seems to be a dark one!
