I “met” Georg years ago on a braintanning forum Matt Richards was running. I had questions about how to reproduce a specific piece of Powhatan beadwork. Georg kindly provided a lot of useful information, in the course of which he mentioned “my book.” I bought a copy, wore it out, and have since purchased a second copy. The chapter on loose warp bead weaving alone was worth the price of both copies. The product of years of studying original pieces, this book gives excellent advice on material preparation, bead selection, and techniques. He’s got great information on how to interpret colour from black and white photos of beadwork, and how to judge what sizes of beads are used in original pieces. He even talks about how to get the most authentic-looking results with the inauthentic but readily available leathers available today. For anyone who works with Indian beadwork, whether original or reproduction, or anyone interested in making beadwork of any sort, this book is a must-have resource.
