American animator and cartoonist best known for the classic funny animal comic strip, Pogo. He won the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben Award in 1951 for Cartoonist of the Year, and their Silver T-Square Award in 1972, given to persons having "demonstrated outstanding dedication or service to the Society or the profession."
This is one of best runs of Pogo that I've read. He is at his best with animal antics and is only dabbling in stuff like "A bombs" at this point. I love the pointed political bashing but this more "innocent" material is my favorite.
Fewer stories recycled from the Star strips make for an easier read than volume 2. It's not that the recycled stories weren't still good, it's that the publication decision for the first two volumes (the complete Star strips, then the complete syndicated strips beginning in the same volume) made the repetition a little tedious.
