Arthur Conan Doyle lets his imagination loose to craft this tale of murder, a secret society, and the clues that help Sherlock Holmes solve the case.
The final full-length novel in the Holmes and Watson series is reminiscent of the earlier novels in its structure. The first half of the book begins with the crime and the astute detective unraveling the mystery with his faithful companion narrating to the conclusion. The second half contains the events leading up to the crime and introducing a backstory for the major players involved in said crime.
This was a fun read, and I enjoyed the twists and turns within it. Conan Doyle drew upon headlines and tales from America to conjure components, which gave it a greater diversity for themes, settings, and characters. I would recommend it to anyone who has been captivated from past stories since it's another entry for the long career of Holmes and Watson.
