Feels like a summary of many books. Nice to read on a short flight. text in quotes is distilled from the book. rest are my notes.
1. 'Mnemonic Time travel for improving recall' - the backwards thing works (as we know from childhood games) because of the association of thoughts it makes us create, giving us a reason and crutch to store and recall incidents.
2. 'Forgetting is a brain hack to enable us to store and retrieve more relevant/useful things. Use help to organise'
3. 'live long by - drinking alcohol (!), exercising, drinking coffee, being the right weight, spending upto 2 hours everyday in their hobbies'
4. 'Leadership during uncertain times - When brains function at high stress level, even a seemingly innocuous question may seem to imply that a persons capability or status is being questioned. remain positive and remove relation to individual capacity/ status/ ability etc.
Create certainty by sharing information, scheduling in advance etc
offer unexpected autonomy nad flexibility - empower. that is huge positive boost.
Empathy - relate to employees
Emphasise shared goals, fairness and cooperation'
5. 'Reading to kids through dialogic reading' - participative reading encourages lateral thinking, involvement, scenario building and imagination
6. 'Praise your kids for overcoming failure - growth mindset vs fixed mindset' - their abilities to think differently, work hard, improving and growing - effort and not the result or innate abilities
