About the author

Howard A. Norman (born 1949), is an American award-winning writer and educator. Most of his short stories and novels are set in Canada's Maritime Provinces. He has written several translations of Algonquin, Cree, Eskimo, and Inuit folklore. His books have been translated into 12 languages.

a cute story. Very simple but effective graphics

While picking up one of his adult novels, I saw this children's book and decided to give it a try. A retelling of a story told him by a Native American elder, it is a delightful little tale of a young man determined to change his name. There is humor. I didn't love the illustration, which felt like simple cutouts, but that doesn't take away from the book, and many might like them. I could see myself, if I were an elementary educator, offering this book for discussion with my students.
