This was a truly gripping police procedural! DCI Karen Heath and her team are charged with investigating the arson deaths of six members of the Lawson family at their farmhouse in the Yorkshire countryside. The team hits dead end after dead end from the start of their investigation. When the case is finally resolved, I was astonished by the killer's identity. I highly recommend this enthralling book to other police procedural readers. I received an ARC of this book, and the opinion expressed is strictly my own.

best of the series so far

The move to York has clearly been good for Karen Heath. She isn’t acting so rashly and impulsively. This is the first book where she hasn’t done something incredibly stupid and dangerous. Her personal life has definitely improved, thanks to her relationship with Zack and his daughter. This story was well-told and I had no idea who the guilty party was until the end.

So much hate.

Feuding neighbours, six bodies, a burnt out farmhouse.
A mega businessman, who wanted the farm for further expansion.
A grieving family, their daughter severely injured in a horrific car crash, one of the recent dead, the driver - cleared by police, but held accountable by the grieving family.
Well researched, well written, a good read.

Any more in the pipeline?

Another superb novel from this stable. And this time we are investigating just one crime. Arson, but it involves 6 deaths and very little for the team to go on. Karen desperately wants justice but it is a long haul to the finishing line.
We also see the love lifes of both Karen and Jade flourishing. So there is more mileage yet in this brilliant series.

Absolutely brilliant

I chose 5 stars because each book in the DCI Karen Heath series was totally worth it. Each book has been different from start to finish. Each crime meticulously thought through and solved making the writer one of the best in the business. No spoilers from me though. Read all of them. You won't be disappointed.

Flames of Hate Book 8

Another great read, a family destroyed by the hate of another. DCI Karen Heath works hard with her team to solve a case with very little evidence, but she will not give up. Recommend this to all.

Another excellent police procedural by Jay Nadal. I thoroughly enjoy his DI Karen Heath books. In this one, DI Heath is investigating the death of an entire family by a fire that destroyed their home. It is a complex, engaging story with well-developed characters, a beautiful setting,, and plenty of action. Mr. Nadal handles the ensemble cast of police personnel quite well and they have become characters I wouldn't mind knowing in real life.
I look forward to the next book in the series and hope they continue for quite a while.
I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion.
