Rate this book
When bodies are found badly decomposed in the Everglades, teeming with bugs, it is an entomologist’s nightmare. With others unable to crack the daunting case, the FBI calls in its brilliant forensic examiner and entomologist Fiona Red. Faced with the case of her life—and an urgent new serial killer—can Fiona fight back her own demons and solve it before the killer strikes again?

Fiona Red, a brilliant but quirky FBI loner, spends most of her time in the lab or at crime scenes. She comes from a family used to being around death and bodies, her parents having run a funeral parlor, and she would have run the family business if not for a tragedy in her her sister was abducted when she was a teenager, and never found.

Fiona remains determined to crack her sister’s case. But in the meantime, as an FBI agent, she applies her brilliance to catching killers and cracking cases that no one else can, as bugs are the first visitors to dead bodies.

With her FBI partner out in the field, Fiona expects to stay behind the scenes.

But Fiona, obsessed with catching killers, takes it one step too far, and may just find herself in the crosshairs of a killer herself.

A page-turning and harrowing crime thriller featuring a brilliant and tortured FBI agent, the Fiona Red series is a riveting mystery, packed with non-stop action, suspense, twists and turns, revelations, and driven by a breakneck pace that will keep you flipping pages late into the night.

Disclaimer? I still really like this series for the stories themselves. They’re creative and intriguing - I like playing detective right alongside Fiona and Jake. HOWEVER, certain parts of this book contradict each other and some things just don’t make sense; I seriously question who proofread this…

4.5⭐️
This was a good continuation after the last one, I just felt that it was missing something. BUT LEMME TELL YOU. I SO HAPPY MARK IS GONE 🎉🎉🎉. And I'm excited to see Red and Jake finally get somewhere with their feelings. (Ps when they shared a hotel room and he took care of her I SCREECHED)

I pushed myself to get thru this book. It's a chore, they are so formulaic, but I have to find out how the underlying story ends. Also the way the author uses wasps, hornets and bees interchangeably is annoying.

I don’t like bugs

I hâte bugs they make me scream but for some reason I couldn’t put the book down. As engrossing the story was, it was very gripping. Well done

I KNEW IT!! The way they mentioned that fly and how it could cause psychosis. I knew that’s how they would find the killer

Her expertise in play started the book well, and it carried throughout. However, it was just a lucky break. As agents, they did nothing to catch the killer. They had no clue who he was. It just seemed fast and sloppy.

Book 5 of Blake Pierce's Fiona Red suspense thriller series - thank God Mark is finally gone. But look at how a small bug can cause psychosis.
