About the author

Pratibha Ray is an Indian academic and writer. Her search for a "social order based on equality, love, peace and integration", continues, since she first penned at the age of nine. She wrote for a social order, based on equality without class, caste, religion or sex discriminations which are so common in India.

She was formerly a professor in Education and former member of Odisha Public Service Commission. She is one of the leading fiction writers in India writing in her mother tongue Odia. She has several novels, travelogues, short story, poetry and essay collections to her credit. She is the recipient of the Jnanpith Award for her contribution to Indian literature, the Moorti Devi Award, the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Padma Shri given by the Government of India.

ଜଣେ ଲେଖକ ବା ଲେଖିକାଙ୍କର ଗୋଟେ ଗଳ୍ପ ସଂକଳନରେ ସବୁ ଯାକ ଗଳ୍ପ ଭଲ ହେବା ଦୁର୍ଲଭ।
ଚତୁର ଲେଖକମାନେ ନିଜର ଗୋଟିଏ ଗଳ୍ପ ସଙ୍କଳନରେ ତାଙ୍କର କିଛିଟା ଶ୍ରେଷ୍ଠ ସୃଷ୍ଟି ସହିତ ଅଳ୍ପ କେତେଟା ସାଧାରଣ ରଚନା ବି ପ୍ରକାଶ କରି ଦିଅନ୍ତି, ସଂଚୟ କରନ୍ତି ଭଲ ଗଳ୍ପଗୁଡିକୁ ତା'ର ପରବର୍ତ୍ତୀ ସଂକଳନରେ ସ୍ଥାନ ଦେବା ପାଇଁ। କିନ୍ତୁ. ପ୍ରତିଭା ରାୟଙ୍କର ଏହି ଗଳ୍ପ ବହିଟିର ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ଗଳ୍ପ ଅଦ୍ଭୁତ, ଯାହାକୁ କହନ୍ତି एक से बढ़कर एक, ଯେମିତି ଲେଖିକା ଗୋଟେ ନିମ୍ନମାନର ଗଳ୍ପ ଲେଖିବା ଜାଣି ନାହାନ୍ତି। ତା' ଛଡା, ଏଗୁଡିକ ସାଧାରଣ ଗଳ୍ପ ନୁହେଁ। ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ କାହାଣୀ ଆମର ସମାଜର ରୀତି ନିତୀ ଚଳଣି ପ୍ରତି ଗୋଟେ ଗୋଟେ କଟାକ୍ଷ, ପୁରୁଷ ପ୍ରଧାନ ସମାଜରେ ନାରୀର କୁସ୍ଚିତ ସ୍ଥାନ ଉପରେ ପ୍ରଶ୍ନବାଚୀ, ଜାତିପ୍ରଥା, ନିଷିଦ୍ଧ ସମ୍ପର୍କ ସମାଲୋଚ ନା ବିଷୟରେ। କୁମାରୀର କାମନା ହେଉ ବା ସ୍ତ୍ରୀର ବାତ୍ସନା ହଉ, ସମାଜର ସେହି taboo subject ଉପରେ ଲେଖିକା ନିଜର ମନ୍ତବ୍ୟ ଦେବାର କୌଣସି ଉତ୍କଣ୍ଠା ପ୍ରକାଶ କରି ନାହାନ୍ତି। ସାହିତ୍ୟର ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଧାରା ଚିତ୍ରିତ ହେଇଛି ଗଳ୍ପ ଗୁଡିକରେ - magic realism, cynicism, horror, romance, erotica, fantasy ଇତ୍ୟାଦିର ମିଶ୍ରଣ।

ପ୍ରତିଭା ରାୟ ଭଲ ଲେଖନ୍ତି ବୋଲି ଶୁଣିଥିଲି, କିନ୍ତୁ ଏତେ ଭଲ ବୋଲି ଜାଣି ନଥିଲି। ଯାଜ୍ଞସେନୀର ଇଂରାଜୀ ଅନୁବାଦଟା ଥରେ ପଢିବାକୁ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କରିଥିଲି, କିନ୍ତୁ ଏତେଟା appreciate କରି ପରି ନଥିଲି, ଯେତିକି କରିବା କଥା। Translation issue may be. ମୋ' ବୋଉ ଯେତେବେଳେ ମୋତେ ଏ ବହିଟା ମତେ recommend କରିଥିଲା, ସେତେବେଳେ ମୁଁ ଜାଣି ନଥିଲିକି ବହିଟା ମୋତେ ଏତେ ପ୍ରଭାବିତ କରିବ ବୋଲି।
