To Shatter a Slipper

Rate this book
What if the glass slipper fit the wrong girl?

Kirsi Allerednic was never one to enjoy balls, corsets, or fake smiles. She would much rather chat with the charming servant, Caden, than catch the eye of a prince who is already far more interested in a girl with glass slippers. However, her father insists Kirsi takes every opportunity to elevate her status, even when that opportunity comes in the form of a conveniently sized shoe.

When Kirsi discovers she fits the slipper of the prince’s proclaimed love, her father doesn’t hesitate to take advantage of the mistake. Kirsi could always confess that she never met the prince, but her father has threatened to destroy Caden’s life if she dares speak the truth. To protect the ones she loves, Kirsi must steal the life of a nameless girl. It shouldn’t be too difficult to mirror a girl the prince barely knows... unless a mysterious godmother has something to say about it.

Will Kirsi be able to escape what her sole has bound her to? Or will she be forced to steal another’s happily ever after?

To Shatter A Slipper is a retelling of Cinderella. It is one of twelve novellas in The Shattered Tales, a collection of twelve fractured retellings of your favorite fairy tales. They can be enjoyed in any order, so fall in love with the swoony sweet romance, magical adventures, and tale-shattering twists one happily-ever-after at a time!

Super cute!

I just think it was short, I didn’t get enough time to connect with the characters and really feel their emotions and development. Everything was just happening too fast that the emotional part felt off for me. I wanted to savor it a bit, really dig deep and feel the heartache of the situation.

Caden was cute but I really wished to have seen more moments between them, I felt I was reading that they love each other instead of feeling it and seeing it… ya know? Does that make sense…

But absolutely still a really cute book that I would recommend, and the twist on Cinderella was delightful.

What a great book! If you're looking for a regular Cinderella book, this is NOT it! This book was so unique, and I love all the changes! Nothing is what it seems, right down to the Fairy God Mother! Read it, it's wonderful! Love Abigails work! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars!

I love this twist on Cinderella! It has all the familiar elements we know and love—a ball, the slipper, the handsome prince, a fairy godmother—and yet nothing is as expected. Abigail’s signature plot twists are here aplenty, as well as sweet, swoony romance and just the right amount of magic.

You don’t want to miss this one!

Three is the magic number for this review. To Shatter a Slipper by Abigail Manning is the third book I've read from the Shattered Tales series and the third "Cinderella" retelling I read from this author. Despite retelling the same fairy tale so many times, she still manages to find a new twist that makes the book feel fresh and original. This book has a similar plot to Disney's Cinderella III: A Twist in Time in which the infamous glass slipper fits another girl who must work together with Ella to reclaim her happy ending. It fits the theme of the Shattered Tales series because the "Cinderella" story is literally shattered when the glass slipper doesn't fit Ella, and it's an unexpected perspective swap that acknowledges and celebrates Cinderella's kind and gentle nature.

Kirsi has no interest in marrying a prince. She's more concerned with the restrictions her father placed on her relationship with Caden, a servant at the palace. Just when she thinks she found a spend time with him without her father's knowledge, the glass slipper prince's betrothed impossibly fits her own foot. She tries to protest and tell everyone it was a mistake, but her father won't let her. Not only that, but he tells her that if she doesn't marry the prince, he will get Caden fired, forcing him to fend for himself on the streets. Kirsi feels she has no choice but to go along with her father's wicked scheme. To make matters even worse, Cinderella's fairy godmother curses Kirsi so that any time someone sees her reflection, it shows Ella instead. When Caden learns of everything that transpired, he forms an unlikely friendship with Ella to help her reclaim her happy ending so that he and Kirsi can be together.

Despite the similarities to Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, this story stands on its own due to some key differences. There is no time travel or magic involved in the wicked scheme. Kirsi is not Cinderella's stepsister but instead, an ordinary girl with the misfortune of being stuck with a father who is as evil as Cinderella's stepmother. The prince takes a less proactive role in this story. Although it is meant to be a deconstruction, it sticks to the original stereotype that the prince knew nothing about Cinderella and fell in love after dancing with her for only a few moments at the ball. Though he immediately assumes that the first person who fits the slipper is the same girl without question, it is still established that Ella is his true love. Many modern "Cinderella" adaptations have challenged this trope by having Cinderella and the prince know each other beforehand with the slipper as a mere formality. Still, it's easy to forgive this transgression because it is more Kirsi's story than it is Ella's.

This book is significantly shorter than the other two "Cinderella" adaptations I've read by Abigail Manning. It is a perfect read for someone who doesn't have a lot of free time and needs a quick fairy tale fix or has a long list of books they are trying to get to. Considering its low page count, it does an excellent job of giving Kirsi a complete character arc from a submissive victim who feels she has no choice but to comply with her father's orders to someone who decides to take charge of her own destiny. Ella doesn't have the same arc and needs help every step of the way, but she isn't ostracized for this weakness and instead celebrated as a hard-working and deserving heroine. Caden is a great supporting character who uses his words to help Kirsi and Ella see the wrong of their parents' ways and how important it is to make things right for their future happiness.

In To Shatter a Slipper, Abigail Manning masterfully shatters the traditional Cinderella narrative, crafting a fresh and original tale that celebrates kindness, self-discovery, and the power of friendship. Through Kirsi's journey, Manning skillfully explores themes of agency, consent, and the importance of taking control of one's destiny. While Ella's story is expertly woven throughout, Kirsi's transformation from a victim of emotional abuse to a determined heroine is the true magic at play. With its concise yet impactful storytelling, this book is a must-read for anyone seeking a quick yet satisfying fairy tale fix. Manning's unique spin on the classic Cinderella tale will leave readers enchanted, inspired, and perhaps even a little bit shattered – in the best possible way.

I love Cinderella. I love the Rags to Riches story. I love the tale where the nice and kind girl eventually gets the rich and handsome guy. I was therefore really curious about this story. It's a twist I don't think I've ever seen before, although loads of people have probably wondered "what if". I was therefore very glad I got an arc for this book.

The author clearly put a lot of thought into this book. All pieces of the puzzle fall into place at the end of the book but the pieces of the puzzle are spread throughout the entire story. Everything happens with a reason and the eventual reveals don't come out of nowhere but have clearly been built up very well from the very start.

I also really liked the heroine of this story. She might not have grown up as a mistreated servant in her own house, but it's clear that despite her riches she has her own crosses to bear. At the beginning of the story she therefore feels powerless, but during the story she slowly starts finding her voice and learns what's really worth fighting for.

And although this story is told from an original perspective and although the author added some amazing new twists and turns, the original tale of Cinderella is also still there. I really loved it though that the fairy Godmother has gotten a slightly bigger role. At times she's hilarious, but she's also the one helping our heroine to grow into her own person.

I'm already really looking forward to the rest of the series!

Fun retelling of Cinderella! I love that it wasn't from Cinderella's point of view. This was a completely clean story that I feel completely comfortable letting my preteen read. I would have liked if it had been longer and able to develop the characters further, but I enjoyed it as is. This was a new author for me and I am excited to try out some of her other works.

Fairy tale retellings are one of the genres I am unable to resist, and when I discovered a collection of 12 books called The Shattered Tales, I knew I would aim to read a tale per month. I started with this one because it is how I found the collection, and I had never read a Cinderella retelling before.

How would the story change if the glass slipper fit another girl? Author Abigail Manning explores this idea by having her retelling focus on Kirsi Allerednic, the daughter of one of the wealthiest men in the Kingdom. Her father desires the status of their family to join with that of royalty and does everything he can to ensure Kirsi is viewed as a suitable match for the prince. Kirsi finds the clothes and lifestyle of the royals to be too constricting and has no interest in the prince. She would much rather spend time with the thoughtful and charming Caden, now working in the palace after being dismissed from her father’s house due to their friendship.

When the prince becomes utterly captivated by a mysterious girl at his masquerade ball, who leaves only a glass slipper behind, he vows to marry whomever the shoe fits. To Kirsi’s surprise, the shoe fits her perfectly, and she dare not disobey her domineering father despite her initial misgivings. As Kirsi reluctantly settles into life at the palace, she is visited by a godmother who places a curse on her that reminds her the life she is living has been stolen from another. Kirsi desperately wants to right the situation, but when her father threatens those she holds dear, she has to make decisions.

The author did a fantastic job of retaining the components we know so well yet also making the story feel fresh and completely her own. Kirsi is a wonderful heroine who is grounded with compassion for others and determination but also faces internal conflicts due to her situation. Her growth and how she navigates her struggles were two of my favorite aspects of the story. This was a strong start to the collection, and I eagerly await diving into my next tale!

Oh my stinkin goodness! This book was a hot cup of tea on a cool, rainy day.
This is the “first” book in the Shattered Tales, a Cinderella retelling. It’s also my first Abigail Manning book.
Kirsi was an extremely interesting character. Her willingness to take hits so others wouldn’t have to was sweet, but I loved how the godmother showed her that it may not be best. Her love for the simple life was delightful. I loved her relationship with Caden as well as Ella and Dominic after the matter.
Caden was amazing. He was charming and witty, but also willing and willful. He wanted the best for Kirsi, but pushed her to find the truth.
I also enjoyed all the Cinderella aspects, including the twists. The godmother, while a bit annoying, had good intentions and a good ending result. The theme, as aforementioned, was unique but well done.
The romance was so adorable. The banter was amazing and the flashbacks/buildup was on point.
So much of this was just a delight!

Content: godmothers (like Disney), mentions of witches (in a negative manner), minor violence (lightly detailed), kisses and romance (barely semidetailed)

I always love a good Cinderella retelling, but this one stood out in my mind for several reasons!
First of all, this isn't Cinderella's story (though our favorite heroine plays an integral role.) This story is about the girl who is mistaken for Cinderella and very nearly steals Cinderella's happy ending. I enjoyed reading how Kirsi finally gained the courage to stand up to her father and tell the truth. The love story between Kirsi and the servant, Caden, is sweet, realistic, and throws the much-hated "miscommunication trope" out the window. Kirsi is honest with Caden, her true love, about why she was making the choices she made in order to protect him, rather than just letting him believe she doesn't love him. Also...there's a unique and ingenious "curse" from Cinderella's fairy godmother that I felt really showcased Kirsi's character arc well.

This was a very unique spin on the Cinderella story, with the MC a girl forced to take Cinderella’s place and true love. It’s a cute and fairly short story.

The ‘true love’ between Dominic and Cinderella is absolutely ridiculous and borderline mocking (a couple hours dancing and gazing into each other’s eyes and BAAM, true love). The actual romance between Kirsi and Caden has a bit more depth, but only because they had off page history.

I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone looking to fill an evening with light, fairy tale entertainment.

Content:
There’s no foul language, sex, or violence. The romance is super clean with only a couple chaste kisses. There are multiple abusive parental figures (verbal, emotional, and some physical). There is no mention of faith or God. There is magic and the MC is cursed.

I enjoyed this book. It was a really interesting take on cinderella, she wasnt the main character, though she was very important to the story itself. We follow Kirsi who never wanted to be a princess and who hated all the frills and obligations that came with her station yet was forced to pretend to be cinderella and become engaged to the prince. For once readinv this type of storyline I wasnt constantly questioning why the characters made stupid decisions, Kirsi genuinely made the best choices she could at the time. Did half of them turn out terribly? yes but I couldnt see other options. The villains in this story were proper villains, irredeemable and utterly believable unfortunately. The only thing about this book was the love intrest, Caden just felt a little flat to me, especially in comparison to some of the other characters. Overall though an enjoyable book.

This isn’t your childhood Cinderella for sure! Yes, there is a prince, Ella is in the story, and there is a HEA.

Welcome to The Shattered Tales. Your childhood fairy tales thrown up in the air and become so much more.

This one starts the same, a ball, a handsome prince, a masked girl that takes the prince’s breath away, but the road shatters from there.

Come along and read how Kristi, Caden, Ella, and Prince Dominic’s stories intertwined and who gets that HEA I mentioned.

I loved this story so much. I am a sucker for a retold fairytale, and when shattered, so much more fun! Great for YA readers and adults like me that are young at heart!

This was a fun, quick read. I loved the new take in this Cinderella retelling. This one had lots of unique twists and turns. There are so many things I don’t want to spoil because it’s so unique. The added villain to the story mad for lots of emotions! I loved how brave and loyal the FMC was and her connection with Caden. I could definitely relate and connect to her character. The ending caught me by surprise in the best way! I love Manning’s writing, she did a beautiful job!

Content:

Language: None.

Violence: Mild. There is one instance where one character hits another, and some blood depicted, though not gratuitous. Most of the violence is threatened, or happens 'off screen'

Sexual: Mild. Very clean, kissing and hugging is it.

CW: Being a Cinderella retelling, there are some truly horrible parental portrayals here. Abusive both physically, mentally, and toxic manipulation as well as attempted gaslighting depicted. There is (mild spoiler).

This was an interesting way to tell Cinderella. It doesn't follow Ella, but another girl entirely. Kirsi is a noble-born girl with the most helicopter of helicopter fathers. She doesn't get to choose anything or even speak for herself. It's distressing. But to my relief she's still her own person and the whole plot of the book forces her to make some hard choices.

It's understood right away who Kirsi is going to end up with, and the entire plot hinges on her father's manipulation of her compassion and love for others. It was despicable to see the level of sociopathic evil portrayed between Kirsi's father and Ella's stepmother. The twist at the end was very well done and mildly surprised me, which doesn't happen often.

Although the Godmother in the story irritated me greatly. She could have put everything right but chose to make everyone suffer for no reason I could figure out. It felt like a major plot device to drive the tension and the poor Godmother was sacrificed to the plot.

Kirsi also suffered a bit to drive the plot. She had some moments that pulled at believable reaction for me. But it can be said that's what a girl in a stressful threatening position would do. I struggle to believe that all rational thought goes out of the heads of some characters in high stress situations, because I do the opposite. My thinking speeds up, gets coldly logical, and I problem solve like a champ. I fall apart later. So whenever I read a character who doesn't come up with even a small plan for the immediate issue, I side-eye it.

It was an enjoyable read all in all, and I look forward to continuing the series.

First read by Abigail. Will not be the last.
This was a super cute and super fast read. Enjoyed it in one sitting.
What a novel concept!! I liked the twists and turns. Although somewhat predictable, it was such a clever and delightful read! I kept screaming, "what about the OTHER shoe?!" Well, we find out about the other shoe! Such fun!
If you haven't read it, what are you waiting for?! A sign...here it is. GO READ IT!

Oh, wow. This book was amazing!
What a unique twist on Cinderella with Kirsi's (our MC) Father being the wicked/stepmother figure!

What I Liked:

⭐Our MC: Kirsi was such a awesome lead, and I love that she didn't fit with the sterotype of falling-for-the-prince-because-of-an-accidental-marraige/meeting-when-an-other-girl-loves-him.' Because I cannot express enough how much I hate that trope. I love that Kirsi stayed loyal to Caden all the way!

⭐The Twist: I love the fact that this retelling was told from a noble lady in the crowd's POV instead of the ol' stepmother/stepsister/Cinderella POVs. Kirsi was not Cinderella and she didn't pretend to be.

⭐ Cinderella as a Side-Character: Although a major side-character Cinderella was absolutely a side-character and not the MC. Kirsi was actively working to get Ella back to her prince, and Ella's story played out very much like it did in the fairy tale except for the obvious twist. There were a couple of details, yes, such as but really, Ella's story stayed true to it's original. We were focused on Kirsi and Kirsi only. This was her story and I loved it.

What I Didn't Like:

⭐ Caden: While I didn't dislike his character, exactly I just felt that he was never fleshed out much. He just seemed like a super one-dimensional character. I just cannot stand even with side-characters so having our love interest like that was just...nope. I don't feel like I as a reader got much of him or his personality except he supposedly loved Kirsi ✨ So ✨ much.

⭐ The Romance: This is probably Caden's fault. But also one moment is seemed like they'd been in love since before Caden got fired (and even then I'd still like to see that because all I got was ✨besties✨) and then they're like...nah. Yeah, probably Caden's fault.

Content:

Romance: Clean. A couple of mildly descriptive kisses.

Language: I don't recall any bad language.

Violence: Glass being shattered, a mother pulls her daughter's hair (two guesses who that was), some minor injuries, and some mild signs of physical abuse. All not descriptive and more implyed then actually present.

Conclusion

All that being said this book was great and I totally recommend it.

I'd say it would be appropriate for ages 11+

I'm now off to read the next book: To Betray a King
Hope it's as good as this one was!

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book in The Shattered Tales collection, which is made up of 12 standalone books by 12 different authors. The book's blurb lets you know what to expect. It's an excellent twist on the classic Cinderella tale told through Kirsi's pov.

I'll admit that Cinderella is my least favorite Disney princess so I find the retellings interesting and the author didn't disappoint with her take on it. The story was centered around Kirsi, the wrong girl who fit the glass slipper, so that was an original and refreshing spin on it. Kirsi is a young girl who has to make a decision that she doesn't want to for the sake of protecting Caden, her friend. It was impossible not to feel for the hopelessness of her situation and feel her frustration and resignation. I liked seeing how the weight of her decision hit her as the story progressed and how she learned to find her voice to stand up for what was right.

The romance had a slight forbidden aspect to it as Kirsi was supposed to be with the prince yet her thoughts strayed to Caden. It was a clean and sweet romance based on proving themselves with actions and sacrifice. I liked how Caden's presence was one of the things that gave Kirsi the courage to right the wrongs. Aside from their friendship and romance, I liked how the story wasn't predictable because just when you thought you knew what was going to happen, you were surprised. Of course the elements of the original tale were present yet some were used in a way you wouldn't expect. Another thing that I really liked is how the antagonists were well written because they certainly made me upset. There is pg-13 level violence with a slap and threats to characters but nothing very descriptive. Overall, this was a great novella that I know readers will enjoy.

A sweet novella with a creative twist on Cinderella! Kirsi Allerednic would rather avoid balls, corsets and fake smiles. She would rather chat with the charming servant, Caden than try to catch the eye of a prince who is far more interested in a girl with glass slippers. But her father insists that she take every opportunity to elevate her status, even when it comes from a conveniently sized shoe. The discovery that she fits the slipper of the prince’s proclaimed love prompts her father to take advantage of it, going so far as to threaten Caden if she dares to speak the truth. Now Kirsi must steal the life of a nameless girl, which shouldn’t be too hard, unless a mysterious godmother has something to say about it. Will Kirsi be able to escape and find her own happily ever after?
This was so fun! I have never read a Cinderella inspired story quite like this one. I enjoyed seeing a different perspective on the fairytales and Kirsi was an engaging narrator. It was an exciting story with times I wasn’t sure what would come next. Kirsi was trying her best to protect those she cared about. She was in a way, just trying to survive her father’s expectations. I felt for her, but admired her focus on others. She needed support, but found courage to do what she knew was right. It was fun to see all of the influences of the fairytale in the side characters as well.
This is a standalone fairytale-inspired romance novella. It has some danger and violence similar to a traditional fairytale, but nothing very graphic. There is only kissing.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

Ever since Kirsi’s mother passed away, her father has become more and more controlling. Her only friend, Caden, is a servant her father fired and now works at the palace. At a masquerade ball, Kirsi is stuffed into a tight dress, put on display, and expected to dance with the prince.
Except the prince only has eyes for one woman. A woman who most definitely isn’t Kirsi. The woman flees at midnight, leaving behind only a glass slipper. When Kirsi somehow fits the enchanted shoe, her father leaps at the chance of forcing her to marry the prince.
If she refuses, her father threatens Caden’s livelihood, and more. But will Kirsi be able to convince the prince she’s the girl he’s pining for? Or will true love find a way?
“Everything that fell apart in my life started with this horrid glass slipper.”
Abigail Manning has written the most amazing twist on the familiar Cinderella story. I love how she brought in familiar elements yet made them new. The ball, the slipper, the fairy godmother, all had new perspectives.
I just loved this story. Well written, with impossible choices, and two swoony heroes and the sweetest friends to lovers romance. Kirsi is a strong heroine who doesn’t look to others to save her, while still being willing to accept help.
Manning also writes incredible metaphors, and I am here for it.
5 Roses. Just delightful
A few sweet kisses. No swearing. A couple minor injuries and discussion of getting rid of a character.

(Thank you to the author for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review.)

I’m starting to think I’ll like any book by Abigail Manning at this rate 😂

To Shatter a Slipper was far from the typical Cinderella story. It was more like watching Cinderella from the sidelines as an inside character. Frankly, it made me think a lot of the third animated movie by Disney on Cinderella. It’s one of my favourites and this book did not disappoint either.

I really liked Kirsi and her spirit. She communicated with the other characters when she needed help instead of not saying anything like other characters tend to do, which I find VERY aggravating. She clearly lived Caden since the beginning and the dynamic of the story was good and kept me gripped from start to finish. A fun little book you’ll definitely like if you enjoy CLEAN fairytales!

My only criticism would be on the grammar (as a teacher it jumps to my eyes), there were some ruptures in the tense cohesion that bothered me and also the fact that Kirsi hates corsets. « Torture corsets » are a myth that not many know the truth about, but corsets being the basic underwear for women before the bra, every woman used to wear one and did not hate it at all. It was an essential. I mean even maids and farmer’s wives wore it to work. The difference was in how tight women would make the corset - which depended entirely on the fashion. Truth be told, it’s not widely known so it’s not a biggie, I’m just particular about these things.

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but meant to be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Kirsi’s point of view

– Kirsi’s father controls Kirsi by threatening those she cares about

Review:

I found this to be quite an interesting Cinderella retelling! Especially since there was a fairy godmother that magicked the slipper, making a little bit of a mystery as to how two people fit it. (This was so much bigger than I expected!) I enjoyed that Kirsi didn’t want to lie about being the girl that got away, but did so in order to protect those she cared about. And I loved that Kirsi was conscious of the fact that the prince was trying to make their ‘relationship’ work, but failed because they weren’t meant for each other. I adored that Caden knew Kirsi enough to be able to call her out on her lie and then also be willing to help her out of the whole situation.

Summary:

Kirsi didn’t want to be at the prince’s ball, but her father demanded that she attend. After all, it is expected of someone of their station to be at the biggest events in the kingdom and to wear the best finery they can afford. The only bright spot to Kirsi’s night is getting to see Caden, her best friend who works as a palace servant. But that’s where the good ends.

The next morning, palace officials tour the kingdom in search of the maiden who left the ball in a hurry the night before & fits the glass slipper left behind. Kirsi and her father know for a fact that Kirsi was not the lady to have left the ball but when the glass slipper happens to fit, she is thrust into a world of lies. Her father demands that Kirsi take the opportunity given to her with this miraculous mistake and wed the prince as was decreed to happen for the woman that fit the slipper. If Caden’s employment weren’t on the line should she disobey, Kirsi would be quick to tell the truth, but it’s not so simple for her. Kirsi would do anything to protect Caden, even go into a loveless marriage that starts on a lie. Even look upon the girl she knows was the true mysterious woman the prince fell for that night in every reflection she looks upon. Even though she knows that all of their true happily ever afters are within reach should she just take a chance…

This unique Cinderella retelling is full of twists and reveals! This has got to be one of the best retellings of Cinderella I have ever read. The story has Cinderella in it, but she's not the main character. The plot builds up, and every piece of the puzzle comes together. I really wasn't expecting the plot twist and was surprised to read it. The fairy godmother plays an important role in the story, and her character is fun to read. The romance between the main characters was sweet and charming. This standalone fairytale retelling is absolutely magical and amazing! I definitely recommend this book for anybody to read. 💙👑👠💙👑👠💙👑👠💙👑👠💙👑👠💙👑👠💙👑👠💙👑👠💙👑👠

To Shatter a Slipper by Abigail Manning
🥿 A stolen happily ever after
🥿 A mysterious godmother
🥿 The girl in the mirror
🥿 A charming servant
🥿 Sweet romance (no spice)
Genre: Cinderella fantasy
A sweet Cinderella retelling with a nice twist. If the shoe fits, how can Kirsi escape wearing it?
Quite enjoyed the twist here and everything played out nicely. I think I would have enjoyed it even more if it had been a bit longer with more moments between Kirsi and Caden but overall very cute. A quick read, would certainly recommend!
Favorite quote: "Caden’s hand slid closer toward mine, then closer, and closer, until his fingers laced into mine as snugly as a perfectly fitted slipper."

Hands down the BEST Cinderella retelling out there!

This shatters everything I knew about Cinderella, and I think after the book was done, I sat for a solid 15 minutes just holding onto the high of this story. Everything about it was perfect. Epic twist, I had NO IDEA how Abigail was going to solve the issue of the slipper fitting the wrong girl when it was supposed to be enchanted... but she did and it was better than anything else I've EVER seen done with Cinderella. SUPER cute love story that gives all of the warm fuzzy feelings, and beautiful imagery and language and everything.

Serious. I will be raving about this book until the end of time. Read it NOW

This is my first read of Abigail Manning. I have her other Cinderella Retelling sitting on my shelf on my endless TBR. Now that I have read Abigail Manning, I can say she is a talented writer.
This retelling of Cinderella covers what would happen if the slipper fit the wrong girl during the prince's search. Not only did someone else have the same shoe size as Cinderella character, but Kirsi doesn't want to marry the prince at all, but is heavily influenced by her father to agree to his scheme to see her as the new princess.

I thought it was very well done and in enjoyed reading it. The romance was sweet and I wish it could've been a bit more. Overall, 4.5 Stars.

Happy Reading!

This is the third Shattered Tales book that I've read, and I was once again impressed by the creativity. The authors of these novellas don't just dip their toes in the water of the "what ifs". They turn the fairytales on their heads, and this was no exception. A Cinderella retelling that's not even from the point of view of Cinderella? I loved it! The concept of the slipper fitting the wrong girl being told *by the wrong girl* made for such an intriguing story. Kirsi was an easy heroine to root for, because she wanted to do the right thing but also wanted to protect the people important to her. The romance was sweet, and the journey to getting the "real" Cinderella to the palace kept me hooked. Can't wait to read more in this series!

I received a copy of the book in advance for a review.

What a fun series!!

I love the idea of taking the known fairytales and changing them in such a fun and unique way. It was really interesting when I started reading because I thought I was reading Cinderella’s view due to my regular fairytale expectations. I was presently surprised that it was not the typical. I really enjoy how it is a reverse Cinderella of sorts. I can not recommended this book more.

Keep in mind that it is shorter than her normal books as this is a multi book set where creativity flows and the page limit is shorter. Great quick read for any age.
