Shaylee As a child, I believed in the fairytales my father told me. Until he was gone and with him, that belief. As a girl, I believed in the friendship and protection of Aden. He made me begin to believe again. As a woman, I believed in the possibility of love and passion between myself and Aden. Until he was gone and with him, my belief in magic and happy endings. Aden When she was a child, I was tasked with her protection. As a girl, I became her friend. As a woman, I could no longer see the child I knew and was forced to fight a growing attraction. Unable to lie and unable to tell the truth, I left. Now I’ve returned to give the knowledge I couldn’t before, that she is half Fae. The darkness is stalking her and I am desperate to teach her what she needs to know to protect herself. And determined to make her mine.*Part of a series, while it can be read as a standalone, the story continues to build through the following books. **Recommended for 18+ due to sexual content and language*** Approx 73,000 words, this is a full length novel.

I’m a lover of all things books, a hopeless romantic, and have always had a passion for writing. Between being a sappy romantic, my love of an HEA, my crazy imagination, and ok, let’s be real, my dirty mind, I fell easily into writing romance.
I’m a huge baseball fan and yet, a complete girly, girl. I’m an obsessive reader and have a slight (hahaha! Slight? Yeah, right) addiction to signed books.
I’m married to my very own book boyfriend, an alpha male with a sexy, sweet side. He is the best inspiration, my biggest supporter and the love of my life. He is also incredibly patient and understanding about the fact that he has to fight the voices in my head for my attention.
I hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoyed writing them!

3+ "New to me take on Faries" Stars!

I liked it. Very predictable bad guy and (can't believe I'm saying this) too much sex. Also Aden was a bit immature to be 76 years old. But Shaylee was a fiesty smart a**. I liked her more than him. I liked the take on faries, though that is where the too much sex comes in to play. Some of those scenes could have been cut to make more time for world building, and explaining being fated. Even more build up to the big showdown with the baddie would have been good.

Overall, not great, but not bad. I may read more of this series. Maybe. Happy reading.

I was unsure of the book in 60% of the way but wow it was really shocking how she made a character In the beginning of the book be so unimportant and then in the sort of end become one of the evil villain that and the funny ending change the 4/5 stars to a 4.5/5 stars I recommend this book if you like fae and new adult but to warn you its instant love.
I quickly jump in and read this book because I want a fae book (and also free on kindle) I'm not really reading this type of book so I thought I start reading more fae books when reading the blurb I expect a lot more than I was given but I did still enjoy it I'm debating whether to buy the next book because of what I heard about the next person the story is based on.
Shaylee is a really good character is kind of reminds me of Jennifer in the Grey Wolves Series By quinn loftis she has this side where she will speak her mind no matter how rude but also she won't let any guy be the boss of her.
I did like how Aden was rushing Shaylee to move in and other stuff I wanted him to try to impress her longer If I was Shaylee I would made him suffer a lot longer after how he broke her heart I did love Lila and (Eden I think his name is) but totally shock that they were together in secret I love how Shaylee had her twins and was like something went on there haha.
Also Ella forced three books to one it should have been three books in the story she had written but it was a good idea to have a try put them all together but it did reach the 5 stars mark because of it.
I did love the mum and how the dad told Shaylee the story of the fae world I wish we could have known more about him but I did wishe her mother joined them but I do understand she couldn't because she wanted to go with her husband.
I did love how she got pregnant in the end and he was like oops I literally died laughing with my friend how was like I'm definitely reading the next book.
I wish that there was more fighting scene's there was only one which was really confusing since she was meant to be protected by the Aden because she was in danger hopefully in other books it will be more fighting.
I was really surprised that Shaylee wasn't mad at Aden for the fact her father died because of the people looking for Aden to kill him but I surpose Ella did continue with that because we were near the end I like the fact they got married even though we couldn’t see but again we were near the end and she was rushing to finish it.

4.5 stars! Full review to come.

My initial thought when I started this was that I wasn't expecting it to be as dirty as it was! lol but I'm very happy to have been given a chance to read & review it!

Edit: Full Review post in conjunction with the Blog Tour on BookCrushin on 9/22/15.

"And in that moment, the wall I erected around my heart is obliterated and my love for him comes rushing in, surrounding me, filling my soul with light."

When I first started reading Protecting Shaylee, my initial thoughts were that I wasn’t expecting it to be as dirty and as sassy as it was! I almost snorted out loud so many times while reading this book! It is so much fun and there is so much hotness packed into these pages, I was in shock there was any room for the distinguishing plot. So if you are looking for a fun, unique, action-packed, scorching hot, paranormal romance then look no farther–this is the book (& series) for you!

Protecting Shaylee is the first book of the Fae Guard series; Shaylee is raised in the human world and is then thrown into the world of the Fae, and the characters we are following all guard and protect the half-fae. The guards help the newly transitioned fae to embrace their new life as they turn 21 and the fae magic turns on inside of them. I felt immersed in the world; it was fleshed out and very cool!

Can I just say that I felt like I knew Shaylee. It was like she was my best friend, except for that whole Fae thing, instead we are just a boring humans, who also quote lots of movies for silly life situations. Shaylee is also strong and really tough, but nothing is better than her sense of humor and fabulous tshirts! I literally looked some up on the internet because they were too funny not to be real.

Aden is an intense, typical alpha-male and quite egotistical. He hurt Shaylee, but he can’t resist her; they are meant for each other, now he just has to convince Shaylee to trust him again. There is some serious sexual tension between these two, while Shaylee puts down Aden’s advances because she is trying to figure out her new life’s role as well as trying to protect her heart. These two characters really feed off one another and they are inseparable–and as a reader– I in no way want them apart. They are so fierce together; oh, and did I mention, scorching?!

The other highlight besides the unique plot, and the sexy, it was the side characters. They took a very prominent role in the book and plot that it is clear they will be the subjects of the next books in this series and I say “bring it!” because I absolutely loved them and their clear chemistry and powerful friendships with one another. The only problem I had with this book is the fact that my face kept turning bright red in public. Searing! Be prepared, unlike myself, for the hotness that is contained between Shaylee & Aden.

Check out my 4-star review for Loving Ean (The Fae Guard Series #2). This series is very unique and I devoured it and I really think you will too!

“It is common among humans to see things not as they are, but as their imaginations perceive them to be. Experiences are romanticized, and folklore is created. However, some of these tall tales are not as far-fetched as you might think. For within a lie, there is always a kernel of truth. Among these legends are those of otherworldly creatures and people. However, the truth is often so wildly distorted that you may not recognize them for what they are…”

Ever since I read Erased, the debut novel by Elle Christensen and co-written by K. Webster, I have been waiting in anticipation for Elle’s next book. I was so excited when I heard that she was writing a paranormal/fantasy book. I am very picky when it comes to my paranormal/fantasy reads, so I’m always on the look out for something amazing. And boy did she knock it out of the park with this one.

I loved the idea and thought behind this story-line. The fae world is something that I really love to indulge in and I love seeing other peoples take on it. Protecting Shaylee follows the story of Shaylee and Aden. Shaylee lived her entire life in the dark of who she truly is. She’s always been told stories of fairies or the fae, but never in her wildest dreams, did she imagine that those stories were real….Aden has always been a part of Shaylee’s life. He started off as her protector, and friend. As time passed on and Shaylee became a woman, new feelings started to develop. But things didn’t go as planned, when they finally act on their attraction, Shaylee is over the moon, only to discover that Aden has left…Now, 2 years later, Shaylee has come of age. It’s time for the truth to come out. Will Aden and Shaylee be able to get past their past regrets? Will Aden be able to protect Shaylee and teach her how to defend herself against the darkness that waits? Will Aden and Shaylee finally get their chance???

I have to say, I was sucked into this story from the very first page. It was so refreshing. Just the read I was looking for. I loved the story-line and the paranormal/fantasy elements within the modern setting. I knew from the moment that I met Shaylee and Aden that they were going to amazing together. And boy was I right. I loved watching the two of them together. Their banter was very entertaining. Shaylee challenged Aden and made him work hard for what he wanted. And Aden was a total alpha male! Once he realized that Shaylee was fated to him and that she wanted him just as much, he became as she called him, a total “caveman”. It was so entertaining to read! And their chemistry….Yowza! It was off the charts.

Protecting Shaylee is a fast paced, enjoyable read. It’s funny, has angst, great twists, romance and of course STEAM!! I really enjoyed the world that Elle Christensen has created. I think this series is off to a really great start and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book!

I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I haven’t read many NA fantasy books, because I don’t generally enjoy them too much, but this one was pretty good and I was really intrigued by the fae world.

“We’ll go to Rien. You’ll be training. I’ll teach you how to protect yourself and others by using magic properly, as well as physical training.” That stops me short and my lips turn up in a wicked smile. “Are you telling me that eventually, I’ll be able to kick your ass?” Aden rolls his eyes, “You can certainly try, baby.”

Shaylee’s always believed in the fairy tales her dad used to tell her, until he was killed. She never thought about those stories again until Aden shows up again. He’s been part of her life since she can remember, never seeming to age, as a protector and hero at first, then as a friend, and as her biggest crush when she was old enough to develop those feelings. When she was nineteen they crossed the line, and then he’s disappeared for two years. Now he’s back and telling Shaylee that she’s of age now, she’s half fae, and she needs to go with him to train against the darkness that’s coming for her.

Shaylee glances around. “Is there a portal here or something? Do I need to grab a boot?” Her tone is laced with sarcasm and I echo it in my response. “Yeah, Shaylee. I’m taking you to Hogwarts. Did you bring your broom?”

I really, really loved Shaylee. She’s fierce and feisty, she doesn’t let anything bring her down. I also loved how she reacted to her attraction to Aden. Even if he broke her heart, she can see the truth beyond his actions, so she doesn’t let her insecurities take her away form what could make her happy. The two of them were pretty steamy together, they can’t keep their hands from each other; but they were also really cute, and their banter was awesome. Aden is kind of an old fashioned alpha male. He’s nice and funny, even if bossy. I didn’t like some of the things he did or thought (one thing in particular but that’s a big spoiler), but Shaylee didn’t mind so I guess it’s ok.

The freedom to tell Shaylee that I love her anytime I want puts a bounce in my step. You don’t think I know that this makes me sound like a girl? I do, so shut the fuck up.

I really loved all of Aden’s friends so I’m looking forward to reading the next books. The storyline, although not particularly complicated, was enjoyable and fast paced. If you're up for some steamy fae action this one’s for you.

This is my FIRST ADULT paranormal book, aw, so these too can be hot and sizzling. Besides the fact that I was entranced by the background of the story, the story of their world, of the fae guards and the villains that wants them gone.

Their world is not like that of Harry Potter, where walls can move and staircases changes every now and then, it’s fairly like the normal world, with people who doesn’t grow old. Your grandmother can look like 25 years old. Don’t you just love this world?

I love that part of their must-dos is the fact that they couldn’t tell a lie, or else darkness will pull them in. But it doesn’t mean they can’t omit some truth (isn’t this one lying by omission?).

As a girl, Aden was Shaylee’s protector. But when Shaylee was growing up, and lines had been crossed, Aden decided to give her up. When the right time came along, and she needed to know the truth, he came back. And this time, he was going to claim her, and there was no going back.

I totally forgot what it’s like to read paranormal books. It has been a while since I got my hands on something like this. Paranormal books, especially those that are well-written and well-thought of, can sucked you into another dimension, make you experience magic and allow you to think that for a while, people who have superpowers exist among us. Wishing you has one as well.

Protecting Shaylee came to me accidentally because I was too busy to read the whole thing, I thought it wasn’t paranormal, but there you go, I clicked it, and since my curiosity was already piqued by the blurb, I decided to give it a try, and lo and behold, I liked it.

Sooo much hope

And then it fell short...

The characters are awesome - let me say that.

But seriously - there really isn't much of a plot. I thought she was gonna be a badass fighter - Well, that's not the story Line. But, they had hot sex. And that was about it.

I went in thinking this would be much more angsty then it was. Aden was a family friend that morphed from a big brother role to super crush. When Shaylee was 19 the two made out during a party in a pantry, and then he ghosted her. The book opens with Aden arriving 2 yrs later, and unfortunately it didn’t play out with any real feels.

She doesn’t really put up a fight, and he just pushes his way in. Plus, they end up being mates, so it’s pretty much a done deal. I’m just not feeling it, and have so many freebies from the past several years that I’m calling it for now anyway.

I went into Protecting Shaylee with high hopes, and while I liked it, in the end I was really wishing for more. I'm a huge fan of paranormal romance and since fae-based books are so few and far between I usually jump on them any chance I get... That being said, I felt like even though they're in the fairy world, everything was just too normal for me to really connect with it on a paranormal level. I guess I'm like Shaylee and expect the fae world to feel more like a fairytale.

Shaylee grew up listening to her father tell her fairytales but when her father died, her belief in fairytales died with him. It isn't until her 21st birthday when Aden shows back up in her life and tells her that she's half fae that she realizes that her dad told her all of those fairytales for a reason.

Aden walked away from Shaylee years ago and hadn't planned to ever see her again... Until he finds out she's his fated mate and is sent back to protect her from the darkness that is stalking her. As soon as he returns, he's quick to whisk her away to Rien where he can help her come into her powers.

I loved that Shaylee wasn't one of those TSTL heroines that fights the hero even though she knows she's in danger... As soon as Aden says they need to go, she follows. I also really enjoyed the fact that she gave in to her fae half rather quickly and was excited to learn how to control her powers.

Aden... I'm not really sure how I felt about him. Did I love his alpha tendencies? Absolutely! His protectiveness and possessiveness towards Shaylee was definitely swoonworthy... But I think my issue with him stems from the fact that he disappeared on her years ago, breaking her heart, and had no plans to go back for her until he found out she was his fated mate. That made all of his actions a little less believable for me, I suppose.

The suspense involving the darkness that was following Shaylee definitely made for an interesting read and that's what really made it enjoyable for me. I really would have liked more background info on the fae but since this is the first book in the series I'm guessing we'll get more details in other books.

I was one of the lucky ones that was able to get an advanced readers copy of this book. I'm just going to start off by saying, paranormal isn't always my thing. I mean, I love it, but over the years I've found it hard to enjoy them like I used to. I couldn't get past the extreme situations, or how over the top the paranormal elements were. I happen to favor a little more of an understated kind of magic when reading that genre. So I went in with my mind open, but I was not disappointed. Elle Christensen was able to create this world that completely shocked me. It blended the elements of real vs fiction in a way that was believable, which made it so I lost myself in the story. I was picturing myself as Shaylee as she went through all of the ups and downs of her life, and I could actually see it in my mind as if it were a movie. To me, that's one of the most important things of a book, and she nailed it.
There's also this thing I love about it and that's the relationship between Shaylee and Aden. First of all the sexual tension in this book is palpable, and good lord is it enough to stick in your brain forever. But beyond the completely amazing sexual chemistry, and the fun they have with it, there's this connection between them that makes your heart beat a little faster every time they interact. I couldn't get over just how much I loved them as a couple, and as nindiciual characters.
I'm not about spoilers, and I won't go into the description, you can read that in the synopsis, but I will say that this book is definitely worth your time. It gives you a glimpse into a creative world and takes you away from reality for just a little while. Honestly, even if paranormal isn't your thing, I still would recommend it, it's just that good. So do yourself a favor, and when the time comes, one click this book. Let yourself be enveloped by the awesomeness of it all, because you'll be happy that you did.

Wow! I'm so totally in love with this book right now. It's not often that I find a newer author with so much promise, but when I do, I want to shout it to the whole world- but I don't have a mountain, I have a blog and a computer, so here we are. Shaylee is not a princess that needs saving, and Aden is not a knight in shining armour. They are both part of the fae world, but they aren't invincible, and they certainly aren't immune to the strange emotions humans are plagued by. I felt like we really got to know them in the short amount of time we are together, and they may not be forthcoming with everyone but after a certain point they didn't hide their thoughts from one another, which I enjoyed. Shaylee is sarcastic and her funny tshirts had me in stitches! I love that although Aden is certainly somewhat narcissistic, it's only on the surface, and the way he...well that's for you to read and find out! Also, not to be too spoilery, but the sex scenes in this one will rip your panties to shreds. LOTS of dirty talk, so be prepared. Mreow. Anywhoo, if you are looking for a paranormal romance like none you've read before, pick up Protecting Shaylee today! 5 mother truckin stars!

I gave up almost halfway through. I guess I should have seen it coming, but I'll always give fantasy a chance. If you're into the domineering, alpha personality from your men in books, you'll like this, but it was just too much for me. I gave up right after a part where Aden forces Shaylee to change her clothes because other men were looking at her. Nooooo thanks. The characters weren't all horrible, but the alpha to the extreme mess and Shaylee's willingness to take it just killed any care I had developed for the characters. And like I said, Kindle said I got 43% through, and there wasn't much plot at all up to that point. It's just these characters trying not to have sex all the time. The Fae realm has barely even been touched upon, and it's just too little, too late for me.

Protecting Shaylee had all of the elements I loved in a book. Suspense/action, super steamy sex, second chance love, and faeries! Elle Christensen wrote an amazing book that hooked me right from the beginning. I truly look forward to reading about the other faeries in the gang and see how their love stories evolve. This book was very refreshing and different than typical takes on fae. I felt like it had a clever, modern feel to it that we just haven't seen up until now. Five Fae Stars all the way!

So it's safe as far as no cheating, no ow/om drama or separations.

It started out interesting with the characters being Fae and what I thought would be some world building but it really could have been any genre because the backstory wasn't explored much. Maybe in future books it will get a little more detailed.

Mainly I didn't like the h, she started out ok but quickly became snarky and shrewish and sophomoric. In fact a lot of the characters were immature. I think the author was trying for funny but it felt like junior high school behavior. The H is supposed to be 75 years old but still acted like a high schooler at time. While he was possessive, he wasn't much alpha.

In fact a lot of the characters were immature, there was juvenile teasing and even sticking tongues out at each other. There was heat and chemistry between the MCs when they weren't annoying me.

In conclusion, for me I just didn't like the characters much. The ending just sort of fell flat. I thought the next couple sound interesting but the synopsis makes it seem like he's just being a martyr. You know "I want her but I'm not good enough for her so I have to push her away" blah, blah, blah trope. So, it's probably me because other people liked it but for me a pass for now on succeeding books.

Behind every folklore, legend, and fairy tale there lies a kernal of truth; it is the humans who embellish it and stretch it into the story that it becomes. This is something that Shaylee discovers first hand. As a little girl her father would tell her what she saw as fantastical stories about faerys, little did she know them the truth that was being them. She always knew she was a little different than others but never truly understood why, that is until her twenty-first birthday.

On her birthday her mother threw her a little party, even though Shaylee told her she didn't want one. Little did she realize it was more than a birthday party, it was also a farewell dinner. This would be the last time she would be with her family in the same way she was since she was born. She had a major surprise awaiting her.

Since she was a child she had a special friend in her life, okay so he was more a friend of her father's but he always made her feel special. Shaylee was his little "Buttercup". That is until her nineteenth birthday when they bumped into one another in the pantry, and things got a little heated. Aden couldn't handle taking Shaylee's life away from her, him being so many years her senior and all, and thought it would be best if he simply stepped out of her life. But he was so wrong.

Shaylee's mother had invited a few of her closest friends, her aunt, and Aden to the birthday/ farewell dinner. And this was the night Shaylee found out what she truly was, a leath leanbh, half human and half faery. Her father was Fae and her mother human. Aden was her guard and is now her trainer and her fated mate- not in the term one usually thinks, simply Fate foresaw them together. The night of her party is the last night she will be living in New York, Aden is taking her to the land of Rein. This will become her new home, where she will train and learn what our really means to be Fae.

Shaylee is strong and fast learning of the ways of Fae though she doesn't completely understand everything. She is met with danger and some unexplainable circumstances. While in Rein her and Aden soon realize they can't keep their hands off one another which makes for some very steamy romance.

If you don't have a book boyfriend yet, you will by the end of this AMAZING book!!! As this to you must read list ;-)

Protecting Shaylee was a riveting read by Elle Christensen, and I must say, I am really looking forward to this entire series! I will do my best to leave a spoiler free review - as always - but it was so good, I just want to share everything with you!! Once I picked up this book, I honestly could not set it down.

Shaylee has been told fairy tales by her father her entire life. When a devastating life event makes her banish the fairy tales, there is no telling what her future holds for her except to continue living her life, and making it the best it can be without the fairy tales in her life. When her twenty-first birthday approaches, she feels a change in the air around her - a new sort of energy, something has changed in the fates, and she still has no idea what it is.

Aden has been reassigned to Shaylee's future. When he left on her nineteenth birthday, he figured he could talk himself out of the feelings he had for her. The secrets he holds for her are so much more than her just being a Fae. The darkness has found her, and while Aden has his own darkness within him for Shaylee, he has to conceal it for as long as possible so as to not scare her off.

The passion, chemistry, and the SEX between Shaylee, and Aden was mind blowing on the reader end of things. Definitely one of the top 10 for me for the 2015 year thus far. A great read, a phenomenal story line that really has a lot to offer to the reader, and an unforgettable connection between two characters. There isn't much else a reader - like myself - can ask for when it comes to a paranormal romance novel.

Elle Christensen brought to life a world that is just outstanding to the reading world. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series, and cannot wait to see what happens next!

ADEN. IS. FUCKING. HOT.
"
I'm always afraid of trying new genres hence why I tend to stick with in and around the same kind of books. Ok so if I'm being honest here I'm a smut whore - as if that's a shock! So my thing with genres I'm not familiar with is 'How can this possibly be hot or sexy?' *SCOFFS* Enters Aden the Alpha. He is allll Alpha and so sexy. Seriously. I think I'm in love.

" I'm not going to play games with you, Shaylee you're mine." His head lowers until his lips are at my ear. "And you know it."

And Shaylee is the perfect match for this alpha male. That woman can her own that's for sure! She is guarded at times when it comes to Aden and with good reason too but don't worry she can more than handle Aden and gives as much as she gets. I promise you will love her and Aden's dynamic relationship and by far she will be one of your favourite heroines.

"But, that doesn't mean you get to have me." I step back and bring my hand to, condescendingly, pat his cheek. The smile has been effectively wiped from his face.

Aden and Shaylee have a past but are brought back together on Shaylee's 21st birthday. They have their own personal obstacles with each other to get over along with other problems caused by forces completely out of their control. I fell hard for Aden the cocky S-O-B. I also fell hard for Elle! Her personality and humor shines through her writing in this book. This was written in a way you connect with the character's and the character's connect with you in a way. Funny is hard to do - no matter what it is you do, funny is just one of them things that is hard to pull off and Elle pulled it off 100%. I laughed so hard at the banter with these characters. Without a doubt Elle is going to keep shining and I am excited for Ean's story!

5 Stars does this book no justice at all!!! I give this one 10 stars!! This is an exceptionally well written story full of suspense, romance and fantasy!! Elle Christensen has a gift for writing that will make you feel a part if this story from the first page. You will not want to put it down until you are finished and then you will long for more of her exceptional writing.
Shaylee is a young lady that grew up listening to her father's stories about fairies that she thought was just that, stories. When Shaylee turns 21 she quickly learns that her father's stories were more than just stories. Shaylee had never thought anything about the stories being real life events and people until Aden comes to take her away for training.
Aden has been a long time friend of Shaylee's family for as long as she can remember. Aden has always been protective of Shaylee but that was because he was supposed to look out for her. Shaylee never imagined that Aden had stronger feelings for her. When Aden showed up on her birthday, everything comes to light and Shaylee begins on a new adventure in her life.
This story is packed full of action and adventure for the characters that will keep you so intrigued throughout the whole story. I love the connection between Shaylee and Aden and how Aden becomes more and more protective of Shaylee the more time they spend together.
I can not wait for the other stories in this series to see how thing all unfold. Elle keeps us guessing all along the way!! Thanks Elle for writing stories that we love to read and ones that can allow us to live in a fairy world for a short while!!

3.5 stars 3 for storyline/plot and 4 for character relationship/steaminess! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Shaylee is half fae/half human...but she doesn't know it. She has grown up in the the human world and has been watched over by Aden. After a rather intense encounter with Aden, he leaves, not to be seen again until her 21st birthday when he returns for her, this time to take her with him into the fairy realm. Shaylee has been discovered by the dark fae and isn't safe in the human world until she knows how to use her magic to protect herself.

Shaylee was hurt be Aden when he left...can she learn to trust him again with her heart? Aden's disappearance from Shaylee's life is complicated but he's returned and is determined to make Shaylee his. Can he regain her trust and be honest with her about their future?

I have read quite a few paranormal novels about the fae and this one takes a slightly different approach than others. I was intrigued by the premise but wanted more about the story/background of the fae than what I got. I had a lot of questions that I didn't get answered. This is book 1 in a 4 book series and I think the questions I have WILL get answered as the story continues but I just would have liked more now...impatient, lol. The heat and chemistry between Shaylee and Aden is off the charts. They compliment each other nicely. I liked the inner dialogue each character has going, added some snark, spice, and humor to the story. I am definitely intrigued by secondary characters Laila and Ean and I understand the next book will delve into these two a bit more so I look forward to seeing where this series goes!

Ella creates a new world, one in which the Fae exist, but not in the way of fairytales and folklore. The storyline is solid and the characters are brilliant. She definitely leaves you wanting more!

Aden is the hot older guy we all had a crush on when younger. He's strong, honest, protective, and possessive.

Shaylee is resilient and level headed though everything she faces. You have to respect that.

But I have to say I loved the secondary characters the most and can't wait for more of them! Fate and Calista are my favorites! These women are fun and funny.
And Brannon and Ean make me want their stories!

Shaylee is raised being told fairytales. Her father makes them seem so real, but she soon learns life isn't a fairytale. For as long as she can remember Aden has been there watching over her. She's always had a crush on him. But once she finally starts to get to him, he disappears, breaking her heart. Then she finds out the stories are true, but even in fairytales there is Evil. And now it seems that Evil is after her! Can she let Aden close enough to protect her after what happened?

Aden's always kept an eye on Shaylee, making sure she was safe. But after a close call, he pulls away. Then he finds out she's in danger and it's finally time to tell her what she really is. He understands her anger and agrees he handled the situation wrong. This doesn't mean he loves her any less. Can he persuade her to give him another chance?

This story is paranormal romance at it’s best. Elle’s mixture of the “human” and “Fae” worlds is just so damn realistic I had myself convinced that a nightlight in my house was casting fairy wings. DON’T JUDGE. I adored Aden. I love how present he was throughout Shaylee’s life, even when she didn’t know why. There is just something so endearing about his protective nature when it comes to Shaylee. Shaylee is a firecracker. The girl is fierce. I love her spunk, wit, and humor. I felt very connected to her. She seemed like someone I would want to know and hang out with.

It was great to see the story develop and bring the magical aspects of the Fae world . There is an ominous undertone and sense of foreboding that had me guessing what was going on until the very end (And still I know there is more that will follow in the next book). There is happiness, love, passion, STEAMY SEX, a little sadness, and a hint of danger lurking around in the shadows. The verbal sparring between Aden and Shaylee is hilarious at times and also dripping with lust. They both give as good as they get.

The entire cast of characters from this book fascinated me. Laila, Ean, Hayleigh, even Brannon and his brother Kendrix had me wanting more from these characters. I loved, loved the epilogue!! I am so excited to see what else Elle has in store with this Fae Guard Series. If you read paranormal romance be sure to scoop this one up. You will not be disappointed.

Protecting Shaylee had me hooked right away. When Shaylee was young, her father used to tell her stories about faries. Her dads friend, young Aden was a familiar face around the house. After Shaylee's dad died Aden came around more often. When Shaylee was 19, her and Aden had "a moment", and he took off never to contact her again. He turns up on Shaylee's 21st birthday to tell her some crazy news. I don't want to give anything away, so I'll leave you with that. I could not put this book down! I can't wait to read more from this series.

Elle Christensen’s book “Protecting Shaylee” was amazing. It has a mixture of contemporary and historical that really spoke to me. I love when romance authors use a little bit of fantasy and history to enhance their work. I thought Shaylee and Aen were lovable characters and was very captivated by them. I have always been a believer in love and fairy tales, even at almost 33 years old. Aen and Shaylee are a great couple and I think readers should get to know them. Perfect Rating

I am not normally a paranormal fan, but this book made me a believer! All of these characters were awesome! I loved the storyline. Shaylee’s father was preparing her without her knowing it. I love how the author made the Fae seem like normal people. They act just like humans. Their “land” is not back in the dark ages. They have cars and all the other good stuff there too. For Shaylee, that helps. It seems more like home and I think that helps her with her “conversion”. Shaylee takes to being a Fae like a fish to water. Aden is great. He can be serious, but underneath he is just a fun-loving goofball. He kept me in tears laughing. And good lord can he talk dirty! The chemistry between them is scorching and you will need a fire extinguisher handy. They have a few ups and downs, but overall their relationship is effortless. I loved Fate. She is a potty mouthed woman who tells it like it is. She also kept me laughing. All of the supporting characters were great and I hope each one gets their story and HEA. There were a few twists I didn’t see coming and pulled me into the story that much further. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this story!!!!

Excuse me while I pick up my jaw from the floor, wipe the drool of my face and find my underwear. Holy hotness! I honestly had to sit and think on this review before I was able to comprehend a coherent thought. All I could think about were the plentiful dominating sex scenes that had me running for a cold shower. On repeat. I'm pretty sure my water bill is going to be huge. I'll try to write this before my mind takes a nose dive back into the glorious gutter of this book.

The plot was one of a kind. I have read many books of the Fae genre and every one had very similar traits. This one had a uniqueness of it's own that was so refreshing! The characters were beautifully created and the details came alive. I found myself physically feeling the heartache, the love and their sexual need - mind meet gutter. I loved every page.

In fact, I loved every page so much that my only real qualm is how short the book is. We are talking novella status. It took me no longer than a couple hours to read. I quickly dove into the next book to quench my need for more Fae sexiness. Boy, I was not disappointed. ~ Kelly, 4 stars

Wow! This was the first paranormal book I have read. What an introduction to this genre. I absolutely loved this story. I had no idea what to expect as far as fairies, magic and the land of fairies. I have to say it really impressed me. I was pleasantly surprised to find dirty talking fairies, who live lives similar to humans (without unicorns who poop rainbows).
The main characters were so well developed, I fell in love with them from the beginning. Shaylee is a strong independent lady! I love the tee shirts she wears that let you know just how sassy she is. Aden is the ultimate in protective alpha males with a sweet spot for Shaylee. He takes his role as protector seriously. And let's face it, who doesn't want a protective man who worships you and helps you become a stronger woman!!! The supporting characters were also very well developed, and I cannot wait to read their stories as well.
I absolutely loved this story and would have given more stars, but it only allowed me to give 5!!!
