Christmas Bubble

Rate this book
A Christmas snowstorm. Two opposites that most definitely attract. Only one bed.

When the man of your absolute dreams slams their mouth into yours, there is only one course of action. Yours truly–that’s me–has broken it down into four easy steps for your convenience.
You're welcome.

Step make sure he really is attached to you. Lips to lips. You're a clam. Do not let go.
Step climb him like a tree.
Step thank your past self for all the squats that gave you those thunder thighs.
Step enjoy every second of that kiss before said (maybe-not-so-straight) man realizes what he's doing and has a freakout.

Christmas Bubble is a low angst, standalone, Christmas novel featuring a petite but larger-than-life cheerleader, an older demisexual football coach and a winter cabin by the lake with only one bed.
Will this be the season when all their wishes will come true?

Although I read this pretty early in the holiday season, I’m fairly sure Christmas Bubble will remain my favourite MM holiday romance of 2022!

This May-December romance completely stole my heart, telling the story of Coach, a stoic 46-year-old, newly divorced and presumedly-straight football coach, and Bubble, a twenty-six-year-old, larger-than-life cheerleading coach and baker, who decides to willingly serves his huge heart (and maybe even his body, if the situation calls for it) up on a platter, hoping Coach will take his very obvious and good-natured hints.

Starting off as new colleagues and then venturing into some fun holiday antics that see these two thrown into even closer proximity, Coach and Bubble were fantastic, lovable characters, both likeable and relatable but also complex enough to give their story and their romance the oomph it needed to make them shine as a book couple.

This story covered so many of my favourite tropes. Beyond the whole opposites attract arc, this also had plenty of sexual discovery (on Coach’s side) and the always fun snowed-in-together-for-Christmas trope I love so much—and, as a bonus, WHOOPS, there was only one bed… and I LOVED IT!

Throw in plenty of lovely side characters, heaps of holiday charm and festive joy, and a damn good serving of sex and romance, and you’ve got yourself EXACTLY the kind of Christmas-themed romance I actively seek out during the holiday season.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! <3

Christmas Bubble by Ana Ashley was a cute, low, angst Christmas story. We have Bubble (Curtis), a high school Cheerleader coach and Riley, who is also a high school football coach. They both made a move to Windsor, CT, after a failed long-term relationship. Bailey after his 23-year marriage ended and Bubbles after a bad break.

This is a cute story of sexual awakening/discovery for Riley, who starts to fall for Bubbles. Bubbles has been trying to shoot his shot at the coach by bringing him baked goods since meeting him. They get a chance to get closer after having to spend Christmas together at a cabin.

Riley has some back and forth as he tries to figure out his attraction to Bubbles and starts questioning himself. He worries about the age gap, as it is 20 years. Bubbles is also scared to have his heart broken as he falls deeper for Riley. It was very insta-love and had its moments. It had a lot of tropes I love - insta love, sexual discovery, age gap - but it also felt a little flat for me. Overall it was a cute Christmas story, and I did enjoyed it.

Lots of stereotypes here. I don’t know why so many gay/bi/demi-awakening books have to have the gay guy not only feminine but in stereotypical female societal roles (ie: being a cheerleader and cooking to win away to a man’s heart) in order to make it easier for the awakening guy to… awaken.

I wanted to say this was cute but it was full of really cheesy one liners and cringey language. I felt nothing for the side characters.

Also, the word/name Bubble/Bubbly/Bubblelicious/etc was written 256 times in a 272 page book. I’d be happy to never hear or read that word again.

Eh.

i’m the biggest mood reader and i love it when i don’t know what mood i’m in and i just pick up a book saying “oh what the hell” and it’s just perfect for that moment.
i enjoyed this very much BUT i have to say that i’ll reread this only when i feel like i’m in the mood for it.
it’s super cute and fluffy, a bit dramatic and a little corny. surprisingly, this mixture works.
honestly the opposites-attract and age gap didn’t hurt at all. i actually need more books with football coach/cheerleader coach or just player/cheerleader.
a little negative note: the way the MCs talked to themselves for the first half of the book was a bit annoying.

This was a sweet romantic grumpy/sunshine romance that I totally found myself enjoying.
If you're looking for an angst driven romance, this isn't your bag. Yes, it has a little angst but mostly its fun and flirty read between two men who I really loved.
It's a heart lifting Christmas romance that really left a smile on my face. After all, that's what Christmas romances are supposed to do, right?
I loved it.

I'm so annoyed.

This was a solid 4 star fluff-read until 80% when it hit drama-town and was trying to do too much at once. There was no need for both characters to have silly drama! One drama is already too much drama! And then a horrifying public apology, flashmob-style with 100 people.

I liked the characters and how they were true to themselves. I thought they were sweet together and this story had some nice emotional moments in spite of the very insta sexuality awakening, but the last 20% kind of ruined it for me. Also agree with other reviews: I would like to never read the world "bubble" ever again.

I did still mostly enjoy this so I'm rating it 3 stars and will consider other books by this author but I'd only rec this if you're keen on dramatics.

This was delightful to read. Bubble is just the most precious young man, and Coach really needed his bubbleliciousness to get out of his funk.

But there's also drama, and Bubble is not as happy and carefree as one might think from a single glance.

A wonderful read. I'll have to check out more from this author.

2★'s = it was ok.

I almost quit this one, and probably should have, instead I just ended up skimming.

This is so not my sort of humor, at all, and it just felt so awkward and unreal.

And then it just went crazy. I couldn't even suspend belief, even for a Christmas story.

I didn't like it and it was barely ok.

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

“[…]I can’t give up until he specifically tells me to leave him alone. You know, like how vampires have to be invited in? I have to be invited out.”

A good friend sent me a screenshot from this book, and I pretty much immediately knew I was going to read it. This book was utterly charming from start to finish, and probably my favorite christmas-y read this year. Bubble might be one of the most endearing and adorable MCs I’ve ever read, honestly. He is aptly named for his personality *and* his butt. Bubbly all around.

He scratches his head, which causes his pecks to flex, killing my two remaining brain cells.

The tropes alone makes it nearly an automatic read, to be fair. The young male cheerleading coach pursues the much older football coach by giving him cute gifts and baking him more yummy treats than anyone could ever eat. Older coach has a mini-freakout because he’s suddenly attracted to a tiny, baking, dick-having menace for the first time in his life. Funny and very hot stuff happens when they’re snowed in together in a tiny cabin. I have to agree with my friend. I didn’t want this book to end, because it was just that sweet and entertaining. Exactly what it says it is, and exactly what I wanted and needed to read at the time.

“I decided we should make out,” I say.
“Oh really?”
“Yes, really.”
“Why’s that?”
“Because we just had a fight, so now we have to make out. It’s the rules.”

There was a couple of things mentioned throughout that I wish were expanded on, but it honestly didn’t affect my enjoyment much. Very highly recommend!

Christmas Bubble was definitely a cute holiday read, and a good start to my Christmas in July reads, but the word ‘bubble’ is now dead to me. In case you were wondering, it’s mentioned 200+ times throughout the book 😅

What a sweet story!

Ana Ashley's Christmas Bubble has everything I want and need in a holiday romance. A real feel good, opposites attract, "first time gay", age gap love story. Plus there's forced proximity with snow, a hunky guy in his forties chopping wood, cute neighbor kids, and tempting descriptions of baked goods.

The cameo by the cute kids are the children of Harrison and Fletcher from Antagonist. (This story stands alone, no problem, but I'm definitely reading that one next!).

These are wonderful characters, and it was my pleasure to read their tale.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

I expected to love this snowed in mm holiday romance. A slightly grumpy divorced football coach and a sunshine, flirty cheerleading coach. Add in an age gap, steam, and the only one bed trope and it should have been a winner. I loved so many aspects of this story, however very quickly the cheesy dialogue turned eye rolling and one-liners that would have been cute were cringe. I'm also all for when a character discovers /explores their sexuality but to have zero hesitation in the bedroom and just be on board with everything, made this feel insta lovey. In the end, if you're looking for a light but steamy holiday romance with low drama than give Christmas Bubble a go.

If you're just looking for a nice swoon-worthy story for that Christmas feeling, read this one. 🙂It's a light sweet thing.
I love how Bubble is slowly mellowing his coach and convincing him that he is his person.

“You’re barking up the wrong tree.”
His gaze runs again from my eyes to the tips of my shoes. My winter coat suddenly feels too hot as Bubble’s eyes travel to mine again. I feel exposed in ways I can’t explain or understand.
“Am I?” he asks in a sultry voice, and I swear my dick reacts.
What the fuck?

Reading it was fun and heartwarming with a little bit of drama towards the end, overall very christmassy lovely and very beautifully written.
And sexy 😍

With each pass of his tongue over my lips, I swear I lose a brain cell. Every time he sucks my lips between his, I see the pearly gates of heaven. When his tongue seeks entry into my mouth—spoiler alert, I let it in—I’m sure somewhere there’s a headstone with my name on it.
Here lies Bubble. He lived a good life. Died young, but that kiss was so worth it.

I can't believe I'm giving Ana Ashley book one star. I got through the whole book and it had its moments, but the story was extremely rushed. Bubble is supposed to be a fun and quirky character, but imagine a man doing all Bubble did to a woman - he'd be seen as extremely creepy - or a woman doing all this to a man - she'd been seen as "crazy". But Bubble baking a supposedly straight man dozens of cakes, rearranging the desks (at a school, in a professional setting), hanging an inspirational poster where one of the bullet points for happy life or whatever was "Blow Bubble" and a high school KID literally read it out loud - what the fuck?

And the stupid fucking epilogue when it's the next Christmas and THEY'RE FUCKING EXPECTING AND ANNOUNCING A BABY AS A GAY COUPLE AFTER LESS THAN A YEAR OF DATING? WITH WHAT MONEY AND POWER DID THEY MAKE THAT HAPPEN?

4.5⭐️ - This was ooey gooey Christmas goodness! This had all the things anyone could want in a holiday romance. You get baking, decorating, snow, cabin, cozy fireplace - and some seriously steamy sexy times!!

I love me a good age gap and this did not disappoint! I thought it was so real how reticent Riley/coach was about the big gap with Bubble. They were so perfectly matched in so many other ways that it made their interactions delightful - even when Riley was either irritated or panicking.

Bubble was so wonderful! He was quirky and hyper and so full of life. He was truly unapologetically himself. He really seemed to live life with an open heart. He was super enamored with Riley, much to Riley’s dismay. However, he just did really nice things for Riley. Bubble wanted to make him happy!

The on bed trope can be super fun and this wasn’t an exception. This book was on fire!! The slow burn was worth the wait!!

While this wasn’t without drama, it didn’t have angst or sadness. It had very touching and emotional moments that painted such a beautiful picture!

So, this book is now going on my list of top favorite holiday books! I absolutely loved every single thing about it! Age gap between older high school coach, Riley, and younger cheerleader coach, Bubble (I won't spoil the surprise of him admitting his real name). Two men who have been hurt by love before but somehow can't deny the magical pull between them! Bubble is my new spirit animal! Lol He is literally the embodiment of sunshine and joy and optimistic energy, and, Gah ... I just love him to pieces! Coach Riley is adorable in his futile attempts at ignoring his attraction to the vivacious young man who is determined to woo him with glittery sass and cake! Lots of cake! I love how Riley doesn't beat himself up over his first ever male attraction - I've read that to death and I appreciated how he had his little moments of freaking out, but used them to really examine his feelings. Once he took that step he was all-in and I was internally cheering for the two men! There are lots of simple sweet moments and lots of steamy hot ones and they all combined into one of the best holiday stories I've read in a long time! I highly recommend this one and I know that I'll be re-reading it again and again! It's just perfect!

Bubble, bubble, here comes trouble :D

This is such a cute and funny Christmas story! Bubble is quirky and adorable, while Coach can be a bit of a Grinch sometimes. It is a total opposites attract, sunshine/grumpy dynamic, that works for them. And me too. I loved the quirkiness and humor in this book, it was just so uplifting! Adorable read!

Book given in exchange for review

Loved this story, great Christmas read.

Bubble is a cheerleading coach in the local school, he’s small, he fun, he’s very pink! He’s full of life and love and very energetic! He also works at the local coffee shop and bakes for them. The football coach has caught his eye and he’s determined to do everything he can to get him to notice him! He bakes him treats and decorated his office but he’s still not getting anywhere! He gets the chance to stay at a cabin for the holidays and guess who turns out to be his moody neighbour!!

Coach is in his mid forty’s and divorced from his wife, he sees his life as over but also don’t want to be single. His very annoying co worker just won’t let up on the baked goods and his vibrant energy, he can feel in his gut that there’s something there but he’s not sure what it is, so he decides to go spend Christmas doing up his cabin to get away from everyone and just enjoy the peace! Yeah that’s not gonna happen when he goes to help his neighbour who turns out to be the very person he’s running from!!

I love the grumpy sunshine of this book, they both have pasts and secrets and both just want to be loved.

This book is one bed, opposites attract, low angst, Demisexual, bi awakening, GFY, cheerleader/coach and a twink in pink!!!

Thank you to GRR for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you're looking for something low-angst with lots of feel good Christmas cheer, this is definitely the book to pick-up! I've been cycling through a lot of the 2022 Christmas romance novels & novellas and this was such a delight to read. While I felt that it was a little long, and did get draggy in some spots, I was in the mood for an insta-love romance and this did not disappoint.

Bubble's personality was so upbeat and bright. There were a few one liners that had me cringing, but overall, I really enjoyed him and Coach's relationship. And any book that has an older demisexual character also gets an immediate read and download from me. Because we seriously don't get that a lot and we need as much representation as possible!

This was a cute, low-angst, sweet book about a grumpy football Coach and a very "bubbly" cheerleading coach. Bubble has a big crush on the 20 year older, straight Coach. The recently divorced Coach has some feelings toward Bubble he can't understand. Circumstances have them alone in a cabin over the holidays and they connect. This had a lot of really sweet moments, and a lot of great sexy times, but it just didn't come together for me overall. Bubble was just a bit OTT for me and Coach came around so quickly once they kissed it gave me a bit of whiplash. It did have some great family feels and a nice HEA. So while it didn't work overall for me I think a lot of readers will really enjoy it!

Underwhelming (sadly).

The writing style and plot were bland, the characters one dimensional, Riley's "awakening" quite unrealistic. The explanation of his marriage's big lie (at the end of the story) was anticlimactic and felt strange.
The couples' inteactions with their neighbors and Riley's parents were cringey.

I had hoped for a sweet MM holiday romance, and there were sweet parts in the story, but the book as a whole was very disappointing to me.

2,5 stars.
